Federal investigators are now saying the terrorist attack in the New Orleans French Quarter was not a coordinated event. The FBI says 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone when he mowed down pedestrians on Bourbon Street. FBI Bomb Technicians recovered two functionable IEDs inside coolers in the French Quarter. 15 people are confirmed dead including Jabbar. The investigation continues and New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell urges the public to assist.

After nearly a decade, Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves is departing Congress and he recently reflected on accomplishments including the Red Snapper regulation returned to the state, using technology to comply with the Privacy Act, and relieving interstate traffic coming off the Mississippi River Bridge by upgrading interstate roadways like the I-10 Washington Street exit.

In a social media post, President Elect Donald Trump said Speaker Mike Johnson is a good, hard working, religious man who will do the right thing. Johnson told News Radio 710 KEEL in Shreveport that Trump’s complete and total endorsement will certainly help his chances to be re-elected  as Speaker of the House.

Louisiana rides in the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California on New Year’s Day. And what better way to showcase the float, “Louisiana Saturday Night” than with a rendition of a song by that same title! Timothy Wayne, who’s currently studying at LSU released his version of the hit earlier this month, and he will be on the float performing that song in front of a worldwide television audience. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says it will be a very proud moment for Wayne, for LSU and for the State of Louisiana.

The Parade airs at ten a.m. on NBC and ABC and Timothy Wayne will be featured in the first hour.

Fireworks are part of many New Year’s celebrations and a recent study by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission shows that fireworks-related injuries are on the rise across the U.S. Nick Heinen with the State Fire Marshall’s office says only buy fireworks from certified fireworks retailers.

A weekend deer hunt turned deadly for a 61-year-old Baton Rouge man. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says Roberto Garcia was fatally shot in the Sandy Hollow Wildlife Management Area near Kentwood Saturday when another hunter shot at a deer. Garcia was behind the deer but the shooter said he did not see him because of vegetation. LDWF is handling the investigation.

Mike Johnson just got a huge boost in his quest to retain the speaker’s gavel. President elect, Donald Trump has endorsed Johnson to return as Speaker of the House in the 119th Congress. With Republicans holding a very slim majority, it will take a unified G-O-P caucus to agree on a speaker. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says Trump’s endorsement is intended to achieve that.

In a post on social media, Trump says Johnson would provide immediate relief from all the destructive policies of the last administration. LSU political science professor Robert Hogan says Trump’s endorsement is a 180 of sorts.

Lafourche Parish joins the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area. The parish was previously excluded from the Atchafalaya Basin due to an oversight when the Heritage Area was established in 2006; this inclusion rectifies that. No matter where in the state you are, you will want to be weather aware tomorrow. LSU Public Health climatologist Barry Keim says a cold front is coming through, and that’s going to bring heavy rains.

LSU is getting a big name and some experience back at linebacker next season. Junior linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. announced he’s coming back to LSU for the 2025 season. Perkins, who has 13 career sacks, and 164 tackles announced his return on Instagram. In the 2024 season opener against USC, he led LSU in tackles but tore his ACL in the game again UCLA and only played 4 games in the 2024 season.

For the sixth time in the program’s history, Louisiana Tech will play in the Independence Bowl. The Bulldogs will battle 22nd ranked Army at 8:15 on Saturday night. The Black Knights are led by quarterback Bryson Dailey, who finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy voting. Tech Coach Sonny Cumbie says not only does Army have a great quarterback, but their offensive line is outstanding…

Looking ahead to her second year in office, Attorney General Liz Murrill says she would like to focus on the fentanyl crisis and she’s borrowing an idea Arizona’s Democratic attorney general and appointing a fentanyl opioid specialist to help decide how to spend opioid settlement money.

A 13-year-old boy Kentwood boy was hit by an SUV and killed while riding a bicycle on a dark country roadway in Tangipahoa Parish. State Police say Benjamin Mixon and another boy highway 1061 at around 6:30 yesterday evening when he was hit from behind. State Police Trooper Marc Gremillion (GREM-ee-on) says there was no way the driver could have seen the two boys until it was too late.

He adds the bikes had no lights and the boys were wearing dark colored clothing.

A 13-year-old boy from Kentwood was hit and killed while riding a bicycle on a dark country highway in Tangipahoa Parish. State Police Trooper Marc Gremillion (GREM-ee-on) says Benjamin Mixon was hit from behind by an SUV while he and another boy were riding on State Highway 1061 at around 6:30 yesterday evening. Gremillion says there was no way the driver could have seen the two boys until it was too late.

Also, Gremillion says neither bike had any lights on it. The SUV was traveling at 55 miles per hour and there was no roadway shoulder at the site.

Murrill says it’s an idea that the office of Arizona’s Democratic attorney general is implementing.

The whole state of Louisiana can expect rain and possibly some severe weather as a cold front comes through Saturday.  LSU Public Health climatologist Barry Keim says those in the northern and eastern portions of the state should also be prepared for the potential of tornadoes.
