Michigan is also a good three-point shooting team as they are shooting 39-percent from three-point land.

The Pelicans are off tonight after picking up a five-point win at Denver yesterday. Tomorrow, the Pels will host the Lakers, who are without LeBron James and Anthony Davis because of injuries.

The Saints will not raise season ticket prices in 2021 and the league announces they will have prospects and fans in attendance for the NFL draft in Cleveland.

After dropping two of three to Mississippi State this past weekend, the LSU baseball team fell three more spots to number 22 in the latest D-1 baseball poll. Weather permitting, the Tigers will visit Tulane tomorrow. The Green Wave were swept by Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs have won five in a row and they’ve landed in the D-1 baseball poll as they are ranked 23rd.

La Tech junior left-hander Jonathan Fincher was named co-Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after throwing a complete game, one-hit shutout against the Green Wave on Friday. Fincher lowered his ERA to 1.50.

Northwestern State sophomore right-hander Levi David has been named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week. He struck out a career-high 12 Sam Houson batters in a win on Saturday.

The Demons are 4-and-4 in the Southland and in the middle of the pack of the conference standings. McNeese leads the league with a 6-and-1 conference record, followed by UNO and Nicholls who are both six and two.

The special election for the 2nd Congressional District is headed to a runoff between New Orleans State Senators Karen Carter Peterson and Troy Carter.

Carter won 36 percent to Peterson’s 23 percent. Baton Rouge activist Gary Chambers nearly made the runoff at 21 percent. JMC Analytics Publisher John Couvillon says Carter is the favorite, but…

Total turnout was 18 percent, above initial predictions that it would land in the high single digits.

Republican candidates combined for 16 percent of the vote. Couvillon says along with a Chambers endorsement this is the second biggest factor that will impact the runoff.

Claston Bernard led the Republican field at ten percent.

The race did see one strange situation. Peterson took third place in her home district while Chambers took third place in his hometown Baton Rouge precincts. Couvillon says it’s hard to know what to make of that…

Republican Julia Letlow overwhelmingly wins the special election for the fifth congressional district. The seat was previously won by her husband Luke Letlow, who passed away from COVID in December before being sworn in. She says winning is the honor of a lifetime especially in the district she calls home.

Letlow who garnered 65-percent of the vote is the mother to two young children, Jeremiah is three and Jacqueline one. Letlow says they were with her Saturday night as the results came in.

One of Letlow’s opponents ran for the seat out of concern she wouldn’t have time for her two young children. Letlow says women have been juggling for centuries and she’s just following the lead of other women who have gone before her.

Letlow says once the state certifies the votes she will be sworn in office.

It’s a nice day today, but get ready for some wet weather starting tomorrow.  Christopher Bannon with the National Weather Service in New Orleans says southeast Louisiana could see several inches of rain Tuesday through Thursday.

The entire state will see rainfall over the next few days, but Bannon says a flash flood risk exists both tomorrow and Wednesday for southeast Louisiana as a cold front stall over the area

A flash flood watch is in effect for southeast Louisiana from Tuesday morning through Thursday night. Bannon says multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain are expected across and the area. He says flooding of low-lying and flood-prone areas is possible with localized flash flooding…

Over 10,000 Louisianans are now believed to have died from COVID-19 as of today’s Department of Health report.

The first reported COVID-19 death in Louisiana occurred on March 14th, 2020. Governor Edwards says it’s a grim reminder of just how deadly the pandemic has been.

Early on in the pandemic, there was widespread misinformation calling COVID-19 no worse than the common flu. Edwards says that’s been completely debunked.

Despite that grim milestone, there are signs of hope. As of today over a million Louisianans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The American Rescue Act, which was recently approved in Congress, has a provision that restricts states from cutting taxes as the one-point-nine trillion-dollar legislation contains 350-billion dollars in assistance for states. Solicitor General in the Louisiana Attorney General’s office, Liz Murrill, says the mandate is unlawful and unconstitutional…

Essential workers can get the COVID vaccine starting today. That means grocery store employees, restaurant workers, bank tellers, postal workers, and a lot more individuals can get vaccinated. Seven-foot-one freshman Hunter Dickinson leads the Wolverines in scoring, averaging 14 points a game and six-foot-nine guard Franz Wagner is averaging 12 points a contest and he’s also a 38-percent shooter from three-point territory.

