Republican Senator David Vitter is leading all other candidates in cash on hand for this year’s governor’s race. Wednesday was the deadline for statewide elected officials to file annual campaign finance reports for 2014. Vitter has reported $3.5 million in the bank for his campaign. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says this is not surprising…:

Fellow Republican candidates Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne reported $1.55 million, and Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle has $1.43 million. Democratic State Representative John Bel Edwards reported $745,000.

The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s office has made an arrest in the case of 20-year-old a Labadieville man who was found dead in his yard. They say 61-year-old William Thompson confessed to detectives he stabbed Daquan Rainey because the victim took his cigarettes. Thompson is charged with mansalguther and is being held without bond.

The Mandeville Police Department says a man is charged with his 8th DWI after he allegedly drove a car that didn’t belong to him drunk into another vehicle then fled the scene. Lt. Gerald Sticker says 48-year-old James Hittson took his friend’s 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche from an apartment where they were hanging out without her permission…:

He says Hittson then threatened the owner of the vehicle who then called the cops. The suspect was booked with DWI – 8, hit and run, simple assault and driving under suspension.

In response to the recent increase in fraudulent tax returns filed across the country, the Louisiana Department of Revenue announced today that they are taking extra precautions to verify the filings and refunds of taxpayers. They extending the date to begin issuing refunds by one week, until the week of March 2.
