Busy Friday night in high school football across the state.  Some scores of note Barbe took down New Iberia 35 to 7.  Evangel Christian won a nail-biter against Benton 33 to 32,  John Curtis  toped John Curtis Christian 17 to 14.  It was Destrehan over Captain Shreve 46 to 42 and Acadiana trounced Lafayette.  Final score 55 to 10.

People are not procrastinating when it comes to voting in the presidential election. People are showing up in droves on this, the first day of early voting. The Louisiana Secretary of State’s office reports close to 92 thousand voters cast their ballots yesterday. Some voters told us they wanted to get it done now to avoid any problems in the future.

Aburn ban remains in place in Louisiana right now. But fire departments have reported that local burn bans significantly increase the number of emergency calls, as residents often report any visible fire, even those not covered by the ban. Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says reminds people that burning wooded areas is illegal…

Early voting in the presidential election is underway here in Louisiana, and the polling places are very busy. Andrew Greenstein is outside one of them in Baton Rouge.

College football fans in Louisiana will get an early start this morning. The Rajun Cajuns are set to take on Coastal Carolina and Nichols will host Northwestern State.  Both games kick off this morning at 11.

Ongoing dry conditions, low humidity, and high winds, are raising concerns among firefighters about a potential increase in wildfires.  That as a burn ban remains in place across the State.  Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain says if you’re doing prescribed burning to monitor wind speeds and follow all the guidelines for prescribed burning…

Louisiana voters are not wasting any time when it comes to casting their ballots in the presidential election. People were showing up in droves on yesterday on the first day of early voting. These people cast their ballots at the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge.

According to the Louisiana Secretary of State’s office, close to 92 thousand voters cast their ballots yesterday.

Louisiana’s looking for some new poll commissioners for the upcoming election. Secretary of State Nancy Landry says many of the current poll commissioners are looking to step aside and give way to others.  Landry says it’s a big responsibility, but working as a poll commissioner can teach you a lot about the elections process in Louisiana.

For all of you tired of the sweltering heat and humidity of South Louisiana, there’s a cold front on the way today.  LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says daytime highs, hovering in the upper 80s and low 90s, will drop into the 70s, with overnight lows dipping into the 50s in some areas.

The Republican Party of Rapides (rap-EEDZ) Parish is asking the mayor of Pineville to resign immediately. Mayor Rich Dupree announced that he would resign amid reports of an inappropriate relationship with a city staffer. Dupree had originally set his resignation date for October 6th, but he later pushed that date back to October 20th so that the city could appoint a new mayor to serve the remainder of his term to save the city the cost of a special election. Randy Wiggins, the chairman of the Republican Party of Rapides Parish, says that choice really ought to be with the people of Pineville.

A new national report card shows that kids in Louisiana and across the nation are achieving nearly a failing grade when it comes to physical activity. Dr. Katie Spring at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at LSU says kids are getting way too much screen time but what they really need is an hour of physical activity a day, and it doesn’t have to be too strenuous.

Two people are dead after what  authorities described as a domestic-related shooting outside a Slidell area pharmacy.  The shootings happened yesterday afternoon just before four outside the Walgreen’s on south Military Road and Gause Boulevard just outside the city limits. St. Tammany Sheriff’s officials said a man died at the scene and a woman was rushed to the hospital, where she also died of her injuries.

But GOHSEP Director Jacques Thibodeaux says Louisiana’s ongoing recovery from Hurricane Francine remains unaffected. With hurricane season continuing until November 30, Thibodeaux urges Gulf Coast residents to stay prepared for future storms and says volunteers are always needed.

A small Baton Rouge business is taking on a company co-founded by Tiger Woods in a trademark dispute. Sun Day Red is suing Tigeraire, which makes products designed to keep people cool in hot conditions, saying that its claims of trademark infringement are meritless. The Companies have similar logos. But Tigerair’s been using its logo since 2020 and Sun Day Red wasn’t launched until this February. That’s when Tigeraire CEO Jack Karavich says the confusion began.
