New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell has been charged by the State Ethics Board for violating state ethics law by improperly taking 15 first-class flights over two years.  2 international flights and 13 domestic flights were the subject of weeks of controversy pressuring Cantrell to reimburse the City of New Orleans $28,856 around a year ago. The Ethics Adjudicatory Board will likely hear the case and could censure or fine Cantrell up to $10,000.

Louisiana native Lainey Wilson won five CMA awards last night tying a record set by Johnny Cash in 1969. Among her awards… Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, and Album of the Year. The 31-year-old from Baskin thanked all the female country artists who came before her and the ones alongside her…

Louisiana Native Lanie Wilson was a big winner in The Country Music Awards that aired on ABC last night! Wilson’s win in five categories in one year ties the record first set by Johnny Cash in 1969. The 31-year-old from Baskin led the competition with nine nominations and recalled how significant her ninth year was as a child.

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow has introduced bipartisan legislation to increase access to childcare for small businesses. Letlow says the Childcare Small Business Insight and Improvement Act would require the U.S. Small Business Administration to conduct a study on the needs and challenges of for-profit childcare providers and identify resources. Since the pandemic, Letlow says many working mothers had to leave the workforce.

With an anticipated low voter turnout of less than 15 percent for the November 18th election, early voting indicates turnout might actually be slightly higher than anticipated. And John Tobler with the Secretary of State’s Office expects turnout to increase on Election Day.

A junior high school student has been arrested in St. Tammany Parish. St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says the arrest of the 14 year old Madisonville Area Junior High School Student was made after a fellow student reported to school personnel the existence of a Hit List, allegedly created by the 14 year old. The school then notified the Sheriff’s Office. The Student was issued a summons Tuesday for Menacing and was released to a parent on a custodial agreement to appear in court.

Smoke from a marsh fire in New Orleans East led to another deadly multiple vehicle wreck this morning on Interstate 10 near the Michoud exit.  Christopher Bannan, a meteorologist with National Weather Service says the smoke was mixed with fog which made for very low visibility…

An adult male was pronounced dead in the wreck and at least eight people were injured. Officials say there were four crashes involving 13 vehicles.

 

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow is co-authoring legislation to provide rural communities with grants to upgrade their police and fire departments. Letlow says it’s time to step up and help our first responders in small towns.

Centenary College in Shreveport announces it’s raising $50 million dollars to improve the four-year liberal arts school ahead of its bicentennial anniversary in 2025. Centenary spokesperson Kate Pedrotty says 20 million dollars will fund new infrastructure and upgrades to the School of Health Sciences – Mickle Hall.

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow is co-authoring legislation to provide rural communities with grants to upgrade their police and fire departments. Many rural facilities are still operating out of facilities built in the 1980s and with a small tax base Letlow says they are unable to adequately fund any upgrades.

Centenary College in Shreveport announces it’s raising $50 million dollars to improve the four-year liberal arts school ahead of its bicentennial anniversary in 2025. Centenary spokesperson Kate Pedrotty says the college has already raised $37 million of the $50 million campaign goal. She says the campaign will also support endowed scholarship expansion and is a major component of operational support.

Homer Police are not responding to calls as the Homer Police Chief has been arrested and booked for aggravated battery and malfeasance in office. After a complaint to the Claiborne Parish DA’s office and a lengthy investigation, the by state police, Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations procured a warrant for the arrest of Chief Elvan “Van” McDaniel. McDaniel is accused of using excessive force by deploying a taser multiple time on a non-combative subject while the subject was lying on the ground with his hands cuffed behind his back. The alleged incident occurred during HPD’s response to a reported theft in December of last year. While the investigation continues, Claiborne Parish Sheriff’s Office will handle calls for service in the Homer area.

 

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was taken out of the game after taking a brutal hit from Alabama linebacker Dallas Turner. Head coach Brian Kelly says Turner was flagged for roughing the passer during the game, but not targeting when his helmet came into contact with Daniels’s chin.

Triple A Fuel Analyst Don Redman says the price for crude is around $82 a barrel, down by almost $10 a barrel from a month ago. He says the the ongoing invasion of Ukraine and Israel adds uncertainty but the current outlook for the markets remains stable short-term.

Public information officer, Trooper Ryan Davis says shots were fired at the end of a foot chase when the subject produced a handgun. The subject was struck and pronounced dead at a local trauma center Trooper Davis says the scene is no longer active but the investigation is ongoing.

You are starting to see gas prices for regular gasoline below three dollars a gallon again. The statewide average price for a gallon of regular gas is $2.97, dipping 30 cents lower than a month ago. Triple A Fuel Analyst Don Redman says it’s a direct reflection of a drop in demand.
