Hurricane Delta is a major hurricane, Category 3 storm, as it approaches southwest Louisiana this morning. Landfall is expected tonight in eastern Cameron Parish. It’s moving north at 12 miles per hour but will turn towards the northeast and pass near Alexandria into northeast Louisiana as a tropical storm on Saturday. National Weather Service Meteorologist Ben Schott says everyone in the state should pay attention to this storm…

The storm is still expected to pack a punch as it cuts across the state and into Mississippi. Avoyelles Parish GOHSEP director Joey Frank says it is potential flooding issues that have caught the attention of the locals.

Nine inches of rain fell north of Baton Rouge last night.

Hurricane Delta is the second Hurricane to hit Cleco’s service territory in six weeks. Cleco spokesperson Jennifer Cahill says they are ready to respond again.

Entergy says it has mobilized a team of about ten-thousand employees and contractors to respond to any impacts from Hurricane Delta.

Governor John Bel Edwards has announced the Phase Three COVID-19 mitigation measures, including the statewide mask mandate, will remain the same through November sixth. The announcement comes as there is an aggressive effort by Republican lawmakers to limit his authority over issuing emergency orders.
