A man is behind bars for threatening Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator on Facebook. Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Cindy Chadwick says 25-year-old Michael Evans made a disturbing post on July 20.

Chadwick says Evans was charged with terrorizing. She says he was picked up during a traffic stop in Sacramento, California, on a warrant issued by Judge John Mosely.

Chadwick says threatening someone is always illegal, but police have to be extra cautious in light of the recent attacks on police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge. She says the extradition process will begin to bring Evans back to Caddo parish.

The owner of a Mandeville snowball stand has been arrested for inappropriate sexual behavior with some of his juvenile employees. Captain Gerald Sticker with the Mandeville Police Department says the owner of Shiver Shack, 56-year-old Anthony Fortune, was receiving sexual favors and in exchange he would pay his victims cash and supply them with illegal narcotics.

Sticker says currently, there are four victims but advises anyone with any additional information to come forward. He says Fortune conducted indecent behavior with his juvenile employees for about two months…

Fortune faces numerous charges including possession of a schedule I narcotic, carnal knowledge of a juvenile, and child trafficking for sexual purposes. Sticker says this is a very disturbing case because it’s a business that hires kids and caters to kids.

A tearful goodbye was given today to the first of three law enforcement officers killed on Sunday’s police ambush. Thousands attended the funeral service of Baton Rouge Police Officer Matthew Gerald. Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden was one of the speakers and said it’s time for the community to come together. He says we need to put aside our differences and start to understand respect.

Baton Rouge Police Chief Carl Dabadie got emotional when describing his worst fear coming true and remembering his fallen officer. He says Gerald served his country with honor and is proud of the man everyone gathered to mourn. Dabadie says Gerald fought a good fight and finished his course.

Director of Training at the Baton Rouge Police Department Lt. J.D. Leach says even though Officer Gerald had only been on the force a few months, he set an example for the younger members training to become a police officer. He says Matt had a simple answer when asked why he became an officer.

Former state legislator and ex-Klansman David Duke has entered the race for the open Senate seat in Louisiana. He says he will run on the same campaign principles he has for decades and standing up for the rights of European Americans.

There are 23 individuals who have signed up at the Secretary of State’s office to run the US Senate seat being vacated by David Vitter. One of the men running is former KKK leader and state representative David Duke. Duke says he’s running to represent the interest of white European Americans, which he claims are being overlooked. The Louisiana Republican Party says they will play an active role in opposing Duke’s candidacy.

Former KKK leader David Duke has filed the necessary paperwork so his name will appear on the ballot for US Senate in the November election. Duke is a registered republican, but the Louisiana Republican Party released a statement that says they’ll play an active role in opposing Duke’s candidacy. GOP Chairman Roger Villere says Duke is a hate-filled fraud.

Meanwhile at Healing Place Church, a tearful good-bye for Baton Rouge police officer Matthew Gerald, one of three police officers gunned down in last Sunday’s ambush. A family friend of Gerald’s told the large gathering of mourners that one of his favorite movies was Lonesome Dove and quoted the famous line from that movie…

The NBA is looking for a new host for the 2017 All-Star game and New Orleans is in the running. The league decided to look for a new site for the All-Star game because of a controversial law signed by the governor that does not protect LGBT people from workplace and other public discrimination.

Governor John Bel Edwards released a statement says Louisiana would be proud to host the 2017 NBA All-Star game if the oppportunity presents itself. New Orleans has hosted the All-Star game on two previous occassions in 2008 and 2014.

There’s sad news to report out of the NFL. Former Head Coach Dennis Green has passed away. Green led the Vikings to 8 playoff appearances and his 1998 Vikings team went 15-and-1. He was the fifth winningest coach in the 1990s. Green reportedly died from cardiac arrest. He was 67 years old.

The media covering Conference USA believes Louisiana Tech will finish second in the West Division this season, behind Southern Miss. The Bulldogs are 13-and-3 in the league the last two seasons and have seven players that were named to the Conference USA preseason all-conference team. Southern Miss is led by quarterback Nick Mullens, who threw for 44-hundred yards and 38 touchdowns last season. Both were school records. Middle Tennessee is the preseason favorite in the East. The Blue Raiders were six and two last season.

A large crowd has gathered at the funeral for Baton Rouge police officer Matthew Gerald. He was one of three law enforcement officers gunned down in last Sunday’s attack by a lone gunman. Funeral services for the other two law enforcement officers will take place tomorrow and Monday.

