Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is directing insurance agents to notify Louisiana Citizens policyholders of the possibility they could find coverage with a private insurer. Donelon says SafePoint Insurance Company identified over 19 thousand Citizens policies that could be switched over to a private insurer.
But Donelon says out of those 19 thousand Citizens policies, agents have only authorized fewer than eight thousand for depopulation out of Citizens. The insurance commissioner is concerned agents may be putting their own interests ahead of their policyholders.
Citizens policyholders who could be taken out of Citizens should have received a notice by mail. Donelon says thousands of policyholders may be missing out on significant savings by getting out of Citizens.
Cut 9 (11) “…your agent”

Louisiana Tech President Dr. Les Guice will retire at the end of the year, after serving the institution for 45 years, the last 10 as president. Guice’s journey to the president’s office began as a student at La Tech.
Cut 10 (12) “…we’re measured.”
He says his retirement plans include traveling with his wife and visiting his sons in Texas.
Guice has overseen several partnerships with private businesses that now have research facilities that also offer employment opportunities for students.
He says the school’s Institute for Micromanufacturing is setting the groundwork for a microchip plant to be built in North Louisiana and La Tech is the first institution in the state to offer a cybersecurity degree.
Among the biggest challenges Guice faced as president was the 2019 tornado that destroyed several buildings on campus.
As a result, he says the student body is stronger and more engaged than ever and the freshman class is the largest in the school’s history.
With three months left in his presidency, Guice says he’ll oversee the design and fundraising for future facilities on campus and recruit more partnerships for the La Tech Research Institute in Bossier City.

Since the Vietnam War, Patrick says there are 45 Louisiana servicemen who were missing but have been accounted for but there are 1,143 that are still missing. Under the POW/MIA Accounting Agency, Patrick says they are looking for missing personnel as far back as WWII.
Most recently Patrick says the remains of Pearl Harbor Sailor and New Orleans native Clarence Thompson were identified after laying in a mass grave for more than 80 years.
Patrick says the display at the state capitol has several items and an information key that tells the story of those who were POWs or MIAs.
