According to a statewide poll, President Trump’s favorable rating in Louisiana is 48-percent, while Governor Jeff Landry’s is 39-percent. 26 percent said the state is heading in the right direction, 54-percent say it’s heading in the wrong direction. John Couvillon with JMC Analytics says the poll was conducted last week and the federal government shutdown probably played a role in the responses.

After years of films being shot overseas, President of Film Louisiana, Jason Waggenpack says production is trending back to the U.S. and Louisiana is the perfect spot.

Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier has been arrested, and the FBI says part of the evidence leading to his arrest involving illegal sports betting came from a game played in the Smoothie King against the Pelicans when he was with the Charlotte Hornets. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tish says Rozier took himself out of the game after under 10 minutes. The Pelicans won the defendants bets placed on the “unders” of his prop bets paid out tens of thousands of dollars.

Nick Chabarria with Triple-A says this is the time of year when gas prices typically start to come down and he says gas prices have remained relatively low this year – not just in Louisiana but all across the country.

Nine-year-old Aaliyah Robinson and five-year-old Danielle Spearman were hospitalized in critical condition and family members had to make the difficult decision to take them off life support. Shreveport Mayor Pro Tem Tabatha Taylor has a stern message for whomever was responsible for this house fire.

Nine-year-old Aaliyah Robinson and five-year-old Danielle Spearman died after being taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese says while the fire is being investigated as arson.

Two young girls died from their injuries in a house fire that authorities are investigating as arson. Firefighters pulled nine-year-old Aaliyah Robinson and five-year-old Danielle Spearman from the burning home and after being hospitalized in critical condition, family members made the difficult decision to take them off life support. Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese says investigators are still looking for specific details.

A 17-year-old from Monroe was killed by lightning while he was hunting alone in Union Parish over the weekend. Investigators say Colton Honeycutt was inside an elevated deer stand in a remote wooded area Saturday when a storm came through, and a bolt of lightning hit him. Sheriff Dusty Gates says the sheriff’s department was notified about what happened when he was found by family members who went out to look for him.

He says the remote area was difficult to reach.

Two people were shot, and Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon was grazed by a bullet Thursday in Pierre Part. One victim, a neighbor of the suspect, was found wounded in a front yard when Falcon with a responding deputy arrived on scene on Bayou Drive. The sheriff confronted the suspect behind a house nearby and the suspect opened fire grazing the Sheriff. The suspect was then shot. Both the first victim and the suspect were transported to hospitals. Authorities say Sheriff Falcon is okay. State Police are investigating and say Falcon did not fire at the suspect.

As special legislative session to push back 2026 election schedules will begin next week. The Supreme Court considering the constitutionality of the creation of the state’s second majority Black congressional district. La Politics dot com Publisher Jeremy Alford notes that if the calendar is not altered, the state could be forced to use the current map for the 2026 election cycle even if the Supreme Court strikes it down.

The number of standardized tests high school sophomores must take is being reduced from 6 to 4 next school year. Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley says the two English and two math tests currently required are being consolidated into one each.

Brumley says students must pass the English and math tests, and either the biology or the civics test to graduate.

After a pair of shootings on campus last weekend, LSU announced security enhancements for the rest of the football season. One of those shootings stemmed from an unsanctioned event at Unity Field near the intersection of Highland Road and South Stadium Drive, is where most of the school’s Black fraternity members tailgate. Interim President Matt Lee says that venue is now off-limits and denies that race has anything to do with the decision.

LSU plays in Nashville this weekend and the defense will be challenged facing Vanderbilt’s number-seven scoring offense. Coach Brian Kelly says the Tigers’ defense has to play disciplined throughout the entire game.

High school sophomores will soon have fewer standardized tests to take at the end of the school year. Starting in the 2026-27 school year, the number of standardized tests they will take will go down from six to four. State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley says it’s one less thing that those students will have to worry about.
