California will face off against Texas Tech in the Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl in Shreveport on December 16th.  Bowl spokesperson Erik Evenson says it’s their first power-five match-up since 2016 and the game will be a three-hour commercial for Shreveport-Bossier City.

Gov. John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards will honor Louisiana Veterans this evening at the 3rd annual US Armed Forces Memorial Grove Lighting Ceremony in Louisiana Veterans Memorial Park. Retired Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Joseph Bleich is hearing the Caddo Parish Sheriff Candidate John Nickelson’s lawsuit challenging the result of the November election. He’s asked the attorneys for both candidates to provide more written evidence. Political analyst Scott Hughes says Henry Whitehorn believes he’s the undisputed winner, but Nickelson’s attorneys believe they’ve uncovered some questionable ballots…

Today is World AIDS Day and Louisiana has seen some improvement in new cases of HIV in the state. According to The Louisiana Department of Health, Since 2018, the Bayou State has seen an 11% decrease in those living with HIV. There’s still work to do as 22,920 Louisianans are HIV positive.

Louisiana residents can now request an “Autism Spectrum Disorder” or a “Needs Accommodation” automobile decal to indicate to law enforcement that an individual has a disability. They are available through the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles at no cost. Spokesperson Matthew Boudreaux says the decal is a positive move.

Reese made 9 of 16 free throws against the Hokies which contributed to Coach Kim Mulkey’s 700th career victory. Mulkey feels Reese’s return was good for Reese, the team, and Tiger Nation.

The incoming Louisiana Legislature will have until January 30th to redraw the state’s congressional map to include a second majority-minority district since a federal judge granted them a two-week extension. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this still presents a number of challenges for new lawmakers whose decisions may put their own seat at risk, and they’ll have to figure out how many voters are needed to create a new district.

Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain says he’ll ask lawmakers next year to approve 43 million dollars for new firefighting equipment and personnel after the state’s worst wildfire season in history. Strain says he has prioritized a list of equipment.

After the worst wildfire season in Louisiana history, Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain says he’ll ask lawmakers next year to approve 43 million dollars for new firefighting equipment and personnel and Strain says funding is critical in preparing for possible wildfires in the future. He says forestry-made bulldozers will also help crews to fight wildfires efficiently.

A federal judge has extended the deadline for redrawing Louisiana’s congressional map. The new incoming legislature will have until January 30th. From the Caesar’s Superdome Wednesday, Governor-elect Jeff Landry announced the next superintendent of State Police when he takes office in January will be Major Robert Hodges, a 28-year veteran of LSP and a New Orleans native will be the state’s leading law enforcement agency. The governor-elect says he will bring in as much of a law enforcement presence into the city as necessary to keep the entire city safe…

Reports filed in the 3rd District Court say 23 year old Jacoby Johnson confessed to the stabbings on the Campus of Louisiana Tech earlier this month that killed one and injured three others. La Tech Police arrested Johnson 4 minutes after receiving a 911 call then transported him to a local hospital. Johnson confessed to La Tech Assistant Police Chief Bill Davis while he was being treated for a cut, saying he snapped under pressure and stress of school work, became angry and wanted to attack people. Johnson said if he had not been caught he would have continued to attack others. He has been held without bond since his arrest on November 13. A sanity hearing for Johnson’s mental capacity is scheduled for January 23.

If you want to see the world’s tallest Christmas tree structure, just make your way toward north Louisiana to DeSoto Parish which now holds the world record with its 300-foot-tall tree structure. Sheriff Jayson Richardson says the tree is lit from 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm every night. He says hundreds of people have already come to Stonewall to see the light setup.

Tis the Season… for firing of Head Football coaches. The latest to fall is Grambling State’s Hue Jackson — fired after only two seasons. Grambling lost to Southern in the Bayou Classic and finished the 2023 season 5-6. During Jackson’s 2 years his record is 8 and 14. He served two years of his four-year one point six million dollar contract that paid him $400,000 a year. Grambling will reportedly pay the remaining portion of Jackson’s salary over the current fiscal year.

A unanimous guilty verdict for 18 year old John Honore. Surveillance video showed Honore pulling Linda Frickey out of her vehicle in mid-city New Orleans in March of 2022 and beating her. Then car speeding away in her car, dragging Frickey and severing her arm in the brutal death.  The defense argued that Honore did not intend to kill Frickey. Frickey’s sister in law Kathy Richard says the murder was intentional and Honore could have made different choices.
