Two people died after their Ford F-250 work truck slammed into an 18-wheeler this morning in Madison Parish. It happened on US Highway 65 near the Tensas Parish line. The two people inside the work truck were killed, 38-year-old Michael Shayne Butler of Jonesville and 36-year-old Richard Hudnall of Jena.

The head of Louisiana’s Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control says they’ve suspended the liquor licenses for eight French Quarter strip clubs, because they found evidence of prostitution, drug sales and lewd acts. New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison says the investigation’s target was not prostitutes, but human traffickers. He says no one has been charged with human trafficking, but the investigation continues…

The Slidell Police Department arrests two Gulfport men for allegedly trying to sell fake flat-screen televisions. Southeastern Lousiaina will reportedly introduce its new head football coach tomorrow. Football Scoop-dot-com reports it will be Frank Scelfo, who is a ULM grad and has previously been an offensive coordinator at Tulane and Louisiana Tech.

The Pelicans blew a 21-point first half lead and lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 112 to 103 in the team’s first game since the season-ending injury to DeMarcus Cousins. The loss dropped New Orleans into a sixth place tie with Portland in the Western Conference standings. New Orleans hosts Sacramento tomorrow night.

In college basketball, after getting thumped by Auburn 95-70 last Saturday, LSU faces another ranked opponent on Wednesday night. The Tigers visit 18th ranked Tennessee for a 5:30 tip.

The Ragin Cajuns are 19-3, but they are not getting any votes for the Top 25. UL Lafayette begins a three-game road trip on Saturday when they visit ULM.

In the Southland, UNO leads with an 8-2 record, a half-a-game better than Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls State. The Privateers host Northwestern State on Wednesday and then Nicholls makes a trip to Lakefront Arena on Saturday.

Officials are cutting the ribbon today on the new LSU Center for River Studies, which has a massive, interactive model of the bottom 179 miles of the Mississippi River. The project is the result of a collaboration between LSU and the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Director Clint Willson says it gives coastal scientists a powerful tool in the fight against coastal erosion.

The model is roughly the size of a Boeing 747, and can simulate one year of river flow in one hour.

Willson says the model will be a great way to get the next generation interested in protecting the bayou.

Willson says the exhibit will provide a fantastic area for policy makers and activists to network over coastal issues. He says the front line workers in particular will enjoy the space.

Several strip clubs on Bourbon Street have had their alcohol licenses pulled by the ATC after investigators say they found multiple instances of prostitution, lewd acts and, in some cases, illegal drug activity. NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison says they have a strong commitment to keeping the city free of criminal activity…:

Harrison says each business has been told in writing, what offenses lead to their suspension — in many cases narcotics, but in every case prostitution. He says they had been getting complaints from citizens and from other businesses that this type of activity could have been taking place…:

Three hunters from West Feliciana Parish lost their lives in the Buffalo River area in Wilkinson County, Mississippi after their pontoon boat capsized.  Two adults and a child were among the bodies recovered from the chilly water Sunday afternoon.  Woodville Police Chief Jessie Stewart says authorities from several different agencies responded to the scene after hearing from a survivor of the accident…

Officials believe the hunters were using the pontoon boat as a duck blind, it capsized after they stepped on it and the victims were trapped underneath. Stewart says the river’s cold temperatures didn’t help their chances of survival…

Those fighting to save Louisiana’s coast are applauding the commitment made by the Trump administration to speed up the permitting process of the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diverson project. Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana spokesperson Jimmy Frederick says the 1.3 billion dollar project will rebuild the wetlands by returning sediment, fresh water, and nutrients from the Mississippi River to build and maintain land in Louisiana’s Barataria Basin…

Three hunters…two adults and a child…from West Feliciana Parish are dead after the pontoon boat they were on capsized near the Buffalo River area in Wilkinson County. We are a waiting on a decision from the jury who heard the Ronald Gasser trial. Gasser fatally shot former NFL player Joe McKnight in a road rage incident in Jefferson Parish and faces a second-degree murder charge, which carries a life sentence. Gasser did not take the stand during the six days of testimony. But Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the jury still heard from Gasser on what happened as there were seven hours of taped interviews that were played during the trial….

The Pelicans, who are playing their best basketball of the season, face a tough test tonight as they host the Houston Rockets, who are 34-and-12 on the year. New Orleans has won six of its last seven and they are in sixth place in the Western Conference.

The select…non-select playoffs will continue in the sports of basketball, baseball and softball. High School principals voted to keep the current format in place. The most notable change that came out of the LHSAA convention is that girls and boys state select basketball championships will be held one week and then the following week the girls and boys non-select schools will have their semifinals finals. That will begin with the 2018-19 season.

High school football recruiting…West Feliciana three-star defensive back Derek Turner has committed to Louisiana Tech. And Rummel wide receiver JaMarr Chase says he’ll decide between Auburn and LSU on national signing day.

College baseball teams can begin practice today. LSU Coach Paul Mainieri says his weekend rotation as of now is Caleb Gilbert on Friday night. Zack Hess on Saturday and Todd Peterson on Sunday.

The LSU men’s basketball team visits 19th ranked Auburn on Saturday. Auburn is 18-2 on the year and playing with a lot of confidence according to Tigers Coach Will Wade.

Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana will battle for first place in the Southland Conference on Saturday night at Stopher Gym in Thibodaux. The Colonels have won five in a row, 7-1 in league play, while the Lions are 6-2. Nicholls head coach Richie Riley says S-L-U is a big test for his team…

A federal judge in Shreveport ruled against the United Daughters of the Confederacy today. They are trying to stop the removal of a Confederate monument that’s been standing since 1906. The Caddo Parish Commission voted to have the monument removed. The U-D-C claims they own the land where the statue stands, but the judge says the group did not prove that it does.

Pro-life advocates will march in Shreveport-Bossier City tomorrow as it is the annual Louisiana Life March North. Organizer Louis Avallone says they will start from the Louisiana Boardwalk, cross the Texas Street Bridge and finish at Festival Plaza in Shreveport….

It’s been a year of repairs, replacement and testing for the St. Joseph water system, but it appears it is about ready for public use again.  A public health emergency was declared in late 2016 forbidding use of the water after high amounts of lead was discovered.  State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says there has been a complete overhaul since then…

The water was contaminated with lead and was muddy and brown.  Guidry says they are in the final stages of testing and officials are pleased with the results…

The system for St. Joseph cost nine-point-five-million-dollars, paid by state taxpayer money.  Guidry says there are many aging water systems in Louisiana needing repair, but the state can’t afford to bail every small town out…
