A federal lawsuit filed on behalf of Louisiana landlords seeks to overturn the moratorium on rental evictions ordered by the CDC. Luke Wake an attorney with the Pacific Legal Foundation, filed the suit on behalf of a group of property owners in Monroe and the Apartment Association of Louisiana. Wake says the CDC has no such authority.
The current moratorium on evictions is set to expire December 31st but Wake says it’s possible it could be renewed. Wake says if the Federal Government wants to issue a moratorium on evictions then they need to enact proper policy.
Wake says the state legislature enacted laws giving landlord’s the right to evict tenants for nonpayment and this an issue of separation of powers.

As coronavirus cases spike in the state and we enter flu season, so far, the health department says we are not seeing as many cases of the flu. Region Three Medical Director Dr. Chip Riggins says even though influenza cases are not required to be reported to the state they are able to track trends of outbreaks.
Riggins says the Bayou State is currently below the national average for the flu, so it’s good news so far.
While each flu season varies annually as to when outbreaks peak, Riggins says one thing is consistent.
Riggins says last spring the state saw an abrupt end to flu season just as COVID mitigation measures were put into place.

Republican Senator Bill Cassidy supports President Donald Trump’s legal challenges in several states over the result of the November 3rd election but admits it will be difficult to get the courts to overturn the election. Cassidy says the President should not concede until he runs out of legal options
Cassidy says it’s important for the over 70-million people that voted for the President that he gets his day in court. But he says the legal obstacles are apparent and if it turns out the courts do not rule in his favor, he’ll concede
Some are concerned President Trump is creating a disadvantage for President-elect Joe Biden, who is preparing to be sworn in on January 20th. But Cassidy says the former Vice President is receiving intelligence briefings and the election legal battle will not interrupt the distribution of COVID vaccines once they are available
