Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail yesterday and then released on a 151-thousand-dollar bond. He faces charges for his alleged role in a fatal head-on crash that happened last month on Louisiana Highway 20.

The Pelicans nearly pulled off the upset last night in Boston but lost to the Celtics 120 to 119.

The LSU Tigers are off to an 0-and-3 start in SEC play after losing at Ole Miss on Saturday. The Bayou Bengals will try again tomorrow night when they host Arkansas. The undefeated Lady Tigers host Vanderbilt tonight.

Flu activity remains high in Louisiana. Dr. Eric Griggs with the St. Tammany Health System says so are hospitalizations.

Dr. Griggs says only about 42-percent of Louisianians are vaccinated against the three viruses. He says even though we’re now in the peak season, it is by no means too late to get your shots.

Duhon says don’t focus on cutting out certain foods from your diet – instead, maintain a proper balance of the types of foods you eat.

And Duhon says after enjoying that balanced meal, instead of making a beeline to the couch, get up and take a short walk.

St. Tammany Parish is one step closer to securing almost six-billion dollars for its flood risk management project. The project was authorized under the 2024 Water Resources Development Act. Parish President Mike Cooper says this is the largest single investment in flood risk reduction in Louisiana history.

Residents with property insurance are getting a small break. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says the 1.36-percent assessment on all residential and commercial property insurance policies will disappear in April. The assessment has been paying off bonds Louisiana Citizens Insurance incurred from claims after hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Temple says the Citizens Board determined they have enough money to pay off the loans…

Temple says this will result in a 100-dollar savings for residential property insurance policies and 200-dollars for commercial policyholders.

Citizens’ Policyholders are also getting a break. A new law that went into effect January first waves the 10-percent surcharge on all new policies and renewals for the next three years, which means lower premiums for Citizen policyholders…

There are 115-thousand Citizens policyholders, down from 140-thousand after the hurricanes of 2020 and 2021.

Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is facing charges of negligent homicide and hit and run after authorities say his reckless driving on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish caused a head-on collision that killed a 78 year old man. L-S-P says the wreck happened on December 17th and Lacy kept driving, failing to stop and render aid or call authorities. Lacy’s agent says Kyren is fully participating in the investigation and they strongly believe the facts will demonstrate the truth. Lacy led the Tigers in touchdown catches this past season and was expected to be a mid-round selection in this year’s NFL draft.

Louisiana Tech defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson is reportedly leaving the Bulldogs for Coastal Carolina. Johnson turned around the Bulldogs defense this past season and they were ranked number one in Conference USA in total defense.

Ohio State doubled up Texas last night 28 to 14 and the Buckeyes will play Notre Dame in the title game on January 20th.

Pelicans star Zion Williamson was suspended for last night’s game in Philadelphia for a violation of team policies. It’s reported Williamson was late for the team’s flight to Philadelphia. Coach Willie Green said before the game several incidents led up to the suspension. New Orleans went on to win without Williamson, beating the 76ers 123 to 115. Another big scoring night for C-J McCollum as he had 38 points.

In college hoops…LSU looks for its first SEC win as the Tigers take on 23rd ranked Ole Miss at 5 PM. LSU has been plagued by slow starts and turnovers in two SEC losses.

A former LSU football star is in trouble with the law.  Louisiana State Police announced on Friday afternoon an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Kyren Lacy, who caught nine touchdown passes for the Tigers in 2024. Troopers say back on December 17th, Lacy recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish. Investigators say Lacy’s actions resulted in a head-on crash, which resulted in the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux. Lacy has been charged with negligent homicide and hit and run for not stopping after the crash he caused.

The Saints announced they interviewed Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn today. Glenn is very familiar with the Black and Gold. The former cornerback played for the Saints in 2008 and he was the Saints defensive backs coach from 2016 and 2020.

Saints special teams ace J-T Gray has been voted to the Associated Press All-Pro team. The Mississippi native led the NFL with 26 special teams tackles, which is a new career-high.

The NFL playoffs begin this weekend. It starts with the Houston Texans taking on the Los Angeles Chargers. Former LSU star and Texans cornerback Derek Stingley Junior has been named AP First Team All Pro.

On Sunday afternoon, Sean Payton leads the Broncos into their playoff matchup with the Bills. Sunday night, it’s Jayden Daniels and the Commanders visiting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Candida Rebello, the director of the nutrition and chronic disease program at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center, says when choosing foods, look for foods that are low in energy density – those are foods that have high dietary fiber content and high-water content…

To increase your fiber intake, try to cover at least half of your plate with fruits and vegetables.

