With crude oil prices at their highest level in seven years, gas prices aren’t the only things fuel-related being impacted by the 80-dollar a barrel price.  LSU Professor David Dismukes says winter heating bills in Louisiana are expected to be impacted negatively.

Dismukes, who is Executive Director of LSU’s Center for Energy Studies, says the rising price of crude pushes the price of natural gas up and thus the cost of power generation in the state.

Almost a month and a half after Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana travel trailers are finally beginning to roll into the state. Houma Representative Tanner Magee has been extremely vocal about the delay and says he’s relieved for those who are so desperately needing shelter.

Louisiana State Police are stunned by the killing of one of their own during a deadly chaotic shooting rampage carried out by a suspect now in custody. More from Dave Brannen.

Alexandria Police have arrested a 35-year old woman and a 17-year old male from Texas in connection with the shooting death of 40-year old Lakelia Purvis of Alexandria. The shooting happened around 12:30 Sunday afternoon. Both suspects are charged with second-degree murder and are in custody.

As a search was on for a man wanted for shootings in multiple parishes on Saturday, it went unnoticed for 15 hours that State Trooper Adam Gaubert was dead in his patrol car in Ascension Parish. It’s believed 31-year-old Matthew Mire gunned down Gaubert during a shooting rampage. LSP Colonel Lamar Davis hopes new technology the agency is looking to implement can prevent a similar unfortunate situation in the future…

Planned changes are underway to keep Louisiana State Police more aware of any possible danger a trooper may be in, as was the case for Master Trooper Adam Gaubert who was killed during a multi-parish shooting spree over the weekend.  Colonel Lamar Davis says the agency is working to implement a computer-aided dispatch system.

The state’s Commissioner of Administration says a deal is in the works that could keep the Saints in New Orleans and the Superdome for some time. Jay Dardenne says Saints & Pelicans owner Gayle Benson has made a long-term commitment to having the Saints in the Superdome and has set up a trust to assure that happens even after she passes…

The Saints’ current agreement with the state expires in 2025. Dardenne anticipates it will be extended to 2055.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and this year women might notice when they have their annual screening they are asked when and which arm they received their COVID vaccine. Ochsner Health Radiologist Dr. Maverick LeBlanc says the reason being your lymph nodes could swell under your arm and impact your mammogram results.

A 31-year-old man accused of killing a State Trooper and a woman in separate shootings on Saturday in Ascension parish is in police custody. It’s believed Matthew Mire also shot at another Trooper and shot and injured two people inside a Livingston Parish home during a multi-parish shooting rampage. Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre says they don’t have a motive…

The Trooper fatally shot has been identified as Adam Gaubert, who was found dead in his patrol car in Prairieville 12 hours after the suspected shooting.

The LSU Tigers are now 3-and-3 after suffering a blowout loss in Kentucky. Quarterback Max Johnson is not happy with the team’s record…

The Tigers host 20th ranked Florida this Saturday and LSU is a double-digit underdog.

The owner of the seven nursing homes that evacuated more than 800 residents to a Tangipahoa Parish warehouse before Hurricane Ida is trying to get his nursing home licenses back. Bob Dean’s attorney John McLindon says it could take months for Dean to possibly regain the licenses for his seven facilities…

McLindon says in the meantime his client has had to lay off several employees and for others, he continues to pay their salaries despite no income.

LA Politics publisher Jeremy Alford says there’s talk that Democrat Gary Chambers could jump in the Senate race against John Kennedy. Political newcomer and commercial pilot, Luke Mixon of Baton Rouge, announced last week his decision to run. Alford says Chambers has some notable backing should he decide to seek Kennedy’s Capitol Hill seat.

Luke Mixon announced his candidacy for US Senate last week, the seat held by John Kennedy. LA Politics.com publisher Jeremy Alford says Democrat Gary Chambers might jump in the race, but he doubts any big-name Republicans will announce a bid to unseat Kennedy.

