In addition to first-degree murder, jail records indicate Beaux Cormier, Andrew Eskine and Dalvin Wilson are each facing one count of criminal conspiracy to commit murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder. Cormier is also facing a solicitation for murder hire charge.

According to the latest numbers from the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the state added 37-hundred jobs from November to December. One-point-nine million people were employed in December, but that’s down 83-thousand jobs from December 2019. The unemployment rate in December was just below seven percent.

The Biden’s administration announced Tuesday a 5% increase in the number of vaccine doses to be distributed to states. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Oyster Program Manager Carolina Bourque (Caro-leena Bork) says this was a tough pill to swallow for fishermen who were already dealing with losses stemming from the Mississippi River Flood in 2019.

Preliminary figures from the LSU Center for Analytics and Research indicate the number of motorcycle fatalities in Louisiana dropped 20-percent in 2020. Motorcycle Awareness Campaign spokesperson Scotty Drake believes the pandemic is a factor.

Drake says MAC was created about 15 years ago by a group of riders in Baton Rouge who wanted to reduce the number of motorcycle fatalities and increase awareness. He says while they’ve like to take credit for the 20-percent reduction they believe fewer motorists on the road was the main reason.

Drake says while fewer cars and trucks were on the road last year, he believes the same amount or more of motorcyclists took to the roads in 2020.

Officials are investigating a mysterious oyster die-off in Plaquemines Parish waters that farmers say has claimed millions of pounds of oysters.

The Biden’s administration announced Tuesday a 5% increase in the number of vaccine doses to be distributed to states, which is a 22% increase since Biden took office. Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health Dr. Courtney Philips testified Tuesday before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on COVID Vaccines, she says Louisiana is prepared.

Phillips thanked the committee for giving states the flexibility the work with private partners, CVS and Walmart, to vaccinate nursing home residents and staff.

According to the CDC Louisiana currently ranks 14th in the percentage of vaccines that have been administered.  Phillips says the ranking would be higher because it includes second doses that are being held back so recipients can receive the maximum protection from the virus.

The LSU men’s basketball team will face the tenth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on the road in Tuscaloosa today. The Tigers lost by 30 points to Bama a few weeks back as they gave up 105 points and allowed Alabama to hit an SEC-record 23 three-pointers.  Head Coach Will Wade says they need to be better on transition defense.

He says the Biden Administration’s moratorium on new leases in the Gulf of Mexico is very concerning.

A woman’s body found in the woods Sunday in Bastrop is being investigated as a homicide. Bastrop Interim Police Chief Anthony Evans says they are not releasing the name of the victim pending next of kin notification. The body has been sent to Little Rock for an autopsy.

Economic indicators show the state is recovering quicker than first predicted from the pandemic.  LSU Economist Dr. Loren Scott says they compared unemployment numbers from April of 2020 to the latest numbers in December and unemployment has recovered by 69%.

All three are charged with two counts each of first-degree murder. Bond is set at $2 million each, but that could change.

Many students are behind the curve due to the pandemic and the State Department of Education hopes to reverse that with a new statewide tutoring program.

Superintendent of Education Cade Brumley says the Accelerate program focuses on bolstering the math and English language arts education they already receive in regular class hours.

The program focuses on K-8th grade education with plans to expand to K-12 in time.

Brumley says the program utilizes funds given to the state through the CARES Act and opens up opportunities for kids to have their education supplemented virtually, opening up new options.

Participating school systems will have select teachers participate over the spring in 24 lessons designed to teach them how to use the program to help catch up lagging students.

While Hurricanes Laura and Delta devastated southwest Louisiana, residents affected by Hurricane Zeta can also apply for Federal Disaster Assistance.  Homeowners and renters in southeast Louisiana should apply for assistance as soon as possible. Investigators say Beaux Cormier hired two men to murder his niece that accused him of rape. But they killed Beaux’s sister Brittany Cormier and her neighbor Hope Nettleton. Waitz says he’ll ask the victim’s family how to proceed.

The Ragin Cajuns took two games from Texas State last week to move into first place in the Sun Belt West Division.