Rebello says people tend to eat based on the size of the portion and not by the calorie content. So for the same 100 calories, you can eat a large portion of some foods or a tiny portion of others.

Rebello says when choosing grains, whole grain bread is high in dietary fiber.

It’s king cake season; and for the first time in its 104-year history, Hubig’s Pies is selling king cakes. The owner of the New Orleans staple, Andrew Ramsey, says they have four flavors: traditional cinnamon, Hubig’s custard, Dutch apple, and cream cheese.

Ramsey says the store-sold cakes measure 10 by 10 inches, while online orders will be slightly larger.

The New Orleans Police Department has identified the officers who fatally shot the Houston man who carried out the New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street. NOPD Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick says body camera footage shows officers approaching Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s pickup truck after it crashed into construction equipment in the 300-block of Bourbon Street

Kirkpatrick says officers Nigel Daggs, Christian Byer and Jacobie Jordan are heroes. Daggs is a 21-year veteran and Byer and Jordan have been on the force for nearly two years. She says they are being recognized for their bravery….

Kirkpatrick says two officers that were shot by Jabbar in the gun fight have been treated and released .

NOPD released the name of the officers involved in the shooting of Jabbar in conjunction with the release of the body camera video. She says the three officers who returned fire were placed on administrative reassignment as part of department policy, but they have been cleared to return to regular duty…

Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge is the sixth entity in Louisiana to distribute the Newborn Essential Support Toolkit. Through a partnership between the Department of Health and Human Services and the non-profit organization Baby2Baby, the kits include things like diapers, wipes, skin cream, clothes and other essentials. Congresswoman Julia Letlow, who helped Woman’s unveil the kits, says it gives new parents peace of mind.

Letlow says these kits allow new parents to get off to a good start with their newborn.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office says three people were stabbed to death, two of the victims are children, in a domestic disturbance incident that took place in Amite. Sheriff Clay Chutz says 31-year-old Ryant Jones has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Chutz calls it a horrible tragedy. The victims’ ages are 40, ten, and one years old.

Gilbert had 22 points, while Aneesah Morrow had 23 points and 21 rebounds as LSU improved to 18-and-0 on the season.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball jumped out to a 25 to four lead and went on to beat FIU 81 to 64 to improve to 1-and-2 in Conference USA Play. Al Green hit five three-pointers in the first 13 minutes and finished with a season-high 21 points.

In the Sun Belt, the Ragin Cajuns and ULM both lost.

Sean Payton has the Denver Broncos in the playoffs in his second season in Denver. The Broncos will visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. Payton was nine and eight in the postseason as the head coach of the Saints and he had Drew Brees as his quarterback. Rookie Bo Nix is the starting quarterback for the Broncos, and Payton expects the former Auburn and Oregon star to do just fine…

Southeastern Louisiana University is once again collecting discarded Christmas trees to enhance local wetlands. Turtle Cove Environmental Research Station Manager Rob Moreau says this initiative marks its 30th year.

Instead of going into landfills, the discarded trees are used to combat erosion and create wildlife habitats in the Manchac (MAN-shack) Swamp Wetlands.

Seven victims of the attack on Bourbon Street have filed a lawsuit against the city and two of its contractors, alleging they failed to protect the street from what happened on New Year’s Day morning, an assailant driving down the street at a high rate of speed. Loyola University Law professor Dane Ciolino says a lawsuit targeting private contractors instead of the police department could be successful….

The suit takes aim at one of the contractors Mott MacDonald, alleging the firm was warned Bourbon Street was vulnerable to a vehicle attack. Ciolino adds it may take years for this suit to be resolved.

Former New York Police Commissioner Bill Bratton met with the media yesterday. He’s the consultant brought in to help New Orleans Police with its security plan for the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras…

Governor Jeff Landry has named Scott Ballard as the new president of the LSU Board of Supervisors. Ballard is a co-owner of P-J’s Coffee and according to the Advocate newspaper helped raise substantial amounts of money for Landry’s gubernatorial campaign. Ballard is not an LSU grad and this is his second stint on the LSU Board of Supervisors.

The oldest institute of higher education in Louisiana is celebrating a milestone this year. Andrew Greenstein reports.
