The Coast Guard and other authorities are still searching for the source of an oil pipeline leak in the Gulf of Mexico off the Louisiana coast. The Coast Guard initially reported 12 thousand gallons of oil was in the water but pipeline gauges show 1.1 million gallons of oil is missing and may have been discharged into the Gulf. The pipeline has been shut down but authorities are looking for the source.

The Rolling Stones are coming to Jazz Fest Thursday, May 2nd and Jazz Fest will be the second stop on their US tour promoting their new album, Hackney Diamonds.

After kicking off in Houston they’ll roll over to Crescent City. Times-Picayune and NOLA.com music writer Keith Spera says The Stones obviously want to play Jazz Fest, even after being rebooked several times before…

It’s time to start defrosting that frozen turkey if you want it ready for Thanksgiving Day. The Department of Agriculture wants to encourage food safety tips to prevent dangerous foodborne illnesses. When it comes to defrosting your turkey, USDA Food Safety Expert Meredith Carothers recommends that you do so in the refrigerator, never leave it out to thaw on the kitchen counter.

Prices at the pump are considerably lower than they were this time last year. According to Triple A fuel analyst Don Redman the statewide average for a gallon of regular gas today is $2.85.

The Department of Agriculture wants you to use safe cooking practices this Thanksgiving and the USA doesn’t recommend stuffing a turkey due to the increased risk of cross-contamination. A stuffed turkey also takes longer to cook.

But if you decide to stuff your turkey, USDA Safety Expert Meredith Carothers suggests placing the turkey in the oven right away especially when using hot stuffing.

Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards met with Governor Elect Jeff Landry and future First Lady Sharon Landry at the Governor’s mansion Monday. Edwards has said a smooth transition is important to him and said he and Donna were happy to meet with the Landry’s as they prepare to take on their demanding roles. Landry expressed appreciation for the Edwards’ willingness to help with a smooth transition.

A shooting in Sulphur resulted in the death of a male Sunday night. Around 11 PM, Sulphur police responded to complaints about a weapon being fired by someone in a silver vehicle near a business on Ruth St. SPD encountered subjects standing around a vehicle in a residential driveway matching the description given. During the interaction, one of the subjects was shot by a police officer and was transported to a local hospital where he later died. No officers were harmed in the incident. State police are investigating at the request of Sulphur Police Department.

Three of the four teens charged in the 2022 carjacking death of 73-year-old Linda Frickey of Westwego have reached a plea deal that’s resulted in them receiving a 20-year prison sentence. Legal analyst Dane Ciolino says this is a good result for everyone…

On Saturday night, Republican candidates, John Fleming, Nancy Landry and Liz Murrill won their races for treasurer, secretary of state, and attorney general. Political Analyst Bernie Pinsonat says the Democratic Party will have very little influence on state government over the next four years…

In the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s race, a single vote gave Democrat Henry Whitehorn a victory over Republican John Nickelson. Political analyst Scott Hughes says they knew it would be a close race in the politically divided parish. Hughes says hand ballots that were perhaps torn or in which both candidates received votes will be re-examined, and then the race will be certified. In the primary, ironically in Caddo Parish, Hughes says there was a recount for a legislative race that came down a 32-vote difference. That recount found an additional three votes, but it didn’t change the outcome of that race.

Three of the four teens charged in the 2022 carjacking death of 73-year-old Linda Frickey of Westwego have reached a plea deal that’s resulted in them receiving a 20-year prison sentence. 18-year-old John Honore is still set for trial as jury selection is underway in the case. Legal analyst Dane Ciolino says while Honore’s three co-defendants plead guilty to manslaughter charges, Honore could be convicted of a murder…

Fishing in Sportsman’s Paradise is changing. New Size and daily catch limits go into effect today for speckled trout in Louisiana waterways. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries biologist Jason Adriance says the new rules are needed because the popular fish is overfished.

Minimum size limit has been increased from 12 to 13 inches, while daily creel limit drops from 25 to 15 fish per angler.

In spite of this week’s rain, we’re still in a drought. Since August 1st State Climatologist Barry Keim says Louisiana has received 6-point-four inches of rain, but 15-point-seven inches would be considered normal for that time period. He says that’s only about 40 percent of the normal rainfall amount.

the Cincinnati Bengal will be without former LSU Quarterback Joe Burrow for the rest of the season. Burrow was visibly shaken by his inability to grip the football after a second quarter injury sidelined him in Thursday night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens. Burrow was ruled out for the game due to what was believed to be a wrist sprain. It is now known Burrow suffered a torn ligament.

Despite the rain this week, the latest drought monitor indicates 99 percent of the Bayou State is still in drought and 88-percent is either in extreme or exceptional drought. Which state climatologist says are the worst two classes of drought.

Three statewide races will be decided Saturday in the run-off for Attorney General, Secretary of State, and Treasurer. After a voter turnout of only 36 percent in the October primary, political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says it could be even lower for the runoff. He says Republicans are favored to win all three.

Louisiana Highway Safety Commission Click it or ticket campaign runs November 18 through the Thanksgiving weekend. An LHSC report found at least 55 percent of adults killed in a vehicle crash in the Bayou State last year were not properly wearing their seat belts. Spokesperson Greg Fischer says a first offense for not wearing a seatbelt is $50 and $75 for repeat offenders. He says their latest observational survey found fewer than 15-percent of people in Louisiana go unbuckled…

Last year During Thanksgiving weekend, there were 10 fatalities and more than 100 accidents with serious injuries.

Governor-elect Jeff Landry has concerns about the potential cost of Louisiana’s new policy that allows state workers who welcome a new child to receive six weeks of paid leave. The state has 70-thousand employees and the benefit begins January 1st. Landry questions whether the state can afford it…

Term-limited Governor John Bel Edwards says his transition out of office is going as planned. As he prepares to turn over power to Louisiana’s 57th governor, Edwards says his team is prepared to hand over the reins to Landry’s administration.

Governor-Elect Jeff Landry has set aside five thousand tickets for the public to attend the inaugural ball on January 8. The black-tie ball will be held at the Raising Canes River Center in Baton Rouge. Landry says he wants to give Louisianans the opportunity to be a part of a memorable occasion.

Landry will be inaugurated as Louisiana’s 57th governor. The ball is set to begin at 7 pm.

 

The Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium Renovation at ULL has been talked about for more than a decade and as work begins next month, the west side of the stadium is expected to be ready for the 2025 season. Athletic department spokesperson Evan Roberts says that means limited seating for the 2024 season…

Saturday is Election Day. On the ballot are 3 run off s and four constitutional amendments. The runoffs include Republican John Fleming and Democrat Dustin Granger for Treasurer, Democrat Lindsey Cheek and Republican Liz Murill for Attorney General, and Democrat “Gwen” Collins-Greenup and Republican Nancy Landry for Secretary of State. There are also four constitutional amendments to be decided.

Saturday is Election Day and among the statewide races is the run-off for Treasurer. Republican John Fleming, says his combined experience as a family physician, business owner, former member of Congress, and tenure in the Trump administration make the better choice for the office. He says the role of the treasurer is to protect taxpayers’ money.

His opponent is Democrat Dustin Granger, a small business owner and financial advisor. He says he’s the better choice because of his financial background and that he wants to put Louisiana residents first instead of businesses. Granger says for too long, Louisiana has cut investments in people, health, education, and infrastructure…

Road Work begins on the bridge deck today impacting the right lane that was closed in October after crews found extensive damage to the bridge deck while conducting other repair work.
