31-year-old Cody Charpentier of Glencoe and 21-year-old Baily Rogers of Youngsville have been cited for the crime.

It’s National Seersucker Day. Created in Louisiana during the early 1900’s, the seersucker suit has withstood the test of time to be a signature look in the south and an iconic apparel around the country. It has since become a congressional tradition on the first Thursday of June to wear the suit, and now, Laurie Haspel with the company behind the look has expanded the celebration to a national holiday.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s office is investigating a fatal shooting that happened last night in West Monroe. Deputies say the victim was found dead when they arrived on the scene in the one-hundred block of Keller Street. KNOE-TV reports the victim is a teenage girl.

A Shreveport woman is facing felony charges after her three dogs were found dead in her car. Bossier City Police Spokesperson Mark Natale says that 47 year old Nancy Western was at Willis Knighton-Bossier for a doctor’s appointment when she left her two Labrador retrievers and cocker spaniel in the vehicle

ESPN is reporting the Pelicans and Head Coach Alvin Gentry have agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep Gentry in New Orleans through the 2020-21 season. In his third season in the Big Easy, Gentry led the Pels to a 48-34 record this past season and a semifinal appearance in the Western Conference playoffs.

The LSU baseball program was not hurt too bad in the Major League Baseball Draft. The Tigers top hitter this past season, Antoine Duplantis, was drafted in the 19th round and since he was drafted so low, it increases the possibility he’ll return for his senior season. Jake Slaughter and Cam Sanders were both drafted by the Chicago Cubs and it’s expected they will both sign.

Jeff Duncan from the Times-Picayune reports that former Saints offensive tackle Zach Strief has emerged as a strong and viable candidate to succeed Jim Henderson as the Voice of the Saints. Strief has limited broadcasting experience, but served as an analyst on WWL’s coverage of this year’s NFL draft.

Southeastern Louisiana men’s basketball coach Jay Ladner has a new contract that runs through the 2020-21 season. This past season Ladner guided the Lions to a share of the Southland Conference regular season title and a berth in the N-I-T Tournament.

The State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries seeks to get more people outdoors with a free fishing weekend. So Saturday and Sunday residents and visitors can fish Louisiana waters without an otherwise required fishing license. LDWF Spokesperson Rene LeBreton says they hope to attract new anglers…

After failing to raise revenue in the second special session, John Bel Edwards blamed a group of Republicans he called the Caucus of No. Chalmette Representative Ray Garofalo is proud of that title, because that stands for no new taxes…

Kennedy says the bulk of the problems appeared to have occurred under the leadership of Katara Williams, who has since been moved to a position with Southern University.

Three Sears stores are closing in north Louisiana. The retailer has notified workers of their decision to shutdown their stores at Shreveport’s Mall St. Vincent, Pierre Bossier Mall in Bossier City and their location on Millhaven Road in Monroe. Liquidation sales could begin as early as June 22nd.

GOP legislators led the effort in the last special session in blocking a sales tax bill that would have prevented or at least softened proposed cuts to TOPS, higher education, public safety and children and family services. Governor Edwards used his veto pen to take out 40 projects contained in the state’s three-point-six billion dollar construction spending plan. Most of the projects are in parishes represented by Republicans, who have voted against his tax plans.

Senator John Kennedy is asking Governor John Bel Edwards if he plans to recover the nearly 40-million dollars in taxpayer money the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission allegedly misused, according to the legislative auditor. Kennedy says the report found excessive overtime pay, sloppy travel records, and questionable spending practices…

Six LSU Tigers were selected on day three of the major league baseball draft, including Antoine Duplantis, who was picked in the 19th round by the Cleveland Indians. Duplantis has one year of eligibility left and could return for his senior season after he was drafted so low.

Right-handed starting pitcher Zack Hess could also be back as his name wasn’t called until the 34th round by Atlanta. Zach Watson is also likely to return after he was picked in the last round by Boston.

The three others Tigers drafted yesterday may have played their last game at LSU. Cam Sanders and Jake Slaughter were both picked by the Chicago Cubs. Catcher Hunter Feduccia was selected in the 12th round by the Dodgers.

Other notable selections, Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Josh Green was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Seatttle selected McNeese right-hander Grant Anderson in the 21st round and Ragin Cajuns left-hander Colten Schmidt went in the 23rd round to the Colorado Rockies.

A group of anti-tax, pro cut Republicans in the House, named the “Caucus of No” by the governor are standing their ground, defending their move to block any move to renew a portion of a one-penny sales tax that expires June 30th. Jackson Representative Kenny Havard says that group has refused to work with other legislators to find a real, long term solution to the state’s perpetual budget woes.

But Chalmette Representative Ray Garofalo, one of the House members refusing the revenue measures, says the governor can find savings by cutting dollars from a bloated Medicaid program.

Conservatives in the House are punching back again the Governor’s claims that they’re at fault for the legislative gridlock and partisan conflicts that ground down yet another special session. Erath Representative Blake Miguez says after a House tax plan that raised 400 million dollars was rejected, some Republicans may be losing interest in voting for any revenue measure.

Without additional revenue, TOPS would be cut by 30 percent, higher ed would see 96 million in cuts, and state agencies would take an across the board funding reductions.

Governor Edwards has labeled a group of anti-tax, pro budget cut hardliners the “caucus of no” for rejecting compromise tax plans. But Miguez says the votes were there for GOP House Chairman Lance Harris bill which would have raised 300-million dollars….

Miguez says the legislature’s current budget the fully funds healthcare, and has plenty of enough money to adequately fund other state priorities. The Erath Republican says before another special session, the governor needs to sign the budget that’s on his desk to reassure the Medicaid patients who received cancellation notices that their programs will not be cut.
