Biofuels are seen as critical to the country’s energy future. Cool Planet broke ground on the Alexandria facility earlier this year. The company expects to start construction on the facility in early 2016.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says a woman is under arrest on animal cruelty charges for allegedly trying to throw puppies away. They say cops were called by a witness saying they’d seen the woman, who was wearing a blue dress, commit the crime…:

Carnline says deputies responded and made contact with 31-year-old Christie Lasyone of Ball and discovered she had an outstanding contempt of court warrant on her…:

Carnline says a deputy rescued the puppies and returned them to their rightful owner. He says they have no idea why this woman was trying to dump puppies but she was arrested and charged with three counts of cruelty to animals…:

LSU Coach Les Miles is holding off on naming a starting quarterback for Saturday’s game against Florida. Miles says he’ll let Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris battle for that opportunity during practice this week. Despite only scoring seven points in a loss to Auburn, Miles believes the offense is not that far away from getting on track. He says the biggest thing they need to do is relax

Miles is also optimistic the defense can turn things around after giving up 11-hundred yards of offense in two SEC games. He says they just need to get fix some technical issues, which should produce better results

Governor Bobby Jindal is traveling the country again and today he gave a speech calling for increased funding for the US military. Jindal spoke at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. He says we need to go back to the 2011 budget proposed by former defense Secretary Robert Gates…:

The Louisiana Democratic Party is criticizing Jindal for being more concerned about issues that don’t affect taxpayers here.

The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s office says they’ve put a woman behind bars for allegedly trying to put puppies in a gas station dumpster. They say the puppies were rescued and returned to their owner and 31-year-old Christine Lasyone charged with three counts of cruelty to animals, resisting arrest and battery of an officer.

There’s another survey out by CBS News and the New York Times showing Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy leading incumbent US Senator Mary Landrieu by six percentage points…:

Covington Police have arrested two 14-year-old’s for allegedly calling 9-1-1 to falsely report someone was shooting up the school and requesting fried chicken and kool-aid be brought to William Pitcher Junior High. The alleged incident took place on the school bus and investigators traced the call to the teens. The charges include terrorizing, misuse of 911 and telephone harassment.

Even though the Tigers are off to an 0-and-2 start in SEC play, Coach Les Miles is not ready to say this is a rebuilding season. Miles says there’s still plenty of victories to be had this season, if his team can execute better…

LSU is at Florida this Saturday. Miles plans to name a starting quarterback later in the week as he’ll allow Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris compete for the job this week.

It looks like the Gators will start Jeff Driskel at quarterback this Saturday. Thats’ because true freshman Treon Harris has been suspended, because he’s been accused of sexually assaulting female student at a residence hall early Sunday morning. Harris was at the helm when Florida rallied to beat Tennessee 10 to 9 this past Saturday in Knoxville.

The Saints are headed into the bye week with a much needed win under their belts as they defeated Tampa Bay 37 to 31 in overtime. But it was a painful victoryfor New Orleans, who saw tight end Jimmy Graham leave the game with a shoulder injury. Coach Sean Payton did not offer any specifics today, but it’s been reported that Graham is suffering from a shoulder sprain. The same report said that the team doesn’t think the injury is serious. New Orleans next game is October 19th at Detroit and it’s also possible running back Mark Ingram could return to that game from a broken hand.

The Ragin Cajuns have a couple of extra days to prepare for their next opponent. U-L Lafayette’s next game is Tuesday, October 14th against Texas State. The Cajuns won their Sun Belt opener last Saturday as wide receiver Jamal Robinson came back from an injury to score two touchdowns in a 34-31 win over Georgia State.

In the latest Sports Network FCS Top 25 poll….McNeese State holds steady at number five, while Southeastern Louisiana moved up two spots to number nine.

Hicks says a witness reported Sanchez tried to get his cell phone back from the suspect…:(Hicks says they were able to identify the suspect as 18-year-old James Mills and he was booked into prison on charges of first degree murder, armed robbery and illegal use of a weapon.)

A TV station in Baton Rouge is reporting a horse fell on top of West Feliciana Parish Sheriff Austin Daniel at the Angola Prison rodeo on Sunday. They say as a result the sheriff suffered four broken ribs, a punctured lunch and a broken collarbone. A family member told the station Daniel is expected to make a full recovery, but it will take a long time.

LSU head coach Les Miles held his weekly press conference today with reporters and said the spot for starting QB is once again between Brandon Harris and Anthony Jennings but they won’t decide until later in the week who will hit the field first in Florida Saturday. Harris left the Auburn game with a boot on his foot but Miles says Brandon will practice today.

Shreveport Police says they are investigating a fatal hit and run that was reported around 5am this morning on North Market Street just north of the Highway 1 split. They say a female victim was found lying on the side of the road after witnesses said she was hit by a car. The woman is not being identified at this time.
