According to the CDC, Louisiana is among the top seven states with high flu activity. They singled the Bayou state out as having VERY High activity.  State health officer, Dr. Joe Kanter says Louisiana often leads the nation’s flu cases…

Kanter encourages everyone over six months of age to protect themselves with the flu vaccine, especially older adults and anyone who is immunocompromised. Kanter says they are safe and you should get the shot before the holidays. He says they are available and affordable typically with no co-pay…

Kanter says Flu seasons are unpredictable, often with more than one peak. Hospitals are very busy at this time of year and not where you want to be. Prevention is best but if you do get the flu, Kanter says for your health and the health of others, Stay home…

You can expect to pay five dollars less for a Turkey feast for 10 this year compared to last year. Avery Davidson with the Louisiana Farm Bureau says the national average for a Turkey dinner this year for a family of 10 is around $61.00…

The average cost for dinner for Louisianans is around $59.00 for 10 person meal. He says Louisiana has the second lowest cost for turkey dinner in the country partly because a lot of ingredients are grown locally.

Overall prices are still 25-percent higher this year compared to 2019.

Davidson says sweet potatoes nationally are showing a trend up. As for the turkey itself, Davidson says the price of a 16-pound turkey is around $27 but as for other ingredients…

Starting today, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission has set new catch limits for the speckled trout from 25 to 15. The new rules are due to a decline in the overall size of the popular recreational fish. Under the new rules, Fisheries biologist Jason Adriance says there are new size and bag limits…

An LDWF report found a nearly six percent drop of 2.7 million pounds worth of female specks in stock as of 2020, compared to 6.2 million pounds from 1982 to 2009. Adriance says stock assessments revealed the overall stock has been declining and overfishing has been occurring…

Adriance says the speckled trout are losing some of their habitats due to coastal erosion and rising sea levels. He says Louisiana fishers might not like the changes but they will have to adjust.

Turkey Creek Senator Heather Cloud is disturbed by the latest episode of violent behavior by juvenile inmates at the  Monroe Swanson Center for Youth. Cloud says three of the teen offenders involved in this attempted escape and violent attack were previously held at a facility at Angola…

Cloud says another two juveniles involved, previously tried to escape a youth facility in Bunkie. The senator is upset federal judge Shelly Dick ruled Louisiana can not house juvenile offenders at Angola….

Cut 14 (11) “…come close”

The state Office of Juvenile Justice set up an area at the Louisiana State Penitentiary to house some of the state’s most violent juvenile inmates. But a lawsuit resulted in Judge Dick determining the teens were held in inhumane conditions and not receiving rehabilitative services.

Cloud says she visited the Angola facility twice while youth offenders were there and disagrees with Judge Dick’s assessment. She says a federal appeals court will hear the case on December fifth

There is a new facility for high-risk offenders under construction in Monroe. It’s scheduled to be open early next year.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels put on a show Saturday night in Tiger Stadium and tied a school record for total touchdowns as the Fighting Tigers easily defeated Georgia State 56-14. Daniels had six touchdowns passing and two rushing as he tied Joe Burrow’s record for eight total TDs. The Heisman candidate threw for 413 yards and rushed for 96. Coach Brian Kelly says you can’t stop Daniels…

Despite playing a lesser opponent, LSU’s offense didn’t take the foot off the gas pedal as they scored on their first eight drives.  Daniels says he’s determined to finish the season strong….

For Daniels, he’s certainly chasing a Heisman Trophy. He was asked after the Georgia State game if he could have dreamed of being in this situation when he made the decision to transfer to LSU…

Despite the lopsided score, Daniels played into the fourth quarter, which allowed him to boost his stats. Kelly says Daniels is a special talent and knows everyone wants to see him play…