A third suspect was arrested this morning in a Lafayette Parish homicide from September 30th. Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s detectives say 58-year-old Mitchell Lemaire is charged with first-degree murder of Cecil Gray. The victim’s burnt remains were found in the 300 block of Burbank Road.

After a multi-parish shooting spree, two are dead and three are critically injured. State Police say 31-year-old Matthew Mire is now in custody after Saturday shootings in Ascension, Livingston, and East Baton Rouge Parishes. Colonel Lamar Davis says one of the fatalities is LSP Master Trooper, Adam Gaubert.

Gaubert’s body was found inside his patrol car Saturday evening near Dutton Road in Ascension Parish approximately 12 hours after an earlier shooting happened in the area involving the suspect.  The length of time it took to discover Gaubert’s body is under investigation.

Mire is believed to have shot and injured two people in Livingston Parish, then shot and killed his relative Pamela Adair and injured her significant other in Ascension Parish. Another trooper was also fired upon in the shooting spree that left the trooper’s vehicle bullet-ridden

Shortly after 10 PM Saturday when Mire was apprehended in the Hoo Sooo Too Road area. Ascension Parish, Sheriff Bobby Webre said they still don’t know what motived the suspect to go on a shooting rampage.

According to The Advocate Mire had been staying with his mother since his girlfriend died of an overdose.

Webre says Mire abandoned a stolen vehicle and took off on foot.  Mire was reportedly taken into custody without incident in the area along the Ascension and East Baton Rouge parish line after law enforcement swarmed the area. Mire sustained injuries from a K-9 bite and a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound to his leg.

Mire was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries and charges include First Degree Murder of a Police Officer and Attempted First Degree Murder of a Police Officer.

The field of contenders for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Kennedy is expected to get a little more crowded in the near future.  LA Politics publisher Jeremy Alford says there’s talk that Democrat Gary Chambers could announce his intentions soon and that he’s not an unknown in political circles.

Political newcomer and commercial pilot, Luke Mixon of Baton Rouge, announced last week his decision to run against Kennedy next year.

While Mixon says he has political operatives working with him on his campaign, Alford says Chambers has some notable backing too should he decide to seek Kennedy’s Capitol Hill seat.

Alford doubts any big-name Republicans will announce a bid to unseat Kennedy next year.

Bob Dean’s attorney John McLindon says they’ve filed an appeal with the Division of Administrative Law trying to have the licenses restored.

McLindon says the Louisiana Department of Health had issues with what happened after the evacuation and not the evacuation plan itself. He says what happened afterward happened in other areas impacted by the hurricanes.

As for when he expects his client to possibly regain the licenses for his seven facilities, McLindon says he expects it could take months.

Jameis Winston threw four touchdown passes and the defense forced two turnovers as New Orleans defeated the Washington Football Team 33-22.  Alvin Kamara also had a big day, 122 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

This Sunday at 8. pm Animal Planet will be airing Louisiana Law: In The Eye Of Hurricane Ida which takes a look at what wildlife agents did to assist storm victims. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries press secretary Ed Pratt says in one instance a family was dealing with extensive damage to their home, and while not wishing to be rescued, they did ask for something so simple as a broom for cleanup purposes.

And October is breast cancer awareness month. Ochsner Health Radiologist Maverick LeBlanc says the most patients have returned to their getting their annual mammograms and even though some cancers grow faster than others it’s always best to have annual screenings, so radiologists can compare your previous screenings and he highly encourages women to return to regular screenings if they haven’t already.

Annual mammograms are recommended for women over the age of 40 but LeBlanc says no matter your age if you notice anything out of the ordinary to contact your physician.

Scammers have been filing false hurricane Ida claims with FEMA in hopes to make money off of unsuspecting strangers. FEMA spokesperson Nate Custer says these scammers need to know that local authorities are looking into their efforts to rip FEMA off and cause problems for actual Ida victims.

Scammers are filing false Ida claims with FEMA on homes in the state in an effort to collect money. FEMA spokesperson Nate Custer says they send out inspectors to check on claims and when they knock on the door some homeowners tell them they’ve never filed with the agency.
