Former Governor Edwin Edwards has been admitted to the hospital again this time with double pneumonia, according to his wife Trina’s Facebook post. 93-year old Edwards spent the weekend in the hospital and was discharged Sunday after he experiences breathing difficulties. He tested negative for COVID and pneumonia over the weekend.

Fourth district Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson has been elected as vice-chairman of the House Republican Conference. Jim Shannon has the story….

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy supports President Trump’s legal challenges in several states over the result of the November 3rd election. Some are concerned Trump is creating a disadvantage for President-elect Joe Biden, but Cassidy says the former Vice President is receiving intelligence briefings and the election legal battle will not interrupt the distribution of COVID vaccines once they are available.

Luke Wake an attorney with the Pacific Legal Foundation, says the state legislature enacted laws giving landlord’s the right to evict tenants for nonpayment and allowing the CDC to issue the moratorium, is a separation of powers issue.

State and local officials in southwest Louisiana have broken ground on a 152-million-dollar project to widen Interstate 10 from the Texas State line to I-210. Governor John Bel Edwards says crews will expand 10.5 miles of I-10 from four to six lanes alleviating congestion in this area.

The state health department reported 26-hundred new COVID-19 cases today and the number of coronavirus patients in the hospital rose to 874. That’s a 121-patient increase in just four days. Governor John Bel Edwards is asking residents to follow the mitigation measures in order to reduce transmission of the virus…

On Monday a second pharmaceutical company announced an above 90 percent effectiveness rate on their COVID vaccine. Associate Professor at Tulane’s School of Medicine Dr. Lisa Morici says she’s cautiously optimistic as we are still waiting on safety and efficacy rates from a larger number of clinical trial participants, so far data that’s been submitted is from approximately 100 participants that have been assessed.

Carnival season 2020 was noted as a super spreader event in New Orleans before the pandemic was declared and because of that Mayor of New Orleans spokesperson Beau Tidwell says Mardi Gras, 2021 is going to feel different.

The current guidelines of no gatherings over 250-people will not permit parades or balls next year.

On Monday Moderna released news that their COVID vaccine has a 95 percent effectiveness rate, in addition to Pfizer’s with a 90-percent reported rate.  Associate Professor at Tulane’s School of Medicine Dr. Lisa Morici said the FDA indicated the benchmark for success would be a 50-percent efficacy rate for vaccinations in stage three trials.
