Three days before he was shot 21-year-old Caldwell told his parents that his roommate, 27-year-old John McIntosh, threatened him with a gun. Attorney Johnathan Cox says they want to know if Campus Advantage ran a background check on McIntosh for the safety of Caldwell and other residents at the complex.
The lawsuit is seeking damages, funeral expenses and has requested a trial by jury. Cox says Caldwell and his parents asked for help and failure to act resulted in his death.
Laird resigned from his coaching position and NSU canceled the remainder of the football season after Caldwell’s death.
The Caldwell family is represented by Daniel Williams & Associates and the Cox Pradia Law Firm.
