The broadcast world is mourning the death of legendary WGNO Sports Director Ed Daniels who died yesterday, three weeks after suffering a heart attack while covering Saints training camp in Irvine, California. Daniels was legendary covering Louisiana sports, twice named Louisiana Sportscaster of the year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Ed Daniels was 67.

The Louisiana Department of Health has issued a “do not use” water advisory for residents in Madison Parish. The advisory warns residents not to consume or bathe in the water due to potential contamination. Louisiana Surgeon General, Dr. Ralph Abraham, says the advisory comes after a significant drop in water pressure, which raises concerns about paraquat, a toxic herbicide entering the water supply.

The Louisiana Workforce Commission the state’s unemployment rate for July dropped below four-percent to three-point-nine percent. Director of Research and Economic Analysis, Emily Dipalma, says when the unemployment rate is this low, it’s a sign that most people who end up on unemployment do not last long

Morgan City’s Vernon Norwood is the owner of four Olympic medals after winning two more medals at the Paris Games for Team U-S-A. After high school, Norwood won four NCAA championships in two seasons at LSU winning both indoor and outdoor titles. Norwood had a troubled childhood in New Orleans, but left after Hurricane Katrina. Retired Morgan City Principal Tim Hymel (e-male) Hymel says the move to Morgan City may have saved his life…

There are times when high school football games and other athletic events have to be moved to Thursday night due to a shortage of officials. Director of Officials for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Lee Sanders says they consistently try to recruit and retain referees.

Tulane University receives $23 million from the Biden Cancer Moonshot initiative. Brooke Thorington has more.

A new survey by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) shows 25 percent of small business owners report inflation as their most pressing problem. Louisiana NFIB Director Leah Long says some business owners are optimistic about the future, but many remain cautious when it comes to inflation.

Tulane University has received $23 million from the Biden Cancer Moonshot initiative. First Lady Jill Biden says the loss of their son Beau to brain cancer in 2015 inspired the creation of the  initiative. Launched in 2016, it has created more than 95 programs, policies, and resources to accelerate cancer research.

According to a recent survey from The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) rising prices are significantly impacting businesses across the country, In addition to increased costs for supplies, labor, and transportation, 33 percent of business owners report having raised their average selling prices to cope with inflation, though Louisiana NFIB Director Leah Long says this has done little to ease the financial strain.

The survey revealed that 25 percent of small business owners identified inflation as their most pressing problem, marking it as the top concern for nearly three years. President Joe Biden announced an award of $23 million to Tulane University for the creation of an imaging system to give surgeons the ability to scan tumors during surgery to determine in just minutes if any cancer tissue has been left behind. A new pill for mothers suffering from postpartum depression is showing success. According to Chief Medical Officer for United Health Care, Dr. Kevin Stephens, Zurzuvae (Zur-ZOO-vay) which is now available in pill form is showing more promise than other drugs in treating postpartum depression.

LSU Athletics will be the first college sports program to use an AI-enabled digital stethoscope this school year. Mel Bridges has the story.

State Police Criminal Investigations Division has been called in by Delhi Police to investigate an officer involved shooting that happened just before eleven last night in the 7200 block of Highway 17 in Delhi. Authorities say one subject was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were harmed in the incident. We’re told this is an active investigation.

LSU is the first college sports program to use AI-enabled digital stethoscopes for their student-athletes. Joseph Authement (Aw-theh-ment) with Eko (Echo) Health says their CORE 500 digital stethoscopes are capable of showing potential cardiac diseases in around 15 seconds, including types of heart diseases that could otherwise go undiagnosed.

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services is rolling out the On The Road Again Initiative to help noncustodial parents get their driver’s license back if it’s been suspended due to unpaid child support. He says Zurzuvae (Zur-ZOO-vay) can help with a serious problem that’s often not discussed.

A popular jogging spot was roped off in New Orleans yesterday after a body was found in a lagoon at Audubon Park early yesterday morning.  The body was discovered around 8:30 yesterday morning and there’s no indication that foul play was involved.  Authorities say  the death is being investigated as an unclassified death

This school year two new laws are in effect emphasizing a parent’s right to have their children opt out of vaccine requirements and prevent schools from requiring COVID vaccinations. Gonzales Representative Kathy Edmonston, who authored the legislation, says if parents have any issues opting out, they should call the State Department of Education or her office…

A third case of measels has popped up in Louisiana this week, according to the Louisiana Department of Health. We’re told the person is an international visitor who was not fully vaccinated. Measles is highly contagious and can spread rapidly among individuals who have not had the MMR vaccine. We’re told the individual who tested positive is hospitalized in isolation.

May 7, 2025, is now the final deadline for U-S residents to obtain a REAL ID-compliant identification to board domestic flights. Sean Richardson has more.

Starting May 7, 2025, U.S. residents will need a REAL ID-compliant identification to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. The REAL ID Act was passed by Congress in 2005 in response to the 9/11 attacks. Louisiana OMV Commissioner Dan Casey encourages travelers to check their current ID and, if necessary, visit the DMF for a REAL ID as early as possible to avoid travel disruptions.

Currently, only 25 percent of Louisiana residents have obtained a REAL ID.

In case you missed it, former LSU track and field great Sha’Carri Richardson won her first Olympic gold medal with the USA women’s 4×100 relay team in Parish late yesterday. Melissa Jefferson, Twanisha Terry, Gabby Thomas and Richardson finished with a time of 41.78, edging out Great Britain and Germany for the gold medal.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) has partnered with the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association (LADA) to launch the “Put the Brakes on Litter” campaign. The hope is that by educating drivers and encouraging responsible disposal habits, they can make a significant impact on keeping Louisiana’s roads and communities clean. KLB Director Susan Russell.
