A big development in the lawsuit against Louisiana’s current Congressional District map. A panel of the U-S Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals is ordering state legislators to draw a new Congressional map by January 15th. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this is a difficult assignment as a new legislature is sworn in on January 8th….

I-55 Should be open in both directions sometime next week but DOTD says there will be a complete shutdown of both lanes of I-55 Southbound near Ponchatoula on Sunday morning around 6 AM. Drivers will need to detour at exit 22 but can rejoin the interstate at Ruddock. Northbound I-55 remains closed until complete barrier rail repair and road striping is completed. All lanes in both directions are expected to be open sometime next week.

 

New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell is in Kenya 4 days ahead of the UN Meetings on plastics pollution. Meanwhile back home, the State Ethics Board has brought her up on charges for those 15 flight upgrades over a 2 year period costing the city almost $29,000. Cantrell has said that her upgrades were a matter of safety not luxury. The Ethics Adjudicatory Board is likely to hear the case but Alford says, Even if Cantrell is fined, we will have to wait and see…

November is National Pet Cancer Awareness Month and the Veterinary Cancer Society estimates one in four dogs will develop cancer at some point. Ginger Guttner with LSU School of Veterinary Medicine says nearly 50 percent of dogs over age 10 will develop cancer.  She urges pet owners to keep an eye out for warning signs.

Other possible signs of cancer include enlarged or changing lumps and rapid weight loss.

The Natchitoches Sheriff’s Office have made an arrest in the March murder of Mark Hailey owner of Fat Daddy’s Crawfish in Shreveport. After an 8 month investigation multiple search warrants and analysis of forensic evidence, NPSO announced they arrested 35 year old Patrick D Howard of Natchitoches for Principle to 1st Degree Murder. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Louisiana Congresswoman Julia Letlow has introduced bipartisan legislation to increase access to childcare for small businesses. As a single mother herself, she says the Childcare Small Business Insight and Improvement Act will help parents across the country.

Louisiana Native Lanie Wilson was a big winner in The Country Music Awards that aired on ABC last night! Wilson’s win in five categories in one year ties the record first set by Johnny Cash in 1969. The 31-year-old from Baskin led the competition with nine nominations and recalled how significant her ninth year was as a child.

A junior high school student has been arrested in St. Tammany Parish. St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says the arrest of the 14 year old Madisonville Area Junior High School Student was made after a fellow student reported to school personnel the existence of a Hit List, allegedly created by the 14 year old. The school then notified the Sheriff’s Office. The Student was issued a summons Tuesday for Menacing and was released to a parent on a custodial agreement to appear in court.

 

Smoke from a marsh fire in New Orleans East led to another deadly multiple vehicle wreck this morning on Interstate 10.  Christopher Bannan, a meteorologist with National Weather Service says we could see identical conditions tonight and probably again tomorrow night…
