In his hometown of Thibodaux, there is mourning as former LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy is remembered. Authorities in the Houston area say Lacy took his own life on Saturday night during a police chase. He became an All-SEC performer at LSU and Lacy’s former high school football coach at Thibodaux High, Chris Dugas (Doo-gah) says Lacy played football and basketball and helped Thibodaux win a state championship in boys basketball in 2019…

Lacy concentrated on basketball in his first couple of years at Thibodaux, but Dugas helped convince him that he could be a standout wide receiver, with his six-foot-two size and his speed and ability to catch passes. He had a sensational senior season with 54 catches for 864 yards and 18 touchdowns.

David Griffin is out as the Pelicans’ executive director of basketball operations. Owner Gayle Benson announced the move this morning after the Pels suffered through an injury plagued season that saw them finish with the second worst winning percentage in franchise history. Head Coach Willie Green is safe – for now. Jake Madison, the host of the Locked On Pelicans podcast, says the decision to keep or fire Green may ultimately be in the hands of whoever Griffin’s successor is.

Shreveport native and McNeese basketball legend Joe Dumars has reportedly emerged as the front-runner to replace Griffin. Dumars is currently heading NBA basketball ops. Following Sunday’s loss to Oklahoma City, Green appreciated the positive attitude the players kept throughout the season….

New Orleans Police has not identified the person arrested. The shooting victims were transported to the hospital and they are expected to be ok. Palumbo says there was plenty of law enforcement in the area when the shooting took place…

The fallout from the Pelicans’ awful season is underway. Less than 24 hours after wrapping up a 21-and-61 campaign, the Pelicans have fired David Griffin as executive director of basketball operations. Griffin had served in that role for six years, almost to the day. Jake Madison, the host of the Locked On Pelicans podcast, says this move was not unexpected.

Madison says Griffin’s firing is a clear message from Pelicans ownership.

One big question-mark at this time is the status of Head Coach Willie Green. Madison says that decision may ultimately be in the hands of whoever Griffin’s successor is.

The roster was the big issue for the Pelicans this season, with the team losing a whopping 369 man games to injury. 25 players suited up for the Pelicans this season, and Coach Green started 46 different starting lineups in the 82-game season.

Lacy spent his first two years of college football at U-L Lafayette. He led the Cajuns in receiving his freshman season and helped them win a Sun Belt title in 2021. He transferred to LSU after the 2021 campaign and in his senior season he caught 58 passes for 866 yards and an SEC high nine touchdown passes.

He was preparing for the NFL draft, but he was also facing negligent homicide charge for a fatal wreck that State Police say he caused in December in Lafourche Parish on Highway 20.

We’re learning details of the final moments of former LSU star wide receiver Kyren Lacy from law enforcement in the Houston area. Senior Deputy Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office says it started when Lacy’s sister called 911 late Saturday night.

Gilliland says Lacy drove off in a Dodge Charger, and deputies found him a short time later and tried pulling him over. But Lacy would not stop and instead led deputies on a pursuit that lasted several miles before Lacy crashed into a curb.

Gilliland says bodycam footage proves that no deputies discharged their weapons during the pursuit that did not reach extraordinary speeds.

The Pelicans just finished their second worst season in franchise history and Pelicans owner Gayle Benson announced today the firing of executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin. Griffin had that role for the last six seasons and that included two playoff appearances. But this year the team finished with a 21-and-61 record. Head Coach Willie Green says this was a season unlike any that he had been a part of, both as a player and a coach…

Four people were injured in a shooting last night in the New Orleans French Quarter. The injury victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and one person has been apprehended.

Ponchatoula police are hoping to make arrests soon for a shooting that injured two people at the Strawberry Festival on Saturday night. The injuries in this case are also non-life threatening.

LSU football and Thibodaux High School are mourning the death of Kyren Lacy. Houston authorities say the 24-year-old wide receiver took his own life on Saturday night during a police pursuit.

