Governor Jeff Landry must produce text messages he sent to LSU Board Chair, Scott Ballard about law professor, Ken Levy who was suspended after he made critical remarks about Landry to his students.  Levy testified Monday that he was told and believes a student reported his comments to Landry who then reached out to Balland. Levy’s attorney, Jill Craft, says Levy’s comments are protected free speech. Nineteenth Judicial District Judge Tarvald Smith ordered Landry to produce the messages after Craft requested them.

A Flood Watch is in effect for northern Louisiana due to heavy rainfall expected through Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service says there will be a 50-75% chance that rainfall totals will be greater than three inches for the area. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says there’s also the chance for severe weather…

Baton Rouge-based Cajun Industries has chosen the Port of Iberia for its new 60-acre assembly yard, where heavy industrial modules will be built. Port of Iberia Executive Director Craig Romero says Cajun Industry says, at full capacity, the facility will employ over 600 skilled workers, including crane operators, pipefitters, and welders.

Kenner Police release new evidence in last week’s death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano, who was in New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl.  Sean Richardson has more.

Lafayette Police say a murder-suicide happened on Johnston Street last night and the couple’s two children were present in the vehicle.  Corporal Ashley Wood says the two victims from New Iberia were found in a white SUV, 47-year-old Shentell Brown and her husband 60-year-old Kevin Brown

Wood says she died from her wounds and then Brown turns the gun on himself.

It was quite a performance for Super Bowl 59 champions Philadelphia Eagles and Mark Romig, the chief marketing officer of New Orleans and Company says the city has gotten great feedback on its performance in Super Bowl 59.

Louisiana was represented well on the field Sunday. A former Saint, Zack Baun returned to New Orleans as a Philadelphia Eagle and intercepted a Patrick Mahomes pass late in the 2nd quarter to set up a touchdown that put the Eagles up 24-nothing at halftime. Baun a former special teams player with the Saints, blossomed with the Eagles, earning Pro Bowl honors. He says he’s going to take time to decompress and reflect on the breakout season he had.

DeVonta Smith from Amite High School caught a 46-yard touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter that put the game away. And former Louisiana Tech Bulldog Milton Williams forced a fumble when he sacked Patrick Mahomes in the 4th quarter and recovered that fumble.

More people have come forward to Kenner police claiming Danette Colbert, the woman linked to the suspicious death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano, also victimized them. Police Chief Keith Conley says they seized three cell phones one possibly belonging to Manzano and Conley says Pending toxicology results, charges could be upgraded to homicide.

Two children in the backseat exited the vehicle; one flagged down a passing motorist for help.

The Eagles dethroned the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, 40-22, to win Super Bowl LIX. It was an especially big game for Eagles players with Louisiana ties. Former Saint Zack Baun returned to his old stomping grounds and intercepted a Patrick Mahomes pass late in the 2nd quarter to set up a touchdown that put the Eagles up 24-nothing at halftime.

With the Saints, Baun was used almost exclusively on special teams. He blossomed with the Eagles, earning Pro Bowl honors and was a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year.

During Kendric Lamar’s halftime show, security personnel ran onto the field and tackled a man who was running around holding up a Sudanese-Palestinian flag. “Sudan” and “Gaza” were written on it. The NFL says the person detained was one of Lamar’s performers, but no one involved with the production knew that this individual would do this. The NFL is not pressing charged but he has now been banned from any future involvement with Super Bowl events.

Evidence linking Danette Colbert of Slidell to the suspicious death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano is piling up says Kenner Police. Chief Keith Conley says three cell phones were seized, and one is believed to be the victims. Conley says more potential victims of Colbert have contacted Kenner PD claiming Colbert victimized them.

Pending further investigation and toxicology results, charges against Colbert could be upgraded to homicide.

Lafayette Police say the children of a couple were in the vehicle when 60-year-old Kevin Brown fatally shot his wife 47-year-old Shentell Brown multiple times then turned the gun on himself last night. Corporal Ashley Wood says they were from New Iberia. The two children in the backseat at the time of the shooting one flagged down a passing motorist for help.

Louisiana death penalty sentences may soon be carried out. A statement released by the Governor’s office says updated protocols including the use of the recently approved nitrogen hypoxia method have been finalized.  Governor Jeff Landry said, “The time forbroken promises has ended; we will carry out these sentences and justice will be dispensed.” He called on DAs to finalize cases that have already been reviewed and them quickly through the courts.

The average price for live crawfish has dropped $1.20 a pound heading into Super Bowl weekend. That’s according to Laney King with the Crawfish App, who says this is shaping up to be a much better crawfish season than last year…

Cut 8 (13) “….when it really counts”

King says if you purchase boiled crawfish from your favorite spot, expect to pay around $7.10 a pound and a 35-pound sack is going for around 165-dollars.

Super Bowl 59 is expected to break betting records. Adam Thompson with bookies-dot-com says one notable prop bet is Saquon Barkley to record 10 plus rushing yards in each quarter.

