LSU nose tackle Greg Gilmore has been added to the roster for the Senior Bowl. Gilmore led the Tigers with 7.5 sacks last season. He joins receiver DJ Chark, running back Darrell Williams and defensive lineman Christian LaCourture who will play in the Senior Bowl on January 27th in Mobile.

There are two all-star games tomorrow. The N-F-L-P-A Collegiate Bowl on F-S-1 at 3 PM. Former Tigers Russell Gage and Frank Heron will play in that game. There’s also the East-West Shrine Game tomorrow. Lousiaina Tech safety Secdrick Cooper and U-L Lafayette’s Tracy Walker will play in that game.

In college basketball last night, the Ragin Cajuns rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat U-T Arlington 77-65. Frank Bartley had 26 ponts as U-L Lafayette is now 6-0 in the Sun Belt. ULM fell to 1-5 in the Sun Belt after losing to Texas State 55-52. And Louisiana Tech defeated North Texas 66-65.

Former LSU Tiger Leonard Fournette will look to lead Jacksonville to its first ever Super Bowl appearance as they face the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game. Fournette scored three touchdowns last Sunday in the upset win over Pittsburgh and knows the Pats defense will focus on him….

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady did not practice yesterday, because of a hand injury. Kick-off is at 2 PM.

ESPN’s Mel Kiper has released his first mock draft and he does have not any LSU Tigers selected in the first round. But there are many who expect Arden Key and Derius Guice will be selected in the first round.

The Pelicans Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins have been selected as starters for next month’s NBA All Star game. It’s the first time the franchise will have two new starters. New Orleans is back home Monday night to host the Memphis Grizzlies.

The freezing grip from the polar vortex is about to loosen in Louisiana.  Forecasters say we have one more night of below freezing temperatures statewide and then a warm front begins to move in which will swing temperatures the other way.  State climatologist Barry Keim says this weekend will feel like paradise after nearly a month of below normal temperatures…

Keim says we haven’t seen haven’t such frigid temperatures in the last 20 years.  He says the bigger weather story is the winter precipitation in the span of six weeks…

Keim says there’s one more day of extreme cold to go through before the temperatures start stabilizing, which will help defrost interstates and roads…

Water pressure has become a concern across Louisiana in the wake of the recent arctic blast, which has prompted some parishes to issue boil water advisories. So why does this happen? Louisiana Department of Health Chief Engineer Amanda Laughlin (Loff-Lin) says when a hard freeze event takes place, pipes burst and there are an extremely high number of line breaks:

Laughlin says there are nearly 50 boil advisories posted in the state right now, and that number is expected to go up. She says if your house is under a boil water advisory, it’s important to follow the order because when pressure is low, bacteria could potentially enter the distribution system:

Laughlin says the advisories are only a precaution in case something has entered the system that could potentially make you sick. She says it’s still okay to shower and bathe in the water, but any water you ingest should first be boiled…:

An off-duty Alexandria police officer was killed in an accident in Grant Parish Wednesday.  53-year-old Sgt. Travis Lowe of Deville was southbound on Highway 167, when he lost control of his pickup truck and collided with a large tree.  Master State Police Trooper Scott Moreau says the frigid weather didn’t play a factor…

Moreau says they are puzzled as to why a police officer, who is concerned about safe driving, wouldn’t have his seat belt on when he was behind the wheel…

Residents in Louisiana were asked by their utility companies to conserve power for a time period Thursday morning as energy demand was getting close to being more than what the power grids could handle. Entergy spokeswoman Sheila Pounders says the Midcontinent Independent System Operator made the request since they manage supply and demand on the grid..:

Pounders says typically there is a huge spike in power usage about 8am every morning when people are getting to work, so they simply asked folks to refrain for a couple of hours. She says it is extremely unusual for demand to be greater than supply, but if electricity had exceeded available generation, MISO would ask utilities to reduce power…:

Crowley Police says neighbors found a man frozen to death outside his home Wednesday morning. After paramedics arrived, the body of the 56-year-old man was sent for an autopsy.  Police Chief Jimmy Broussard says the death remains suspicious until the report is completed by the coroner…

Broussard says they are interviewing neighbors to try to determine why he was outside and if there were health issues related to his death…

After beating the best team in the Eastern Conference on Tuesday, the Pelicans turned around and lost to the worst team in the East on Wednesday. New Orleans fell to the Hawks 94-93, despite having a 19-point lead in the second quarter. Both Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins missed free throws down the stretch. New Orleans is back on home on Saturday to host Memphis. The Grizzlies are just 15-28 on the season.

