Republicans in the U-S House say their tax plan will jump start the U-S economy by simpilifying the tax code and lower tax rates on individuals and businesses. The national small business lobbying group has already come out and said the tax reform plan will not help them.

A Sweet 16 party turned deadly in Kenner this weekend when authorities say 17-year-old Renee Holloway fatally shot 18-year-old Jontrell Wells after arguing about an ongoing neighborhood rivalry. Holloway is charged with second-degree murder.

The sun will likely be either going down or it will be dark for your ride home today, because we turned the clocks back one hour this week. State Farm spokesperson Kipp Diggs says also be on the look out for deer crossing the road in rural areas…

So what do CPAs say the GOP tax plan will do for us and our pocketbooks?  Among the changes, the plan eliminates the ability to deduct state income tax, which is between two and six percent in Louisiana.  Brandon Legarde with the Society of Louisiana CPA’s says that one change impacts everyone…

One of the reasons the GOP is happy with tax reform is the change afforded to businesses in trying to urge corporations to come back to the U.S.  Legarde says his office is still trying to determine how all the tax breaks will benefit businesses and if they will be able to get around some of the new laws…

Legarde says even with the promise of being able to file your taxes on a postcard, the simplicity of the tax code remains to be seen, keeping accountants on their toes…

Especially now that it’s getting darker earlier, State Farm wants to remind people to watch out for deer while driving. Louisiana ranks 41st in the country for the most deer collisions. State Farm Spokesperson Kip Diggs says it’s now mating season deer and they’re on the move. He says dusk to dawn are the highest risk times to see deer out on the roadways.

New data from State Farm finds the odds Louisiana drivers will hit a deer is down at 1 in 332, lower than the national average of 1 in 162. Diggs says if you feel a collision with a deer is inevitable, do not swerve away from the deer. He says vehicles are designed to take an impact like this.

Diggs says it’s important to drive with your high beams on as frequently as possible because the earlier you see a deer, the more time you have to avoid a crash. He reminds motorists that they also travel in packs.

This trip is a marketing and communications effort in part of the Louisiana Culinary Campaign. Nungesser hopes to link bloggers and writers with Louisiana chefs to show our unique heritage and food. He says many people with the Office of Tourism are along for the ride.

For the first time since 2005, two state police cadet classes will run simultaneously.  Aspiring troopers have reported for the 97th cadet class with 49 individuals.  The 96th class has entered their 11th week of training.  Sgt. Jared Sandifer says both classes are going through an intense training program…

Sandifer says people across the state should be happy that many are still willing to join the ranks and help serve them…

The Saints won their sixth straight on Sunday as they dominated Tampa Bay 30-10. A blocked punt that went for a touchdown in the 1st quarter gave New Orleans a 9-0 lead and they never looked back. Rookie Alvin Kamara has a touchdown rushing and receiving and Ted Ginn Junior caught a 36-yard touchdown pass from Drew Brees. The Saints Q-B says they did a lot of things well…

A strange play occurred when TommyLee Lewis laid down in the end zone during a kickoff in the hopes the Buccaneers kick-off team would not see him. The play didn’t work at all and New Orleans was forced to start a drive deep in their zone. Payton says they’ll probably not try that again…

A United States Navy veteran has declined to accept the Peoples Health Champion Award during this Sunday’s Saints game in the Superdome. Commander John Wells says he was very honored and excited when he was named a recipient. But he says the anthem protests by NFL players are a slap in the face to veterans…:

He’s fine with protesting injustice, but doesn’t agree with disrespecting the flag that gives us the right to have that conversation. The Saints say they respect Commander Well’s decision to decline the award and it’s unfortunate and disappointing he’s no longer a fan of the NFL.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office announces the arrest of a private school teacher who allegedly bit a two-year-old in the face. Investigators say 28-year-old Heather Marcotte admitting to biting the little boy, when she became frustrated with his behavior at Northlake Christian School.

GOP leaders on Capitol Hill unveiled today the key details in a new tax plan. The proposal lowers the number of tax brackets from seven to four, and increases the standard deductions. Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins says this is major reform which is pro citizen and pro economic growth…:

The plan would also increase the national debt and Democrats it’s a tax break for the rich at the expense of the middle class.

A Morning Consult poll has Governor Edwards approval rating at 52-percent. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says that’s a solid number for Democratic governor in a red state, but Edwards faces some big challenges in the coming months…

Saints Cornerback Marshon Lattimore has been named NFL Defensive Rookie fo the Month. The first round pick out of Ohio State intercepted his first two passes of his NFL career during the month of October. New Orleans begins the month of November by hosting Tampa Bay this Sunday. The Bucs are struggling with a 2-and-5 record.

Former LSU Tigers Alex Bregman and Will Harris are World Series champions as they helped Houston win its first title in franchise history. Bregman played a big role in beating the Los Angeles Dodgers as he had seven hits, two home runs and five runs driven in during the World Series. He also made several nice defensive plays in the field and the glove that he wore during the World Series has been sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

KPEL News has released information concerning some of the allegations made against former UL Lafayette softball coach Michael Lotief. In one complaint dated on August 2nd of this year, a player said Lotief made her cry and then mimicked her and made fun of her nervous nonverbal habits. Another complaint said that Lotief once cursed out the visiting grounds crew and the player says the coach’s tactics went from physical anger to emotional manipulation. Lotief held a press conference following his termination and denied the allegations made against him.

Lafayette Police say no charges will be filed against a man who fatally shot another man in a Home Depot parking lot on Evangeline Thruway. Authorities say a violent struggle occurred when an owner of a vehicle saw the now deceased male trying to break into his car. Detectives say during that struggle the vehicle owner shot and killed the subject and they are ruling it a justifiable homicide.

He says Edwards has received high marks when it comes to dealing with the high number of natural disasters Louisiana has recently seen.

There are now 14 former LSU Tigers who are World Champions. The latest two are third baseman Alex Bregman and relief pitcher Will Harris, who helped the Astros win their first world series title in franchise history. Houston defeated Los Angeles 5-1 last night in Game 7 of the World Series. Bregman had seven hits, two home runs and five runs driven in during the World Series. Harris tossed two scoreless innings of relief.

The Pelicans had 19 turnovers last night and lost to Minnesota 104 to 98 to fall to 3-and-5 on the season. DeMarcus Cousins led the way for New Orleans with 35 points and nine rebounds and said after the game that they are a team that’s still figuring each other out. The Pels are at Dallas tomorrow night.

There are a couple of big high school football games tonight. Cedar Creek at Oak Grove battle for the District 2-1A championship. Sterlington takes on Richwood. Sterlington has won 18 in a row.
