The city of Zachary in East Baton Rouge parish has received three economic development hits in the last week which will result in the loss of hundreds of jobs. Thompson Pipe Group says its closing its manufacturing plant later this year which will affect 120 workers. Georgia-Pacific last week announced they were laying off 650 workers at their Port Hudson paper mill and BASF is shutting down a chemical plant that employs 54.

The Pelicans and Warriors set an NBA record by hitting a combined 43 3s, but it was Golden State who made more of them as they defeated the Pels 147 to 140. The Warriors knocked down 24 three-pointers, Steph Curry made nine of them and finished with 41 points. Anthony Davis had 30 points and 18 rebounds in the loss. Nikola Mirotic added 29 points.

Roydell Brown had a career-high 25 points as McNeese defeated Nicholls 86-75 in front of 27-hundred fans at the new Health and Human Performance complex. Kevin Johnson had 16 points for the Colonels.

Southeastern Louisiana won its first league game as the Lions upended Lamar 76-69 behind 22 points from Marlain Veal. UNO won its fourth straight as the Privateers dribbled past Stephen F Austin 68-61. UNO fell behind 17-4, but got 15 points off the bench from Troy Green.

Jackson authored a 2014 law that required abortion clinics to have admitting privileges at a local hospital to operate. Terrebonne Parish Sheriff deputies have arrested a 12-year-old girl at Houma Junior High after allegedly threatening to shoot three of her classmates. The threat was made on Instagram. Deputies say the juvenile admitted to sending the message as a joke, but she was still booked at the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Center.

The statewide average price for regular gasoline rose three cents over night to a $1.97. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says gasoline prices are up on average about a nickel over the last week as crude oil prices have also been on the rise…

Three men have been arrested in connection with last week’s shooting death of Shreveport Police Officer Chateri Payne. Payne’s boyfriend and father of her young child, 26-year-old Treveon Anderson, claims he was home when he heard gunshots and ran outside to shoot at a suspect. But Police Chief Ben Raymond says evidence later debunked that story.

Raymond says two other men arrested, 22-year-old Lawrence Pierre and 38-year-old Glenn Frierson, are considered accomplices.  He adds more arrests are possible.

The Louisiana Association of Business and Industry says they are preparing to fight back against any attempts to raise revenue to fund the Governor’s proposed 1,000 dollar teacher, and 500 dollar school support personnel pay raise. President Stephen Waguespack, on AM Baton Rouge, says unnamed leaders have mentioned their support a pay raise tax.

Governor Edwards says no new taxes will be needed to fund the pay raise, which he estimates can be paid for by additional revenue from a surging economy.

Waguespack says he supports some form of a raise for teachers, but did not confirm supporting the raise for support personnel. Still, he says Louisiana teachers actually fare better than their counterparts when you factor in the total compensation package offered.

Louisiana Federation of Teachers spokesperson Les Landon could not confirm that claim.

Instead of a flat raise for all Bayou State teachers, Waguespack, the business lobbyist, supports utilizing the same amount of funds, or fewer, to reward teachers who he feels perform better than their peers.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s office seized the land, which has two homes on it, a baseball field, studios and other features, because of unpaid mortgage payments. Schneider hopes the new owner will maintain the movie studio on the land.

Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond just wrapped up a press conference where he provided a few more details in the shooting death of rookie police officer Chateri Payne. Three men have been arrested. Raymond says one of the suspects was romantically involved with Payne, who was shot multiple times in uniform before she was set to begin her shift.

The Board of Regents has released preliminary numbers that shows only 32-percent of students who are admitted into a college without meeting minimum admissions, graduate in six years, compared to half without exemptions. Students admitted by exceptions also averaged a 2.0 grade point average, while non-exempt students averaged a 2.7. But Higher Ed Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed says student athletes who didn’t meet admission standards perform much closer to average…