The Pelicans finished off a three-game road trip by beating Denver 113 to 108 yesterday. Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram each had 30 points.

The 19th ranked LSU baseball team got the bats going yesterday to salvage the final game of their weekend series with third-ranked Mississippi State. Gavin Dugas blasted a solo home run to break a two-two tie in the sixth inning and the Tigers went on to win eight to three. Freshman designated hitter Brody Drost also homered.

Louisiana Tech is red hot after finishing off a sweep of Tulane this past weekend. Manny Garcia homered and drove in three runs for the Bulldogs who have won five in a row. Tech will host ULM tomorrow night.

The Warhawks won their opening Sun Belt Conference series by taking two of three from Georgia State. Danny DeSimone hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to make it 9-0 and ULM held on to win nine to seven.

The Ragin Cajuns dropped two of three to 15th ranked TCU. McNeese leads the Southland Conference after taking three of four from Houston Baptist.

In NFL free agency, former Saints defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins has signed a two-year, 17-million dollar contract with the New York Jets. In five seasons in New Orleans, Rankins had 17.5 sacks.

Chopin says the Lottery was extremely lucky that their retailers, grocery and convenience stores, remained open thorough out 2020. Allowing them to entertain consumers.

Casinos closed for two months in 2020 and then reopened at limited capacity, making the lottery the only game in town for a bit.

Chopin says another bonus for the Lottery came in June when the legislature eased the budgetary transfer mandate allowing them to put more money into prizes.

And sales also boomed for the Louisiana Lottery with record jackpots of 1-billion and 731-million for Mega Millions and Powerball in January. The Louisiana Lottery will celebrate its 30 year anniversary in September.

Per the AG’s office, the wording of the stimulus bill forbids states from using COVID-19 relief funds to “directly or indirectly offset a reduction in net tax revenues.” 21 AG’s signed onto a letter sent to the Treasury Secretary opposing the language and asking for regulatory intervention removing it.

Governor Edwards says he has no problem with the requirement, and it doesn’t change any of his plans. He says he’s committed to pursuing tax reform, but only if it is revenue-neutral.

The Governor has unilateral authority to accept or reject the federal funds, and the mandates that come with them.

This is the eight time St. Bonaventure has made the Big Dance and being the ninth seed is the highest they’ve ever been.

Louisiana Tech advanced in the N-I-T as the Bulldogs beat Ole Miss 70-61 last night. Freshman Kenneth Lofton had another big game with 22 points and seven rebounds as Tech erased a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Rebels 43-24 in the second half. The Dunkin Dogs will play Conference USA rival Western Kentucky in the quarterfinals of the N-I-T on Thursday night.

LSU baseball knew it would face some great pitching during its opening SEC series and that’s exactly what happened last night as the Bayou Bengals struck out out 12 times in a 6-1 loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs. LSU had four hits on the night and Jaden HIll gave up six runs in his second loss.

Elsewhere, Louisiana Tech’s Jonathan Fincher threw a one-hitter as the Bulldogs blanked Tulane 2-0. Hunter Wells had two hits and drove in a run.

The Ragin Cajuns took down 15th ranked TCU seven to two. Tyler Robertson hit a three run homer and Spencer Arrighetti struck out eight in his third win.

ULM gave up three runs in the sixh inning and lost to Georgia State 4-3.

McNeese thumped Houston Baptist 12-6, Nicholls edged Abilene Christian seven to six, Sam Houston over Northwestern State three to two and Grambling topped Texas Southern five to four

In college football, Grambling hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff at Noon and McNeese is at Northwestern State for a four PM kick-off.