The Caddo parish Sheriff’s announces the arrest of an 81-year-old man who allegedly raped a six-year-old girl. Authorities say James Edward Dickens had sexual contact with the juvenile victim on several occasions at his home. Dickens has been charged with first-degree rape.

State Police say they’ve made an arrest in the fatal hit and run of a skateboarder near the Southeastern Louisiana campus back in May. Two vehicles hit the victim and Trooper Dustin Dwight says they are still looking for the first vehicle that hit Erin Gerhard on May 11th.

A year ago Saturday is the one-year anniversary of the fatal shootings at a Lafayette movie theater. Two people died and nine others were injured when a gunman opened fire inside the Grand 16 theater. Joey Durel was the mayor of Lafayette at the time and says he remains impressed by the outpouring of support from Louisianians…

There was a huge send-off today for Deputy Bruce Simmons who was wounded in the ambush. He was released from a Baton Rouge hospital after undergoing at least two surgeries.

Verbal jabs are already flying in the race for the 2nd Congressional district, which stretches from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. Democratic incumbent Cedric Richmond criticized Holden for being absent during what has been a difficult two weeks for the city of Baton Rouge. But Holden says he’s been active behind the scenes…

The NBA has moved the 2017 All- Star game from Charlotte, North Carolina and New Orleans has reportedly emerged as a favorite to host the game in February. The league is unhappy the North Carolina legislature passed a law that’s considered anti-L-G-B-T. The NBA says they will announce a new location for the 2017 All-Star game in the coming weeks.

The Pelicans finally announced their free agent signings today. Solomon Hill, E’Twaun Moore and Langston Galloway are the players added to the roster.

The media has picked Louisiana Tech to finish second in Conference USA’s West division. Southern Miss is the preseason favorite to win the West, followed by Tech, Rice and UTEP. Middle Tennessee is the media’s favorite in the East.

Appalachian State has been picked to win the Sun Belt, based on a vote of the league’s coaches. UL Lafayette is expected to finish in fifth place, ULM in last.

LHSAA President Vic Bonnaffee says Monday’s special meeting of the association’s executive committee is a chance for executive director Eddie Bonine to explain the controversial statement he made at the NFHS convention, where he referred to high school sports in Louisiana as a proverbial dumpster fire, because of the public-private school split playoff format. There’s been reports the executive committee may seek to buy out the remaining years of Bonine’s contract, but Bonnaffee says he’s not sure if a motion can be made at the meeting to buyout Bonine’s contract…

There is good news when it comes to one of the officers that was injured in Sunday’s attack. Deputy Bruce Simmons was released from a Baton Rouge hospital today. Video shows the hospital staff and fellow deputies giving Simmons an emotional send-off as he returns home to continue his recovery.

Democratic Baton Rouge Mayor Kip Holden says he’s running for Congress in the 2nd district because he’s unhappy with the performance of Democratic incumbent Cedric Richmond. The district runs from New Orleans to Baton Rouge. Richmond says Baton Rouge needs its mayor tending to the business of the city, not running for Congress…

Verbal jabs have been thrown in the 2nd Congressional District race that features two Democrats, US Representative Cedric Richmond and challenger Kip Holden. Holden has served as the mayor of Baton Rouge since 2005 and is term-limited. Holden is criticizing Richmond for not taking part in the discussions and recovery in the Capital City following both the Alton Sterling shooting and the ambush on police.

The 2nd Congressional district covers New Orleans, parts of the River Parishes and a portion of Baton Rouge. But Richmond says Holden is the one who has been missing in action.

Very hot temperatures are expected this week, so the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is urging everyone to take caution. GOHSEP Director Jim Waskom says it’s very important to drink lots of water and take frequent breaks in the shade…

Waskom says we’re expected to see temperatures reach the high 90s and even into the 100s. He says it’s important to monitor friends and loved ones who are homebound during this extreme heat.

A state record was set at the Secretary of State’s office during the first day of qualifying, as 52 people entered one of the federal races. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says open seats for high office always draw large fields. But he says it could be voter frustration as well that’s embodied by the Trump movement.

Dubos says it’s rare to have an open senate seat and two open Congressional seats in Louisiana. Qualifying ends Friday, and Dubos says we could see even more people join the race between now and then.
