Baton Rouge Police have taken one of the two women who were allegedly with Georgia businessman Nathan Millard the night he died into custody. 27-year-old Tiffany Guidry was taken apprehended this morning, for prostitution, failure to seek assistance and unlawful disposal of human remains. 33-year-old Tabbetha Barner remains at large.

LSU continues its run through the NCAA Women’s basketball tournament as the Lady Tigers take on Utah today.

The Bayou State could be in for some dicey weather today as a frontal system, winding itself up in Texas and Oklahoma, moves east. LRN Meteorologist John Wetherbee says while it crosses the state, we’ll need to remain weather-aware today.

Crawfish connoisseurs will be happy to know the average price per pound of live mudbugs are 25 cents lower at $2.77. Crawfish App co-founder Laney King says the industry dropped prices this week which brings the average price for a pound of boiled crawfish to $4.98.

Covington Representative Paul Hollis says the number of signatures should not be based on a percentage of registered voters…

Baton Rouge Police are searching for a Florida man who was last seen Wednesday morning around 12:45. Sgt L’Jean McKneely says 44-year-old Jody Bert was traveling back home with his family after visiting relatives in Oklahoma, became ill, and stopped for the night.

On the U-S Senate floor today Louisiana senator Bill Cassidy urged President Biden to meet with a bipartisan group to address social security. Cassidy says the Social Security Trust Fund will go insolvent in nine years, resulting in an automatic 24-percent benefit cut.

Baton Rouge Police are searching for 44-year-old Jody Bert from Florida who went missing after parking his car when he and his family stopped for the night traveling back from Oklahoma. Sgt. L’Jean McNeely says Bert went missing early Wednesday morning from the downtown area and detectives are reviewing camera footage.

The National Association of Auto Dealers and the Urban League of Louisiana will unveil a pilot automotive technician apprenticeship program today – that will train and hire minority men and women to become licensed auto technicians. L-A-D-A’s President, Will Green says there’s a need for auto mechanics across the country.

Twelve trainees will attend Delgado Community College in New Orleans and nine trainees will attend Baton Rouge Community College in Baton Rouge. Green says incorporating diversity and inclusion was at the forefront and candidates have already started orientation and skill-building classes.

The program is funded by a grant through the NADA foundation and the local Automobiles Dealer in Louisiana. Congressman Troy Carter also helped to secure federal funding to support this initiative. Green says they are excited about building valuable skills and creating opportunities.

The dealership plans to hire students once the apprenticeship is complete.

The Department of Transportation has extended the public comment period for the upcoming widening of Interstate 10 through Baton Rouge. DOTD spokesman Rodney Mallett says the new deadline is this Sunday, March 26th…:

I-10 through Baton Rouge is considered by many to be the worst Interstate bottleneck in the U.S.; especially where the I-10 Bridge eastbound off-ramps meet with the main highway. The plan calls for an eventual 4 lanes of traffic in each direction, but the 5-year project will require a lot of lane closures. Mallett says He is aware that some mistakenly believe the highway will be reduced to only ONE lane in places…:

Mallett says they are now giving the public additional time to make their thoughts or concerns on the project known. He says, to do that, simply visit the special website “I10Br.com” which has all the project information…:

Governor Edwards officially unveiled the website Wednesday and among his favorite features is the dashboard, which Wright says features an interactive map.

Projects include improving roads and bridges, delivering broadband internet to underserved communities, addressing pollution, and the state’s climate action plan.

Wright says it’s important that residents are aware of projects that are already being implemented and those to come as part of the Infrastructure Act since its passage in November 2021.

U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy grilled Health and Human Services leaders during a Senate Finance Committee hearing about how many full-time workers are present at headquarters on any given workday. Louisiana’s senior senator referred to a photo of an empty parking lot as he questioned HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra.

During the pandemic, federal workers were given the option to work remotely. Cassidy however said for many industries best practice is for employees to return to the job site. Cassidy asked what percentage of the 90,000 employees at HHS have returned to the office.

When Becerra was unable to provide a percentage of employees who’ve returned to the office, Cassidy asked if the agency was still monitoring VPN data that would indicate if employees were accessing their email or not.

The Pelicans say All-Star forward Zion Williamson has been cleared to return to on-court activities as he continues to make his way back from a right hamstring strain. The team’s medical officials will re-evaluate Williamson in two weeks. With ten games left in the regular season, Coach Willie Greene says it remains to be seen if Zion will play again this season…

Williamson has not played in a game since January 2nd and he’s missed 35 games. Zion re-aggravated the injury in mid-February.

Injuries to key players have resulted in the Pelicans fighting for a playoff spot in the final ten games of the season. New Orleans is a half-a-game back from tenth place in the Western Conference, which is the last spot for the play-in tournament. Green says the injuries have been frustrating, but they have a chance at making the postseason

Governor John Bel’s Office determined there was an insufficient number of signatures submitted by NOLATOYA to force a recall election. Mayor Cantrell says she is grateful to the community that supported her through this, and this speedbump is now in the rearview mirror…

Early childhood educators in Louisiana are receiving active shooter training this week. Institute for Childhood Preparedness Director Andrew Roszak says they provided training in 2019 in Louisiana, and they’ve received positive feedback from individuals who’ve completed the course.

A shelter-in-place was ordered and all lanes of Interstate ten leading to the Calcasieu River Bridge were shut down this morning as a result of a chlorine leak from Bio Lab in Westlake. State Police Sergeant James Anderson says multiple agencies responded…

UNO political science professor Ed Chervenak says missing signatures, incorrect birthdates, or if the signee wasn’t a registered New Orleans voter can disqualify signatures. He says it was up to the NOLATOYA group to assure the names were legitimate.

Louisiana lawmakers would receive a $43,000 pay bump if Gretna Representative Joseph Marino’s bill passes. The current salary for legislators has been $16,800 for four decades. A new conservation funding initiative – known as the Louisiana Outdoors Forever Program – providing matching resources to governmental agencies and municipalities is currently taking pre-applications. The recall effort to oust New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell failed to gather enough certified signatures. Governor Edwards announced the news after receiving only 27,000 certified signatures when 45,000 were needed from the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Office today. Approximately 40,0000 of the signatures collected from a petition drive were deemed ineligible because there were not from qualified electors in the parish.

Gretna Representative Joseph Marino has filed a bill to increase lawmakers to $60,000 annually which is a $43,000 raise. He says it’s a part-time job that not everyone can fiscally perform due to the demands of the job and there aren’t many jobs out there that would let them leave for several months and return to work.

If passed the pay raise would go into effect in January 2024.

State lawmakers told leaders of the state Office of Motor Vehicles about the complaints they are receiving from their districts about the department. Pollock Representative Gage Firment says he’s hearing from his constituents about the lack of customer service at his local office…

Among the complaints are that some offices still require appointments that went into effect during the pandemic even thought that policy has been cancelled.

Governor Edwards issued a statement after receiving documents from the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters Office this morning.
