Multiple agencies including the FBI and the National Bureau of Investigation are working the case of the horrific kidnapping and murder of three-year-old girl Erin Brunett from Loranger. 36-year-old Daniel Callahan allegedly killed her mother Callie Brunett and abducted her, and her 6-year-old sister Jalie then fled to Jackson, Mississippi. Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade says they believe the crime scene is possibly linked to human trafficking and they want to know why Callahan brought the young girls to Jackson.

An alleged accomplice, 32-year-old Victoria Cox has also been arrested.

Distracted driving continues to be a safety concern in Louisiana. Dashcam footage of a June 10 accident in Slidell seems to show an SUV driver distracted by dogs in the vehicle crash into a motorcycle Fortunately, the motorcyclist escaped with minor injuries.

The FBI is now the lead agency in the horrific kidnapping and murder of a three-year-old girl from Loranger. Erin Brunett and her 6-year-old sister Jalie were taken from their home by 36-year-old Daniel Callahan, who allegedly killed their mother Callie Brunett, and took them to Jackson, Mississippi. It now appears Callahan had an accomplice. 32-year-old Victoria Cox has been arrested in connection with the case. While detectives work the scene, Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade… questions why Callahan brought them to Mississippi.

Jackson TV Station WLBT reports that Callhan’s last known address was Lincoln County and that he has a previous criminal record which includes sexual battery.

 

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards expressed frustration over the Amber Alert issued for the girls Thursday. He says the alert issued by Louisiana State Police came three hours after it was requested Thursday morning.

 

 

While Governor Jeff Landry accomplished many of his goals in the first regular legislative session of his term, he was not able to gain enough support for the constitutional convention he wanted. Political analyst, Bernie Pinsonat says the only way he believes it would happen is if the Governor can drum up enough public support to pressure the Senate to go along with the House and call the convention.

After months of legal disputes, preparatory work on the Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion is set to resume. Houma Representative Jerome Zerengue (rhymes with merengue) says the diversion, which would redirect some of the Mississippi’s sediment-heavy water into a new channel and guide it into the Barataria Basin, has years of research behind it.

An Amber Alert has been issued for two missing girls whose mother was found murdered inside their home. Trooper William Huggins with State Police says the two girls were abducted from a home in Loranger before 8 AM this morning. LSP issued the Amber Alert on behalf of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office.

An unknown white male is wanted for questioning for the domestic incident and the abduction. Huggins says he’s believed to be driving a black 2012 Chrysler 200 with a missing back right hubcap. Louisiana license plate 859 GML.

A mother was found slain and an Amber Alert has been issued for two young girls missing from Loranger. Authorities say 4-year-old Erin Brunett and 6-year-old Jalie Brunett were abducted before eight o’clock Thursday morning during a domestic violence incident in which authorities say their mother 35-year-old Callie Brunett was “brutally murdered” in her home in the 56000 block of  N. Cooper Road. Tangipahoa sheriff’s office is looking for an unknown white male driving a black 2012 Chrysler 200 with a Louisiana license plate bearing 859GML and missing the hubcap on the back right tire with possible damage to the rear of the vehicle. Colorado State University researchers have confirmed predictions of an above-average hurricane season this year in an updated report. CSU meteorologist Phil Klotzbach (clots-bock) says while it’s important to stay hurricane-ready, it’s just as important to remember these predictions could over- or underestimate the actual number of hurricanes.

In an updated report, Colorado State University researchers are predicting 11 hurricanes this season with 5 major hurricanes. CSU meteorologist Phil Klotzbach (clots-bock) says the prediction is based on several factors including record rise in ocean temperature and an untimely appearance of La Niña, which decreases wind shear that could potentially break up hurricanes.

Another bill recently signed by Governor Landry aims to curb the state’s pet overpopulation. The bill allows the Pet Overpopulation Advisory Council to sell commemorative pet stamps with the proceeds supporting spay and neuter programs around the state. The stamps cost a minimum of $15 and will be decorative, not used for postage. The Humane Society of Louisiana says the obvious selling point is that the proceeds go to programs that reduce the burgeoning pet overpopulation.
