The sales tax holiday in Louisiana is underway, today and tomorrow, the first 25-hundred on most purchases are exempted from the 4.45-percent state sales tax. NFIB State Director Dawn Starns says the legislature acting to revive the sales tax holiday this year is a win-win for consumers and businesses.

The exemption applies to in-store as well online and by phone purchases. Meals, rentals, and vehicles are excluded from the sales tax holiday.

Baton Rouge Physician Chris Thomas urges citizens to take COVID seriously and follow mitigation measures. Thomas, an ICU physician at Our Lady of the Lakes hospital has not only been treating patients he contracted the virus as well. Thomas calls on everyone to act as a healthcare provider, step up and do their part, which includes doing what’s in the best interest of others even when it’s most difficult.

The Tigers are set to play at Arkansas tomorrow, but there have been positive cases within the Razorback football program. Freshman quarterback TJ Finley is expected to get the start for LSU. Starns says with the holidays approaching and a tough year for Louisiana businesses the sales tax holiday the weekend before traditional Black Friday, could not have come at a better time.

A family spokesperson for Edwin Edwards says the former four term-Governor appears to be improving but remains hospitalized with double pneumonia. Edwards’ biographer Leo Honeycutt says despite Edwards’ age of 93 and diagnosis he’s doing well.

Honeycutt says doctors told him if Edwards continues to improve he could be released as early as this weekend.

LSU interim president Thomas Galligan released a statement today saying its troubling to face the prospect LSU may have mishandled alleged cases of abuse and sexual assault. It’s in response to a USA Today article that provided several examples of LSU not following through on social misconduct allegations.

Drug maker Pfizer reportedly plans to file as early as tomorrow for emergency use with the FDA for their COVID-19 vaccine. Governor John Bel Edwards says he’s 100-percent confident once vaccines are FDA approved, they are safe for use.

The governor is optimistic that the state will begin to receive an allotment before the end of the year, healthcare workers and those in congregate setting such as nursing homes will be vaccinated first.

Edwards’ biographer Leo Honeycutt says Edwards says is expected to stay in the hospital into the weekend.

Nelson says there are some who will not like paying higher property taxes, but under his proposal, parishes would not have to fight for state dollars in order to fund local projects, because they would receive more revenue from higher property taxes. And he says you would not pay state income taxes