The Ragin Cajuns are in first place in the Sun Belt and 5-0. They visit UT Arlington tonight. The Mavericks were picked to win the Sun Belt this season. Frank Bartley leads UL-Lafayette in scoring, averaging 16 points a game. But Coach Bob Marlin says the senior from Baton Rouge is more than a scorer…

Last night, Southeastern Louisiana beat Houston Baptist 85-69 and Northwestern State fell to 0-6 in the Southland after the Demons lost to Sam Houston State 75-52.

Saints punter Thomas Morstead will travel back to Minneapolis and present the Children’s Minnesota Child Life Program with 150-thousand dollars. Vikings fans have been donating to Morstead’s foundation, What You Give Will Grow. They were impressed Morstead was the first to return to the field for the extra point Minnesota had to kick after the Vikings scored the game-winning touchdown on the final play.

Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency as a result of this wicked winter weather. Edwards says 12-hundred DOTD employees have helped put one-point-five million pounds of salt on the roadways statewide. He says it is critical for everyone to stay off the frozen highways…

The icy conditions are likely responsible for the death of a south Louisiana fire chief. 48-year-old Russell Achord of St. Francisville was killed as he was responding to another accident on Highway 61 in West Feliciana Parish. State Police Senior Trooper Bryan Lee says he was hit by 51-year-old Robert McCoy of Tallulah, who came around a curve…

Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff Bud Torres says freezing temperatures resulted in the death of an eldery New Roads man who was scared to use a space heater. Torres says the sad outcome shows people should check on their elderly neighbors during extreme cold weather…

Former LSU great Kevin Faulk will reportedly re-join the program and work with the football support staff. The Advocate says his hiring would need approval from the SEC, because he’s currently an assistant coach at Carencro and can’t have any ties with current players or walk-ons.

McNeese announces Lance Guidry will remain the head coach of the Cowboys after talking with Florida State about becoming an assistant for the Seminoles. A-D Bruce Hemphill says he’s excited Guidry is staying.

Tough loss for the LSU Tigers last night as they fell to Georgia by one point. The Bayou Bengals are now 2-and-3 in the SEC and all three losses have come at home. LSU will now play three of the next four on the road. On Saturday, the Tigers visit Vanderbilt and then return home to face Texas A-and-M on Tuesday.

Nicholls State crushed Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 91-61 last night in Stopher Gymnasium. Senior Guard Tevon Saddler had 23 points as the Colonels got off to a big lead in the first half. Nicholls is now 6-1 in Southland play and in first place in the league. U-N-O is 5-1 in the Southland the Privateers host Central Arkansas tonight. Southeastern Louisiana is 4-1 and they take on Houston Baptist.

A volunteer firefighter in West Feliciana Parish was killed this morning while working a crash. And in Jefferson Parish, an eight-month-old was killed when a car slid into a Metairie canal. Her mother is in critical condition.

It’s possible right tackle Zach Strief will not be back as he’s thinking about retiring. Strief missed most of the season with a torn A-C-L and M-C-L and the 34-year-old may have lost his starting spot to rookie Ryan Ramczyk.

Lance Guidry will remain the head coach at McNeese State. New Florida State head coach Willie Taggart and Guidry talked about becoming an assisant for the Seminoles, but Guidry says it didn’t work out for either party.

Anthony Davis put together another dominating performance last night as he scored 45 points to help the Pelicans beat the Celtics 116 to 113 in overtime. A-D also had 16 rebounds for New Orleans, while DeMarcous Cousins posted 19 points and 15 boards and Jrue Holliday chipped in with 23 points. Let’s see if the Pelicans can give that same type of effort tonight against the Atlanta Hawks.

LSU lost its third straight SEC home game last night as Georgia’s Yante Maten hit a bucket in the lane with five seconds to go to give the Bulldogs a 61-60 win over the tigers. Maten had 21 points. Brandon Sampson led LSU with 17 points, but the Tigers could hold on to a 10-point halftime lead.

Nicholls won its fourth straight Southland game last night as the Colonels cruised past Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 91-61. Tevon Saddler had 23 points and five assists.
