At an excavation site in the Kisatchie National Forest in Vernon Parish, UL-Lafayette researchers have found rare artifacts dating back to the last Ice Age. Professor of Anthropology Dr. Mark says evidence that suggests that a bow and arrow they uncovered was used by nomadic groups who occupied the land 13,000 years ago.

Louisiana Republican Senator Bill Cassidy is working with New Jersey Democrat Senator Bob Menendez in reforming the flood insurance program and cap premium increases. Cassidy expects there will be a hearing soon in DC on their legislation.

Shreveport Police held a briefing Tuesday after a lengthy standoff Monday that ended with what authorities believe is the suspect’s charred remains found inside a Crook Creek home. Police Chief Wayne Smith says among the shooting victims was a 13-year-old girl who was hiding in the home. Smith praised the three officers who entered the home amid gunfire to save her.

Names of those involved have not been released and the teen and a neighbor who was also shot are expected to make a full recovery.

Natchitoches Police are asking for help in locating 19-year-old Matthew Robinson. Robinson is the suspected gunman in the shooting death of 35-year-old Michael Porter. The incident happened early Tuesday morning at Motel 6 on the Highway 1 Bypass. Robinson faces second-degree murder charges.

The state health department is reporting Louisiana’s first two human cases of West Nile Virus for 2023. State Health Officer Dr. Joe Kanter says mosquito pools are present and cases have been discovered in two parishes across the state.

Last year, Louisiana had 41 West Nile cases and seven deaths.

School and athletic events are required to have an AED thanks to a bill from Baton Rouge Senator Cleo Fields. He says he’d been working on the “Jump Start Your Heart” legislation prior to the collapse of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin in January during the Cincinnati Bengals game. He says the incident only highlighted the need for AEDs and CPR training.

Cities across the state and country have been plagued recently with the fad of drag racing and stunt gatherings. Spectators have been hurt as a result. Baton Rouge police cracked down on street racers over the weekend… impounding more than two dozen muscle cars and issuing about 30 citations. Getting their vehicles back is going to put a dent in the street racers’ wallets says BRPD’s Sgt. L’Jean McKneely…:

St. Tammany Parish Deputies have arrested 25-year-old Malik Morris of Memphis for allegedly burglarizing five restaurants in the Covington area. Spokesperson Suzanne Carboni says after a brief pursuit, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

Morris was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center.

The tax break for parents who send their children to private schools will increase to $6,000 from the current $5,000. The current deduction costs the state about $22-millon annually and will increase to $24.2 million next year. Pineville Senator Jay Luneau questioned bill author Laurie Schlegel on how the increase will impact the state budget.

The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested 26-year-old Lorenzo Green for the alleged murder of his girlfriend 25-year-old Radayish King of St. Francisville. King was found dead in her vehicle near the intersection of Highways 61 and 421 Sunday morning.

LSU makes history as for the first time two players from the same school are the first two picks in the Major League Baseball draft.  Jeff Palermo has the story….
