Governor Edwards and Louisiana Ag Commissioner Mike Strain will start a listening tour across several rural communities today.  The tour will allow members of the agricultural community an opportunity to ask questions and to discuss their concerns.  Strain says they want to know the challenges farmers face…

Strain says it’s important he and Governor Edwards get in front of the farmers throughout the Bayou State and address their concerns since they are a large part of our economy…

Last year, the Governor and Strain traveled to Cuba on a trade mission, seeking greater economic and cultural exchanges.  Louisiana has ranked first in trade with Cuba for several years.  Strain says in order to serve countries better, he hopes to get a lot of input on what is needed at home to further expand international trade…

Black Friday is next week and retailers are gearing up for a busy shopping season. An October survey from Deloitte found that online holiday shopping is expected to beat in-store sales for the first time. But LSU Marketing Professor Dan Rice says brick and mortar stores can be still very profitable and retailers will do what they can to get shoppers into their stores.

Rice expects this year to be better for Louisiana retailers, especially in south Louisiana. Many consumers didn’t spend as much during the holidays, because they were recovering from the historic flooding.

Rice says big corporate stores like Wal-Mart and Best Buy opened up some Black Friday deals at the end of October. But he says other retailers like REI or Ikea, have decided not to open on Thanksgiving to impress consumers with their family values and encourage them to shop during other times of the season.

U.S. Senator John Kennedy has written an op-ed piece to the Washington Examiner entitled “Please stop having children you aren’t willing to raise.”  In the piece, Kennedy implores parents that if they are drug users or if the child would be born to a fatherless house, to think twice about bringing lives into the world…

Kennedy says too many parents are failing their children these says in Louisiana. He says thousands of children are in the state’ foster care system and those who fail to find a good foster care home end up struggling in life…

Kennedy says we launch public awareness campaigns to encourage people to recycle their soft drink cans, stop smoking and wear seat belts. He says maybe we need to launch campaigns to encourage people to raise their children…

If you are wanting to know if the flu bug has invaded your neighborhood, a new phone app called Sickweather has been designed with you in mind.  Founder and CEO Graham Dodge says they use the public’s help to track when there’s an outbreak of various illnesses from the common cold to the flu…

Dodge says the app can be valuable in helping determine what symptoms you have or maybe why you are feeling a little under the weather…

Dodge says the app will alert you when you are entering an area where there’s been a large of number of verified illnesses reported.  He cites an example of a mother who did just that.  The app reported that Strep Throat was in her area.  Dodge says the value of the app became apparent the next day…

The app is currently available on Google Play and the Apple store for free.

Brady Hoke will serve as the interim head coach when Tennessee hosts 21st ranked LSU this Saturday. Hoke replaces the fired Butch Jones, who was dismissed after an embarrassing 50-17 loss to Missouri. LSU Coach Ed Orgeron knows what its like to take over a team midseason and he expects a great effort from Tennessee

For the third time this year, LSU linebacker Devin White has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. The sophomore from Springhill, Louisiana had 14 tackles in the Tigers 33-10 win over Arkansas. Orgeron says White has been a big leader on and off the field

White leads the SEC in total tackles with 103. The former North Webster High School standout gives a lot credit to defensive coordinator Dave Aranda…
