Charles Boustany has filed a lawsuit against author Ethan Brown and the publisher of a book claims the congressman had relationships with prostitutes in Jefferson Davis Parish. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says Boustany will have to prove Brown wrote these allegations with actual malice…:

Former longtime Alexandria Mayor Ned Randolph died Tuesday at the age of 74. Randolph served 5 terms as mayor from 1986-2006 and in recent years had be battling Alzheimer’s disease. He was 74. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

LSU will likely have a new starting offensive line for the Florida game, because of injuries. Orgeron says Will Clapp and Toby Weathersby could be out for awhile, which means Garrett Brumfield could start at guard. Running back Leonard Fournette is day-to-day with an ankle injury. And Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio, who missed the last two weeks with an injury, could play Saturday against the Tigers.

Ragin Cajuns Coach Mark Hudspeth says quarterback Jalen Nixon’s career is over after suffering a severe ankle injury in the double overtime loss to New Mexico State. Coach Hud says Anthony Jennings, who finished the game, is the team’s starting QB. Backup defensive lineman LaDarrius Kidd is also done for the season with a broken ankle.

Louisiana Tech’s defense looked much better in the Bulldogs 28-7 win over UTEP on Saturday. On Thursday, Tech hosts Western Kentucky in a Conference USA matchup. The Hilltoppers are averaging 322 yards per game through the air.

Grambling and Southern are tied for first place in the SWAC’s western division. Grambling moved to 3-0 in league play with a 36-16 win over Prairie View. Tigers Quarterback Devante Kincade was named the SWAC offensive player of the week as he threw for 207 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for 105 yards and two scores.

Longtime district attorney for the 4th Judicial District, Jerry Jones, announces he’s retiring effective November 1st. He said it is only due to health reasons and he doesn’t want to leave the job he loves. Jones has had several surgeries on his lower back since being in a car accident late last year. He’s served the 4th district in north Louisiana since 1991.

The ad alleges that Republican State Treasurer John Kennedy is a career politician who participated in budget gimmicks. UL-Lafayette political science professor Pearson Cross says the ad wasn’t as spiteful as it could have been.

Independent US Senate Candidate Troy Hebert has filed a lawsuit against Louisiana Public Broadcasting and the Council for a Better Louisiana for not including enough candidates in the October 18th televised debate. He says CABL and LPB should find a way to give each of the 24 candidates a chance to take the stage.

CABL President Barry Erwin says they are open to new ideas.

Louisiana has received a $67 million grant that will go towards opportunities for rural school districts to attract and retain effective teachers. Assistant Talent Superintendent Hannah Dietsch says the Louisiana Department of Education is one of 13 organizations to be awarded the federal Teacher Incentive Fund grant.

The defamation lawsuit was filed in Lafayette Parish and asks for damages and an injunction banning further publication of “Murder in the Bayou” by Ethan Brown. Brown has said he stands by what he says in the book.

LSU’s Kendell Beckwith got the Defensive Player of the week honor as he led the way in the game with 9 tackles.

The Special Teams Player of the Week goes to UL-Lafayette punter Steven Coutts who had a gross and net average of 48.3 yards on seven punts in the Ragin Cajuns’ 37-31 double-overtime loss to New Mexico State.
