Lafayette Police say a teenager is dead after a stabbing last night.  Corporal Bridgette Dugas says they found a 17-year-old male victim shortly after arriving at a home and arrested the suspect after obtaining information from him…

Dugas says the investigation is continuing, but they believe an argument between the teen and 32-year-old Lawrence Allen the Second escalated into murder…

The federal tax reform bill slashed taxes for different businesses, and after some review the state believes those tax savings could be passed on to utility customers. Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says the tax reductions will save some utility companies, such as Entergy and Cleco, hundreds of millions of dollars. Campbell says those savings shouldn’t be stashed…

Governor John Bel Edwards praised recent rate reductions in South Carolina due to the new tax savings, and says he hopes to see the same from Louisiana utilities.  Campbell says he’ll make sure Louisiana’s Public Service Commission looks into it…

Campbell anticipates the Public Service Commission will determine rate payers are due a decrease on their bill, because utility companies are paying lower taxes…

An exact cause of the fire has not been determined, but the state has seen an uptick in fires because of the cold weather.

A teenager was found with multiple stab wounds inside a Lafayette home and later died from his wounds. A 32-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter. As expected, edge rusher Arden Key will not return for his senior season. He’s declared for the NFL draft and despite injury troubles this past year, he’s expected to be a first round pick.

The LSU men’s basketball team battled last night, but came up short in an upset bid of 17th ranked Kentucky. The Wildcats responded well in the second half to a five-point halftime deficit to beat the Bayou Bengals 74-71. Duop Reath had 24 points and 11 rebounds in a losing effort.

The Saints continue preparations today for their NFC Playoff match-up with the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Second-year safety Von Bell is looking forward to his first playoff game…

An early flu season continues to be a big problem in Louisiana. Doctor Frank Welch with the state health department says one out of every ten doctor visits result in a flu diagnosis. Welch says avoid close contact with people who are sick and it’s easy to know when a flu victim is no longer a threat to pass it to someone else….

The statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.27 that’s up nearly a nickel from a week ago and it’s the highest new year gas prices since 2014. But AAA fuel analyst Don Redman believes the price at the pump will drop at least 10-cents soon. He says demand is on the decline, because of the cold and snowy conditions across the country….

Louisiana is one of 36 states reporting widespread flu activity. Doctor Frank Welch, with the Louisiana Department of Health, says there are four influenza strains making the rounds, but there is one that is particulary troublesome…

Welch says it’s still not too late to get a flu shot. He says if you still get the flu, the vaccine can lessen the length of your illness.

LSU and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda have reportedly agreed to a new four-year contract that will pay him on average 2.5 million dollars a year. LSU was forced to raise Aranda’s salary, which was already the biggest in college football for an assistant, because Texas A-and-M came after him with an agressive offer. Also, LSU edge rusher Arden Key has declared for the NFL draft. He’s a likely first round pick.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has been celebrating record breaking tourism numbers over the last couple of years, but he says that could change due to potential state budget cuts and growing crime probems in the state’s top tourist destination spot, New Orleans. Nungesser says Louisiana’s litter problem also does not help and there are some things residents can do…

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is worried a possible budget shortfall will hurt the state’s tourism industry. Kelley Ray has more on his concerns.

Money shouldn’t be a problem for LSU Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda. He’s reportedly set to sign a new four-year contract that will pay him around 2.5 million dollars a year. Aranda is already the highest paid defensive coordinator in the country, but LSU had to up his salary to keep him, after receiving a strong offer from Texas A-and-M.

The news not as good for the LSU men’s basketball team, who battled 17th ranked Kentucky in front of an excited Maravich Center crowd, but still lost to the Wildcats 74-71 in the SEC opener for the Tigers. LSU is at 11th ranked Texas A-and-M on Saturday.

U-N-O improved to 3-0 in the Southland, with a 72-62 win over Lamar, but Northwestern, Nicholls and McNeese all lost. Grambling fell to Alabama State.

As Louisiana tourism enters 2018, there are some glaring concerns as to how to encourage more visitors to come to the Bayou State.  Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser says the state’s tourism budget is facing a ten percent cut if legislators are unable to resolve the fiscal cliff issues.  Plus Nungesser is worried about some of the chronic problems that’s impacting the state’s biggest tourism draw, New Orleans…

Nungesser says the Lt. Governor’s office has seen massive cuts the last several years and is afraid further cuts will reduce the ability to keep the state park system operating…

Nungesser says he’s also concerned about the state’s littering and the image that is projected to potential visitors.  He says Louisiana residents can do some small things that will make a big impact…

The national price at the pump is at its highest in nearly five years after the busiest holiday travel season on record. The average here in Louisiana is 2.26 a gallon for regular gas, up nearly four cents over last week, but AAA spokesperson Don Redman says he doesn’t expect the price to hold…

Redman says he believes gas will come down at least ten cents in the next month…

The polar vortex is grinding travel to a halt across the country, shutting down portions of highways across the southeast. Redman says the cold weather will help bring prices down…

Multiple media reports say Texas A-and-M is making a strong push to hire LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda.There was a report on Monday that said Aranda declined the Aggies original offer, but now sources indicate A-and-M is offering even more money and would give him the freedom to hire his own staff. Aranda is currently the highest paid defensive coordinator in the country making 1.8 million dollars.

There’s reportedly mutual interest between Arizona and former LSU Head Coach Les Miles for the Mad Hatter to become the Wildcats new head football coach. Arizona fired Rich Rodriguez this week over misconduct allegations. Miles has made it known he would like to coach again.

UL-Lafayette has hired ULM wide receivers coach and recruting coordinator Tim Leger. The former McNeese State offensive coordinator will coach the wide receivers for the Ragin Cajuns.

And the SWAC announced today that Duer Sharp is no longer the league’s commissioner. The conference says Sharp left to pursue other opportunities.

The LSU men’s basketball team begins SEC play tonight by hosting 17th ranked Kentucky. Freshman point guard Tremont Waters has led the Tigers to a 9-3 record and tonight he’ll match-up against fellow freshman Quade Green, who won four state championships in high school as a prep star in Philadelphia. Green and Waters have played against each other since the 7th grade and Waters knows his game well…
