Louisiana Tech has dropped out of the D-1 Top 25 poll after dropping two of three from Charlotte. The Ragin Cajuns are 8-7 in the Sun Belt after sweeping Appalachian State, while ULM was swept by Little Rock.

McNeese swept UNO this past weekend and they are now tied with Southeastern Louisiana for second place in the Southland. The Lions lost a series at Northwestern State.

The Pelicans have another day of preparation in Portland as they get ready for Game Two versus the Trail Blazers. Multiple reports say wide receiver Willie Snead was present today as the Saints begin offseason workouts. Snead has yet to sign his tender, which is the lowest level as a restricted free agent. He only caught eight passes last season after grabbing 138 balls in his first two seasons in New Orleans.

And Saints head Coach Sean Payton tells S-I’s Peter King the quarterback class does not feature any prospects as good as Andrew Luck or Carson Weintz. Payton says Sam Darnold would his best guess as to who might be still in the league four or five years from now.

The House Appropriations Committee is set to approve a budget that fully funds TOPS. The Revenue Estimating Committee recognized 346- million in new revenues and 233-million dollars of that would go towards TOPS under this proposal. New Orleans Representative Walt Leger says the TOPS funding proposal gives students false hope, but because he anticipates amendments to reduce TOPS funding….

The spending plan for next fiscal year is expected to be approved by the committee today and then taken up by the full House on Thursday.

An LSU Public Policy Research Lab survey finds a majority of Louisiana residents support two of Governor John Bel Edwards’ major policy issues – criminal justice reform and Medicaid expansion. Of those surveyed, 61-percent say they support the sweeping changes made last year. LSU’s Dr. Mike Henderson says there seems to be support on changing the state’s sentencing laws, because over half of the respondents believe the system is not fair, especially African-Americans…

Grambling State scored seven runs in the final inning of a seven inning contest to shock Arkansas Pine Bluff 10-9. Cameron Shannon’s bases loaded clearing double ended the game and earned the Tigers a hard fought split of a doubleheader.

The Ragin Cajuns swept Appalachian State in Boone, North Carolina to move to 8-7 in the Sun Belt. UL Lafayette has won five in a row. But the Cajuns couldn’t gain any ground on first place Little Rock as the Trojans swept ULM.

25th ranked Louisiana Tech ended a three-game losing streak by beating Charlotte 10-6. The Diamond Dogs scored six runs in the first inning, plenty for Logan Bailey who won his sixth game.

LSU Quarterbacks threw for a lot of yards in a scrimmage on Saturday that worked on third down situations. Myles Brennan led the way and threw for 415 yards.

At Louisiana Tech’s spring game, Willie Baker had a sack and a half, Cee Jay Powell caught 7 passes for 73 yards, but quarterback J’Mar Smith was just 13 of 34 for 113 yards and Westin Elliot threw two interceptions.

Offers-dot-com’s Carson Yarbrough says most people don’t want to pay their taxes and some say they would go to extreme measures to avoid doing so…

The House Appropriations Committee is expected to approve a budget today for next fiscal year that will contain 648-million dollars in cuts from the current fiscal year. When the budget process started, lawmakers had a nearly billion dollar budget deficit, but an increase in tax collections has led to a much smaller fiscal cliff. Appropriations Chairman Cameron Henry says his committee wants to use that newly recognized revenue for TOPS

Henry says providing more money for district attorneys is another top priority for the committee. He says they also want to adequately fund the state’s waiver program, which provides assistance for those who are disabled. But the state health department and all state agencies can anticipate a cut in funding

Governor Edwards is pushing the legislature to end the regular session early, so a special session can begin in May to approve tax bills that can lead to more revenue and reduce the budget gap. Henry says it’s too early to tell whether the House believes another special session is needed

The LSU Tigers took advantage of good hitting conditions at Alex Box Stadium last night with the wind blowing out as the Bayou Bengals banged out four home runs in a 9-3 win over Tennessee. Jake Slaughter hit two home runs, Hunter Feduccia and Beau Jordan also hit balls that left the yard. Austin Bain had four hits and drove in three runs. Zach Hess allowed one run over seven innings for the victory.

The Ragin Cajuns fell behind 3-0 in the first inning but came back for a four to three win over Appalachian State. Daniel Lahare drove in two runs as UL Lafayette has won three straight.

ULM and Little Rock were postponed until today, so were Louisiana Tech and Charlotte and Northwestern State versus Southeastern Louisiana.

Nicholls and Incarnate Word were suspended in the 12th inning with the game tied at six, while McNeese edged UNO three to two. In the 8th inning, Carson Maxwell doubled home a run and then scored the go-ahead run by stealing home.

B-R-P-D Police Chief Murphy Paul terminated Salamoni from the force for violating policies and procedures during the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling. Salamoni’s attorney John McLindon says he anticipates a hearing on the appeal this summmer…

Did you know that switchblade knives are illegal in Louisiana? The state legislature is taking steps to get that ban off the books. It’s been against the law to own or posses a switchblade knife, except for law enforcement officers, since the 1950s. A bill to repeal the ban was approved unanimously by the House today and heads to the Senate for more discussion.

Shreveport Police have a man in custody following Thursday’s domestic situation in which the victim, 27-year-old Rannita Williams, was shot and killed on Facebook live. The video shows the shadow of 36-year-old Johnathan Robinson pacing back and forth holding a gun in the video. Police Chief Alan Crump says it was a very tense situation…

Crump says Robinson is facing second-degree-murder and felon in possession of a firearm charges. After Robinson was put in custody at the Shreveport city jail, Crump says he became violent again, breaking a water pipe, flooding his  jail cell…
