He says high temperatures will stay below freezing that day for those cities and dangerous wind chills are also expected Monday and Tuesday.

Pelican Waste has set up a GoFundMe for the two sanitation workers who spotted a car from an Amber Alert earlier this week in St. Martin Parish and helped rescue a kidnapped 10-year-old. The fund has raised over 4,500 dollars for Dion Merrick and Brandon Antoine and Pelican spokesperson Monica Camille says they deserve it….

57 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations in Louisiana begin administering COVID-19 vaccine shots today. Taxpayers can also start filing their federal and state income tax returns. The Revenue Department says federal unemployment benefits are subject to state income taxes.

After seeing their four-game winning streak end Wednesday in Chicago, the Pelicans will try to start a new winning streak tonight when they visit Dallas. The Mavericks have won three in a row. It’s the first meeting of the season for the southwest division rivals. Tip-off is at 6:30.

Louisiana Tech men’s basketball will take on UAB in a two-game series beginning tonight at 6:30 in Ruston. UAB is one of the top teams in Conference USA, riding a six-game winning streak and boasting a 16-2 overall record. Tech coach Eric Konkol says what makes the Blazers so good is their aggressive defense.

UAB ranks in the top ten in the nation in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense.

Tomorrow LSU hosts 16th ranked Tennessee at one o’clock as the Tigers look for their first win over a ranked opponent.

ULM fans are happy today as the Warhawks men’s basketball team ended its ten-game losing streak by beating the Ragin Cajuns 72-66. ULM was led by Russell Harrish who had 17 points and ten rebounds. The Cajuns shot just 39-percent from the field.

But the U-L Lafayette women’s basketball team won a school-record 10th straight game last night beating ULM 65-51. The Lady Cajuns are 10-1 in the Sun Belt.

The Lady Tigers lost to Florida in overtime in the PMAC last night as the Lady Gators won 73-66 to drop LSU’s record to 8-and-9 overall.

LSU baseball is picked to finish fourth in the SEC West in a preseason poll of the league’s coaches. Sam Houston is the preseason favorite to win the Southland Conference. McNeese is picked to finish second and Southeastern Louisiana third.

Baseball America has named Louisiana Tech’s Parker Bates as the Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year.

Several bridges and overpasses in north Louisiana are closed as a result of light icing from freezing rain. More winter weather is on the way, which is why Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency as the northern half of the state could be hit with two winter storms next week and dangerous wind chills.

Tulane has participated in a study that has found older people with higher body mass indexes and an increasing degree of COVID infection are three times more likely to be a super spreader than a younger, healthier person. Tulane researcher, Doctor Chris Roy says the study also showed COVID weakens airway mucus allowing viral particles to move more freely out of the body which reinforces the message of if you get sick, stay home.

The ULM men’s basketball team snapped its ten-game losing streak last night by beating in-state rival U-L Lafayette 72-66. Russell Harrison led the way for the Warhawks as he scored 17 points and had 10 rebounds. Koreem Ozier added 15 points. Mylik Wilson and Cedric Russell each had 13 points for the Cajuns and redshirt freshman shooting guard Devin Butts did not play because he’s been suspended for an undisclosed disciplinary reason. The same two teams will play today in Monroe.

Louisiana Tech will host Conference USA West Division leader U-A-B tonight for the start of a two-game series. The Blazers have won six in a row and they are nine and one in league play. UAB ranks in the top ten in the nation in field goal percentage defense and scoring defense. The Bulldogs are 8-and-4 in league play.

And the Pelicans continue their Mardi Gras road trip by visiting Dallas tonight. Both teams are two games under the .500 mark.

The top two teams in women’s gymnastics meet tonight at the Maravich Center as second-ranked LSU hosts first ranked Florida at 6:15.

The northern half of the state is under a winter weather advisory as mainly central and northeast Louisiana will see periods of freezing rain and freezing drizzle until noon today. Light ice accumulations are possible.

A study shows New Orleans post-Mardi Gras wave of coronavirus infections has been traced back to one person who arrived in the city around February 11th from Texas. Matt Doyle has the story.

Court records describe what happened during a July 2019 traffic stop in Ouachita Parish that led to two State troopers getting arrested for allegedly using excessive force. According to the arrest warrant, a suspect was thrown to the ground and punched in the head. The report also says the suspect showed no signs of resisting.
