Tiger fans in Omaha won their first Jell-o Shot Challenge and the real winner is LSU’s food pantry.  LSU Campus Life spokesperson Alison Paz says Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina will be sending them a $60-thousand donation.

LSU fans in Omaha consumed a record 68,888 Jell-O shots.

The federal government has awarded Louisiana 1.36 billion dollars for the expansion of affordable, reliable high-speed internet service for businesses and residents. Connect LA Executive Director Veneeth Iyengar says the state has also appropriated $10 million to the community college system to build a workforce that can bring high-speed internet to every area of the state…

The state Democratic Party officially endorses former DOTD secretary Shawn Wilson as their candidate in the 2023 governor’s race. ULM political science professor Pearson Cross says it’s usually the Republican Party that issues endorsements in an effort to unite party members to support one candidate.

Culinary chefs from across the state heat it up with their best seafood dish at the 16th annual Louisiana Seafood Cook-Off today. Teiko Foxx has more.

And the final results are in for the Jell-O Shot challenge at Rocco’s Pizza and Cantina in Omaha. LSU fans purchased a whopping 68,888 Jell-O shots, a record I expect will be hard to top. The manager at Rocco’s says the contest helped raise money for university food panties, so LSU’s Food Pantry is expected to receive 60-thousand dollars.

The head of the New Orleans 9-1-1 emergency system is stepping down after an accident in his taxpayer-provided car. Tyrell Morris failed to submit to a required drug and alcohol screening after the May 7th crash. Morris issued a statement that he needed to work on his mental health.

A project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers designed to lower the risk of flooding by elevating homes along the coast of Southwest Louisiana has already received $300 million dollars in funding…

News of the Supreme Court of the United States lifting of a hold on Louisiana’s Congressional map case makes it highly likely the map will be redrawn to have two black-majority-district instead of one. Public Service Commissioner Davante Lewis was among the voters who sued the state because the map was not indicative of the state’s 33-percent Black population.

An excessive heat warning has been issued this week as Louisiana is dealing with its first lengthy heatwave of the summer. LRN Meteorologist John Wetherbee says heat-related issues can develop quickly when heat indices get this high.

The Supreme Court has lifted a hold placed on Louisiana congressional maps thus opening the door for the maps to be redrawn. The order means lower court proceedings on the case can continue. The Court of Appeals Fifth Circuit will rule if the maps need to be redrawn to add a second majority-black district. The Supreme Court of the United States’ decision to return the issue to the lower court is on the heels of a 5-4 ruling that Alabama’s congressional maps must be redrawn.

The Tigers say yesterday’s thrashing in game two of the college world series championship round, is behind them and they are ready for game three tonight at 6pm.  Centerfielder Dylan Crews says following the final out in Sunday’s loss, they moved on to today’s game…

Senator Bill Cassidy, Southwest Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins, and Democratic lawmakers from New Jersey have filed legislation they say will make flood insurance affordable again. Cassidy says flood insurance is a necessity in south Louisiana and it has become unaffordable…

The legislation would provide vouchers to low- and moderate-income homeowners if their premiums become too expensive.

Legislation to create a crime prevention district in and around LSU’s campus has been signed by the governor. Bill author, Baton Rouge Representative Barbara Freiberg says the district goes to a vote and once favorable a board will be appointed, and board members decide how security will be implemented.

Governor Edwards signed legislation banning the use of the social media app Tik Tok on any state-owned devices and state-owned or leased WIFI networks. Marksville Representative Daryl Deshotel, the bill’s author believes similar apps will continue to be a cyber security concern

Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin has proclaimed this Saturday, June 24th as “LSU Baseball Day” in honor of the Tigers baseball team making it to the C-W-S. Ardoin says he wanted to formally honor the team and he’s going to place a wager on the series with Florida’s Secretary of State Cory Byrd.

After 11 innings the LSU Tigers won in dramatic fashion last night beating Wake Forest two nothing to advance to the championship round of the College World Series. After a Dylan Crews base hit in the 11th inning, Tommy White slugged a two-run shot over the left field wall. White says he was waiting on a fastball.

Saturday, June 24th has been declared “LSU Baseball Day.”  Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin made it official with a proclamation in honor of the Tigers baseball team making it to the championship round of the Men’s College World Series. After winning in extra innings last night, Ardoin says he wanted to formally honor the team.

Ardoin is also encouraging residents to dress in purple and gold to show their support.

Governor John Bel Edwards signed into law legislation that bans the use of the popular video-sharing app TikTok on government-issued devices and networks. Bill author Marksville Representative Daryl Deshotel says it’s a security issue and this policy has already been implemented by many agencies statewide.

And a bill to ban corporal punishment in public schools unless there is written consent from the parents has been signed into law. Metairie Representative Stephanie Hilferty says some lawmakers, however, wanted their schools to have the option to use corporal punishment or not in schools.

Authorities have confirmed the heat-related death of 62-year-old Tina Perritt of Keithville, who was without power for an extended period. SWEPCO spokesperson Doug Warner says more than 4,000 workers have responded to the widespread outages from last Thursday’s storms.

The small village of Simsboro in Lincoln Parish is in shock after learning the Ardagh Glass Packaging Plant will close next month. The plant’s 245 employees were told Wednesday and Simsboro Mayor Sybil Smalling-Foster says news of the closure is a complete surprise.

The NCAA has placed LSU on three years probation for alleged recruiting violations involving the men’s basketball program and former head coach Will Wade. The football program is also on three years probation because of impermissible benefits given to the family of former offensive lineman Vadal Alexander. The school is also forced to vacate 37 victories that took place from 2012 to 2016.
