The state’s legislative auditor debunks the claims of duplicate COVID-19 cases that have led some to believe the coronavirus outbreak data is being presented in a manner to be more alarming than it is.  Legislative Auditor Daryl Purpera says the parishes may be seeing data before it goes through the state’s processing.

Cut 3 (11)  “…on their dashboard.”

Suspicion of inflated numbers was increased with a Facebook post from Red River Parish’s homeland security office claiming that state numbers were higher because of duplicates.  Purpera says the investigation shows the numbers reported by the Louisiana Department of Health are not reflecting double-counted cases.

Cut 4 (12)_ “…next few days.”

LDH says there is a one to two percent margin of error with reporting, and Purpera says the department’s processes are producing the most accurate data.

Cut 5 (09)  “…job of that.”

Over the weekend the father of East Baton Parish Sheriff’s Deputy Nick Tullier, the deputy who was severely injured in July of 2016 during a police ambush, made a surprise video announcement about his son.

James Tullier had been living in Houston helping care for his son’s recovery and rehabilitation at an apartment adjacent to TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Cut 6 (10) “…to Baton Rouge.”

The Tullier family had been looking to move from the apartment to a house, but that house is now in Baton Rouge, not Texas.

The move was done in three stages, and Tullier says it was a coordinated effort by the East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish Sheriffs Offices. Tullier says the deputies have always been supportive.

Cut 7 (07) “…to those guys.”

Tullier says the apartment proved to be too small with all the rehab equipment and Nick’s current health allowed for the family to make the move.

Cut 8 (10) “…handle ourselves .”

The family has now asked that all cards and letters be sent to their new Baton Rouge mailing address that’s available on their Facebook page.

*UPDATE* Earlier reports that the Big Ten had voted to cancel their fall sports season have been debunked by a Big Ten official, saying no such vote has yet been held.

No news yet out of the Sun Belt on what fall plans might be, and Cajuns coach Billy Napier says as of now it’s business as usual.

Cut 9 (09) “…in place.”

SEC officials are currently in a meeting today, but Commissioner Greg Sankey indicated they won’t be making any big decisions today.

Some prominent college players are backing a return to fall football, while others have taken the option to opt-out and not lose their scholarship. Napier says he’s seeing some real player agency in action.

Cut 10 (08) “…situation.”

The President is publicly calling for college conferences to push ahead with their seasons. Napier says they’re just going to keep heir head down and keep practicing until told otherwise.

Cut 11 (10) “…of us.”

A 24-year-old Lincoln Parish man is dead after being shot at a party of three to four hundred people.

Lincoln Parish Sheriff Sgt. Matthew Henderson says deputies were responding to break up the event when they heard a single gunshot and saw a man approaching them.

Cut 12 (10) “…deputies”

The victim, Peter Guy, was transported to Northern Louisiana Medical Center where he later died.

Henderson says the party Mr. Guy attended had made two previous stops in the parish before meeting at the final location along Highway 146.

Cut 13 (11) “…parish”

Local reports say there were at least 100 cars lining the road leading up to the party.

Henderson says it’s highly likely some useful information that could lead to an arrest was captured on some of the party-goers phones.

Cut 14 (09) “…come forward.”
