A Bastrop man is facing attempted murder and aggravated arson after he allegedly set a house on fire with several people inside following a domestic dispute. 34-year-old Broderick Lee was arrested Wednesday. Police say he was involved in a domestic dispute Tuesday evening and an hour later firefighters found the exterior of the home on fire. The flames were quickly extinguished and the three adult occupants were able to escape safely.

According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, one in six women and 1 in 33 men are victims, of rape or an attempted rape in their lifetime. New Orleans Representative Delisha Boyd wants health insurers to provide mental health coverage for victims. She says no matter their age, rape victims deserve mental health services and when the perpetrator is someone, they trust it’s another layer of difficulty.

BESE has removed the requirement for high school seniors to complete FAFSA in order to graduate. The new policy goes into effect next school year. The board believes requiring a student to apply for federal aid for college is an unnecessary burden on parents. And BESE President Ronnie Morris says some families do not want to give out their tax and income information.

AAA is rolling out new technology that will cause an alert to automatically update motorists when the tow truck arrives at the location to help the stranded driver. Spokesperson Don Redman says this gives motorists more time to slow down or move over. And provides a safeguard for those responding to provide assistance to stranded motorists.

Following a carjacking in Lafayette which resulted in the stolen vehicle slamming into a police vehicle in Acadia Parish, a suspect fled from the vehicle and a foot pursuit began. Lafayette Police Lieutenant Jace Quebedeaux says officers arrested a male teen. And following the search of the vehicle.

Quebedeaux says no officers were injured in the pursuit. Police are looking for a second unknown male suspect.

Two juveniles and two adults were taken into custody yesterday for their roles in the fatal drive by shooting of a 65-year-old Lake Charles woman and the search continues for one more person. Calcasieu Parish Sheriff-elect Stitch Guillory says a 17-year-old stole the vehicle used in the drive by shooting from a family member. He says 18-year-old Jordan Jones of Lake Charles was firing the weapon and he’s been charged with second-degree murder…

Guillory says they also arrested 36-year-old Chelsea Hyatt of Sulphur because her daughter was in the vehicle and she never reported it to law enforcement. The search continues for 25-year-old Tyler Lewis of Bridge City, Texas.

Governor Jeff Landry has signed an executive order issuing a disaster declaration for the crawfish aquaculture industry. Louisiana Congressman Troy Carter says the declaration will allow for crawfish farmers to access disaster loans through the Small Business Administration. Vermilion Parish crawfish farmer Connor Popeck decided it was not worth the effort to flood his field

One juvenile male has been arrested and another suspect is on the run following a carjacking which slammed into a police vehicle in Lafayette on Tuesday. Lafayette Police Lieutenant Jace Quebedeaux says the carjacking happened when the victim was returning home.

After his sister in Texas was poisoned by her soon-to-be ex-husband who used an abortion-inducing medication and was only sentenced to 180 days in Texas, Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly is introducing legislation to change that in Louisiana. He says people who do something like this should be held accountable.

Representative Dixon McMakin says more people are live streaming criminal behavior from minor misdemeanors to serious felonies for attention and gratification. And he says those who record criminal behavior to become famous should be held responsible.

Governor Landry signed several bills today approved in the crime special session including the permit-less conceal carry bill which will go into effect on July 4th. The New Orleans Police Department has expressed concerns this law will make it more difficult on law enforcement as they try to reduce gun violence. But Landy disagrees and says 27 other states have similar laws.

The three month long regular legislative session begins next week, and Blake Miguez pre-filed a bill that will clarify that it will be legal to conceal carry a firearm in a restaurant that serves alcohol. He says the bill prohibits concealed carry in bars where more than 50 percent of its sale is alcohol.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking for help finding 30-year-old Sara Jacy Saucier. Saucier allegedly scammed at least 15 residents of the Creek’s Apartment Complex in Hammond while she worked there. Authorities say in an email, Saucier offered to provide residents with a letter from a licensed psychologist declaring their pet an emotional support animal for a fee. Investigators say Saucier provided letters that she signed herself.

New Iberia Senator Blake Miguez has pre-filed legislation for the regular session to clarify that it will be legal to conceal carry a firearm in a restaurant that serves alcohol. The Republican lawmaker says this bill gives gun owners the ability to protect themselves.

A bill that would allow the Department of Child and Family Services to restrict the purchase of unhealthy foods with SNAP benefits has been filed. Jennings Representative Troy Romero says the bill has the support of Governor Landry along with DCFS Secretary David Matlock and he says other states have implemented similar legislation.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office are looking for 30-year-old Sara Jacy Saucier because they say she scammed at least 15 residents of the Creek’s Apartment Complex in Hammond while she worked there. Authorities say Saucier sent emails to residents reminding them to pay pet deposits then allegedly followed up with an email offering to provide them with a letter from a psychologist declaring their pet an emotional support animal for a fee. Investigators say Saucier signed the letters herself.

New Iberia Senator Blake Miguez has pre-filed legislation for the regular session to clarify that it will be legal to conceal carry a firearm in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Miguez says the measure aims to make sure there’s an even set of rules for all gun owners.

One of the new laws expands Louisiana’s death penalty methods and seals the records of how the state obtains drugs to carry out a lethal injection. Landry says this legislation will allow the state to re-start executions and this should serve as a deterrent to prevent brutal murders…

State Police are searching for a White Castle man who is still missing following a single vehicle crash after the vehicle went into Bayou Lafourche in Assumption Parish on Saturday. Trooper Ross Brennan says a Grand Marquis driven by 64 year old Gilbert Bunch Junior traveled off the roadway after failing to stop for a stop sign. He says multiple agencies have searched for Bunch in Bayou Lafourche.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office says a woman fatally stabbed a twice convicted sex offender at a Lacombe are laundromat on Sunday afternoon. Lt. Suzanne Carboni says 40-year Nicholas Tranchat tried to attack the woman with a sharp weapon

A 65-year-old woman was killed in a drive-by shooting in Calcasieu Parish Saturday night when a bullet traveled through her home striking her inside. Annette Touvell of Lake Charles was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead. Authorities do not believe Touvell, or her family were specifically targeted. A woman was able to fight off an alleged attack by a twice convicted sex offender at a laundromat near Lacombe Sunday. St Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Lt. Suzanne Carboni says the woman fatally stabbed her alleged attacker, 40-year-old Nicholas Tranchet. She says the woman fled to a family member’s home and called police. Tranchet was unresponsive when authorities arrived and later died from his injuries at a local hospital. Carboni praised the female victim’s actions.

Bills to codify the right to contraception in Louisiana have been filed for the upcoming legislative session. Public Policy Professional Mary Patricia Wray says House Bill 395 and Senate Bill 225 seek to secure the right to birth control for Louisianans.

A Carencro High School Student was killed Friday. 18-year-old Jaylon Joiner was shot while getting off the bus. Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson, Valerie Ponseti says 19-year-old Malikai Doucet has been arrested and charged with second degree murder.

President and CEO of Central Louisiana Jim Clinton says while many companies tend to set up distribution hubs along Interstates 10 and 20, they are beginning to see breakthroughs in the past year with Lowes and now Amazon for Central Louisiana. Louisiana Central along with the Boyce Chamber of Commerce will share hiring information for Amazon on their website and social media pages when it becomes available.
