Former LSU and pro Hall of Fame quarterback, Y.A. Tittle, passed away Sunday night at the age of 90, the school confirmed today. Tittle was a two-time All SEC quarterback when he played for LSU. He enjoyed his greatest team success by leading the Giants to three straight Eastern Conference titles, passing for 86 touchdowns between 1961 and 1963.

The Saints rested yesterday while their next opponent, the Detroit Lions, lost a physical game to the Carolina Panthers 27-24. Lions QB Matthew Stafford got beat up in this one and finished with a cut on his left hand and tape arounnd his feet and ankles. Stafford has been sacked six teams in each of his last two games.

Former LSU Tiger Odell Beckham is done for the season after breaking his ankle in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The Giants are also done for the season as they are 0-5 on the season.

Another former Tiger, Leonard Fournette rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns as Jacksonville defeated a struggling Steelers team 31-9. Jacksonsville and Houston are tied for first in the NFC South, but the Texans are without star JJ Watt for the rest of the season, who suffered a leg fracture.

This past weekend, Grambling State beat Prairie View A-and-M for a fourth consecutive season, winning the contest 34-21. Grambling is ranked 19th in the latest FCS Coaches Poll. McNeese State is ranked 21st and Nicholls is ranked 23rd.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise of Metairie told Chuck Todd of NBC’s Meet the Press that he opposes new gun control legislation. Scalise was seriously wounded last June when a gunman opened fire on group of lawmakers getting ready for a charity baseball game. Scalise says there are already limits on gun ownership and believes those laws need to be enforced.

Now that Hurricane Nate is a memory for Louisiana, what will that mean for gas prices?  Oil rigs from Louisiana to Alabama were shut down and the industry hasn’t fully recovered from Hurricane Harvey in August.  Don Redman from Triple-A says any increase in prices we see will be short lived…

Refineries are also gearing up to switch from the summer blend to winter grade gasoline, which Redman says could affect prices…

Regardless of the storm, Redman says drivers are paying more on average than the last couple of years…

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement’s New Orleans office estimated less than 15 percent of the oil production in the Gulf of Mexico was shutdown before Tropical Storm Nate, providing over 254-thousand barrels of oil per day.

Former Governor Buddy Roemer has released a memoir, published by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Press, of his early life in north Louisiana called, Scopena: A Memoir of Home. In the book, Roemer shares with his readers what is was like to grow up on his family’s cotton plantation in Bossier Parish. He says the story is really about his father and mother, Budgie and Adeline Roemer.

Roemer suffered from a stroke in 2014. The former governor says he faced many social changes growing up during the 1950s and 60s. He says his father gave he and his siblings great guidance during the Civil Rights Movement.

After suffering the program’s first loss against a team from the Sun Belt Conference, the LSU Tigers bounced back with a 17-16 win victory over Florida in the Swamp. Hurricane Nate remains a Category One Hurricane affecting residents in Southeast Louisiana.  Forecasters feel it will make landfall later tonight possibly as far east as Mississippi. The National Hurricane Center’s David Zelinsky says a slight direction change could make all the difference in the storm surge…

Alek Krautman with the National Weather Service says areas along the Gulf Coast in South Louisiana and west of the Mississippi River should still be prepared for storm surge of up to six feet until the storm passes…

A curfew for New Orleans will go into effect at 7 tonight.  Forecasters feel the storm will be through Louisiana by early Sunday morning…

17:30 Hurricane Nate Update October 7th

Nate still has it’s eyes on Louisiana.  The hurricane has not made it to land yet.  David Zelinsky with the National Hurricane Center says it appears it will arrive somewhere in extreme southeastern Louisiana…

That landfall is expected around 8pm tonight.  Meanwhile, Governor John Bel Edwards will be watching for the aftereffects from Nate due to a possible 7 foot storm surge in New Orleans…

A curfew will be in effect for New Orleans after 7pm.  Shelters are open in St. Charles, St. Tammanay, Tangipahoa and Washington Parishes.

Hurricane Nate continues marching toward the Gulf Coast.  Hurricane and storm surge warnings remain in effect from Grand Isle to the Alabama/Florida Border, including New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain.  David Zelinsky with the National Hurricane Center says inland residents could see blustery conditions…

15:30 Hurricane Nate update October 7th

Hurricane Nate is expected to make landfall tonight around 7 in far southeast Louisiana or far southwest Mississippi as a category 2 hurricane.  At last report, the storm was located about 100 miiles south of the mouth of the Misissippi river moving north-northwest at 25 miles an hour.
There had been concern over possible heavy flooding in the New Orleans area but Governor John Bel Edwards says local authorities should have that under control…

Meanwhile, a hurricane warning remains in effect for the greater New Orleans area, Lake Pontchartrain and from Grand Isle to the Alabama/Florida border.

14:30 LRN Newscast October 7

According to the National Hurricane Center in Miami, as of one o’clock this afternoon Hurricane Nate was located at 27.6 degrees north, 88.9 west, or about 105 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River, moving north-northwest at 25 miles an hour. Maximum sustained winds are 90 miles an hour.  Tropical storm winds are expected to reach the mouth of the Mississippi River around 4 o’clock this afternoon with the eye of the storm reaching  us around 7 as a category two hurricane.
Governor John Bel Edwards says there is still time for Nate to move more toward Louisiana or more toward Mississippi and Alabama…

A hurricane warning remains in effect from Grand Isle to the Alabama/Florida border, for the greater New Orleans area and Lake Pontchartrain.
A tropical  storm warning is still in  effect for Lake Maurepas and west of Grand Isle to Morgan City.