The 2025 legislative session begins today, and insurance reform will be a big topic for the next two months. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat conducted a poll two weeks ago and found that 76 percent of the respondents have experienced a premium increase of ten percent or more in the past year

There are numerous insurance reform bills filed for the session ranging from changes to how car crashes are handled in the court system to expanding the state’s fortified roof program.

Law enforcement were in pursuit of Lacy after he fired a gun into the ground during a verbal argument with a female relative. When Harris County Sheriff deputies caught up with him, Lacy had crashed his vehicle and he was dead inside. A handgun was found in the vehicle. Lacy was 24-years-old.

The third ranked LSU baseball team was swept by Auburn for the first time since 1988. The Tigers hit just .187 for the series. ULM won a baseball series over the Ragin Cajuns for the first time since 2012. Louisiana Tech lost to Middle Tennessee four to three yesterday to fall a half game back of Western Kentucky for first place. McNeese is tied with Houston Christian for first place in the Southland after sweeping UIW. The Cowboys have the longest winning streak in the country at 12 games and they are at LSU tomorrow night.

An awful Pelicans season is finally over as New Orleans lost to Oklahoma City yesterday to finish the year 21-61, the second worst season in franchise history. Four people were shot in the French Quarter last night and one person has been arrested. New Orleans Police say the shooting happened at the intersection of Iberville and Decatur Streets shortly after the conclusion of French Quarter Fest.

Authorities in Tangipahoa Parish are looking for the person or persons responsible for shooting two people at the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival on Saturday night The victims are 19 and 20-years-old and expected to make a full recovery.

LSU baseball’s nine game winning streak came to an end last night as the Tigers lost to the Auburn Tigers eight to four. LSU sophomore left-hander Kade Anderson suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed six runs. And former LSU pitcher Sam Dutton was outstanding for Auburn. Dutton threw six shutout innings, allowed three hits, two walks and struck out seven.

Louisiana Tech maintained its half game lead for first place in Conference USA with a five to four win over Middle Tennessee. Freshman Trey Hawsey homered twice, Eli Berch drove in three runs and Luke Cooley was the winning pitcher.

The Ragin Cajuns thumped U-L-M nine to three. Conner Higgs homered and drove in three runs. Lee Amedee also drove in three runs and Chase Morgan was the winning pitcher. U-L Lafayette remains a game out of first place.

Big news broke on Friday afternoon involving the Black and Gold as Saints starting quarterback Derek Carr might not play in 2025. The NFL Network is reporting Carr has a shoulder injury and he might need surgery. Former Saints quarterback and WWL’s Bobby Hebert says Carr’s injury could open the door for Spencer Rattler, who is entering his second season…

The Saints have the number nine pick in the first round of the draft and could take a quarterback.

Former LSU Tiger Patrick Peterson will officially retire from the NFL on Monday. Peterson will sign a one-day contract with the Cardinals so he can retire with the team that drafted him. Peterson played ten seasons in Arizona and during his 13-year career, Peterson was an eight-time Pro Bowler. He did not play in 2024.

Playing without their top six players, the Pelicans suffered their worst loss in franchise history last night, as they were scorched by the Heat 153 to 104. It’s also the most points the Pels have allowed in a game.

For the second straight week, the third ranked LSU baseball team is on the road to face another team ranked in the Top 10. Ninth ranked Auburn has won three of its four SEC series this season. But they are probably missing center fielder Chris Stanfield. Stanfield has excelled at LSU this season after two years at Auburn. He’s been solid in centerfield and is batting .327 in the nine-hole. Stanfield is looking forward to seeing his old teammates….

LSU football will hold an open practice tomorrow in Tiger Stadium as spring practice is winding down. The Tigers return only one starter on the offensive line, and that’s center DJ Chester. Chester has been the first team center throughout spring practice despite competition from Virginia Tech transfer Braelin Moore. Chester says he feels much more comfortable at center this season…
