Governor Landry releases more details of the beefed-up security for the Super Bowl. Andrew Greenstein reports.

In Caddo Parish, a Sheriff’s Deputy has been arrested, charged with battery against a dating partner.  Sherriff Henry Whitehorn, Senior said 61 year old Earl Armstrong was taken into custody after Armstrong’s girlfriend provided video evidence of the incident.  He was booked into the Caddo Correctional Center.

Senator Bill Cassidy is under intense pressure from Louisiana conservatives to confirm Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Trump’s health secretary. Cassidy, ho’s facing reelection next year,  continues outreach efforts but has yet to reconcile with President Trump, making his upcoming vote pivotal for his political future. Political Analyst Robert Hogan believes a “no” vote would end his re-election chances.

The Saints top executives flew to Philadelphia on Monday night to interview Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. NFL analyst and WWL Radio’s Mike Detillier believes Moore will be announced as New Orleans next head coach after the Super Bowl…

Senator John Kennedy says Congress needs to make spending cuts a priority, while maintaining national defense, extending tax cuts, and tackling inflation.  Speaking on the Senate floor, Kennedy warned that failing to extend the 2017 tax cuts would severely damage the economy.

From February 5th through the 10th, there will be a French Quarter Enhanced Security Zone bordered by Canal, Royal, St. Ann and Dauphine streets. Within that zone, all coolers and ice chests will be prohibited. And any bag larger than 4 ½ by 6 ½ will be searched…

A 30-year Marine Corps veteran got the surprise of a lifetime – he was told by Jayden Daniels that he was selected by USAA to go to the Super Bowl. Jonathan Knauth (kuh-NOWTH) of Stafford County, Virginia, says he was nominated for the tickets, but had forgotten all about it until he heard the news.

North and central Louisiana are getting an additional area code in the 318 area code territory.   Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says the new 457 area code will be for new numbers because 318 simply ran out of numbers.

Starting on February 24th, AT&T and other carriers would like phone users to use all ten numbers to make a call within the 318 area code territory, because after August 25th the call will not go through if you dial a number using just seven digits.

A cat near New Orleans is confirmed to have been infected with bird flu. Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says a domestic breed feral cat was picked up in Plaquemines Parish for neutering.

Jayden Daniels’ magical rookie season with the Washington Commanders has come to an end after yesterday’s 55-23 loss to the Eagles.   Daniels had one interception, and the Commanders also lost three fumbles. Daniels says it’s a tough way to end the season.

As was the case two years ago, the Eagles will face the Kansas City Chiefs in New Orleans.

A cat near New Orleans is confirmed to have been infected with bird flu. Colleen Crain reports.

North and central Louisiana are getting a new area code, but it will be several months before phone numbers are assigned with a new 457 area code in the current 318 area code territory.  Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell says if you currently have a phone number with a 318 area code, it won’t change.

One of the LSU baseball team’s top performers in 2024 will likely play a different position this season. Steven Milam was a first-team freshman All-American last season at second base, hitting .326 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs. Coach Jay Johnson.

Jayden Daniels’ magical rookie season with the Washington Commanders has come to an end. The Commanders were blown out by the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game, 55-23. After the game, Daniels said he and his team accomplished a lot this season.

Louisiana is using the occasion of hosting the Super Bowl to showcase itself to companies and prospective newcomers. Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois (BOO-zhwah) says they are setting up the “Louisiana NOW” pavilion to tell the state’s story through interactive exhibits, theater and meeting spaces.

The man Shreveport police are looking for in connection with a robbery and fatal shooting at a Walgreens this week, reportedly has a length criminal record.  According to authorities 44 Year old Larry D. Lewis has an assorted list of arrests dating back to 19-97.  Lewis has been named as a possible suspect in the death of 67 year old Billy Jamison on Wednesday.

The LSU women’s basketball team came out of the gate fast yesterday, but ended up losing  to second-ranked South Carolina 66 to 56.  Head Coach Kim Mulkey is now 0-and-5 against South Carolina during her time at LSU, but she is not losing any sleep over it…

LSU will host Texas A-and-M on Sunday.

This arctic blast has certainly done a number on our plants. LSU Ag Center horticulturist Jason Stagg says when assessing damage to your plants, wait a week before deciding what’s actually lost.   And he says when you do cut back your plants, don’t cut them all the way to the ground, because you’ll leave them more vulnerable in future freezes.

Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis emphasizes the city’s rich history as a foundation for future progress, promoting the city as a hub of opportunity. Key efforts include community development, creating a business-friendly environment, and infrastructure improvements.

Meanwhile, A&E has announced a new series, Duck Dynasty: The Revival, premiering this summer. Sheila Snow, Vice President of Marketing at the Monroe-West Monroe Visitors Bureau, anticipates a boost in tourism saying the Robertson family has expanding its warehouse and adding retail space and a new attraction for visitors.

The Louisiana Department of Health has confirmed two winter weather-related deaths in Pointe Coupee and Orleans parishes.  According to officials, hypothermia  was a contributing factor to the death of an 85 year old man in Pointe Coupee Parish.  And he death of a 65 year old woman in Orleans Parish was attributed to a fire caused by a space heater.

Who’s America rooting for to win the Super Bowl? David Mason, the sportsbook brand manager for Bet Online-dot-A-G, says based on the number of hashtag mentions for the four remaining teams, America has a clear top choice.

But Louisiana’s not in that group.  With former LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels at the helm, Louisianians are clearly rooting for the Washington Commanders.  The NFC Championship game between the Eagles and Commanders is tomorrow afternoon at 2.