Just about anything associated with Super Bowl Sunday is subject to prop bets. Thompson says another angle focuses on the national anthem, performed by New Orleans native Jon Batiste, and there are bets inspired with Taylor Swift songs

Kenner Police arrest a woman in connection with the death of a Kansas City TV reporter in town covering the Super Bowl. Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley says Danette Colbert was seen on a surveillance video at entering Adan Manzano’s hotel room Wednesday morning. His credit card and phone were later found in her residence. Conley says Colbert is a career criminal who has done this type of thing before.

So far, Colbert has only been charged with having Manzano’s credit card. Depending on what Manzano’s autopsy reveals, those charges could be upgraded.

The Eagles and the Chiefs do battle in Super Bowl 59 Sunday and visitors to the NFL Experience at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans are making predictions. One woman says she thinks one team will make Super Bowl history.

Crawfish lovers have something other than the Super Bowl to celebrate. Following the recent historic snowstorm, supply has rebounded, and Crawfish App Founder Laney King says this time last year, prices were almost doubled.

King noted that after the high demand of Super Bowl weekend, prices may continue to drop as availability rises.

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest sports betting event of the year, and prop bets are a way for fans to have a little skin in the game.  Bookies.com Adam Thompson says one betting angle focuses on the national anthem, performed by New Orleans native Jon Batiste, and says you can check past performances to do some studying before placing your bet.

A Kansas City TV reporter in town covering the Super Bowl has died and Kenner Police have made an arrest. Police Chief Keith Conley says Danette Colbert was seen on a surveillance video at a Comfort Suites hotel entering Adan Manzano’s room Wednesday morning. And he says the credit card that Manzano used to check into the hotel was missing from his wallet. Investigators found it a short time later.

So far, Colbert is only charged with having Manzano’s credit card. Depending on what Manzano’s autopsy reveals, the charges could be upgraded.

Crawfish lovers gearing up for a Super Bowl weekend boil can expect lower prices than anticipated. Following a historic snowstorm, supply has rebounded, driving prices down by more than a dollar per pound. Crawfish App Founder Laney King says live crawfish on average will run you $4.79 per pound.

A second stain of bird flu has been detected in dairy cows in Nevada. Until now, this strain had only been detected in wild birds and poultry. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says no cases have been found in Louisiana’s poultry industry, but officials remain vigilant.  He says wild birds and dairy herds could infect commercial birds.

The New Orleans French Quarter is filling up with football fans. Huge crowds are expected through Super Bowl Sunday. Kelly Henderson, the manager at Fat Catz Music Club on Bourbon Street, says he’s treating Super Bowl week like Mardi Gras.

Business up and down Bourbon Street are looking for this week to make up for a tough January, when they had to close due for several days to the New Year’s Day attack and the snowstorm.

Super Bowl LIX will honor New Orleans’ rich musical heritage with a lineup of artists connected to Louisiana for the pregame entertainment.

Two boys were making their way home after a late-night visit to a friend when Shreveport police say Jeffrey Reed offered them a ride but allegedly took the boys aged 13 and 14, to a motel, held them there, displayed pornographic images, and attempted to sexually assault them. Officers captured Reed but had to use a taser when he resisted. He has been charged with simple kidnapping, indecent behavior with a juvenile, and false imprisonment.

This year the bird flu has resulted in fewer chickens that can lay eggs leading to a significant increase in egg prices. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says it’s going to take some time to restock poultry houses and vaccinate the hens…

While no cases have been found in Louisiana’s poultry industry, officials remain vigilant. Earlier this year, a Southwest Louisiana man died from bird flu. He reportedly had pre-existing health conditions.

As New Orleans hosts Super Bowl LXI, the city and Louisiana’s music will definitely flavor the pre-game activities. Jon Batiste will sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful will be performed by Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty who says they are blending his and Daigle’s signature styles…

This is Kansas City’s fifth appearance in the Super Bowl in the last six year and there is certainly K-C Fatigue as the Chiefs look to make history with a threepeat victory. Safety Justin Reid from Dutchtown High School in Ascension Parish says he likes playing the villain in this game…

For the Philadelphia Eagles, former Amite star, Devonta Smith said if they continue to play the way they have been, they should be successful.

Shreveport police arrested a man after he offered two boys aged 13 and 14 a ride home but instead allegedly took them to a motel on Greenwood Road, held them there, and attempted to sexually assault them. Officers captured Jeffrey Reed but had to use a taser when he resisted. Reed was transported to a local hospital for injuries he received during the arrest.

Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the good news is that the virus has not yet been detected in Louisiana’s commercial poultry operations.

A man in southwest Louisiana died earlier this year from the bird flu. He was infected with the same strain of bird flu detected in cattle in Nevada.

Businesses along Bourbon Street are gearing up for a huge weekend ahead of the Super Bowl. Andrew Greenstein talked with the manager of one of those businesses.
