About two-thousand soldiers with the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Louisiana National Guard are deploying this week for the Middle East. Their mission will last nearly a year. The National Guard has been active in the state’s response to COVID-19. A state judge has sentenced Holden Matthews to 25 years in prison for burning down three historically black churches in St. Landry Parish in 2019. Matthews has also been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning on how the case changed the community.

Funeral services for Mangham police officer Marshall Waters will be held Thursday and he’ll be laid to rest Saturday. Waters was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Richland Parish on October 17th. The alleged shooter, 27-year-old, Hermandus Semien, faces numerous charges.
