Legendary New Orleans music producer Dave Bartholomew, the man who found Fats Domino, passed away yesterday at 100 years old.

Louisiana Music Hall of Fame Executive Director Mike Shepard says Bartholomew helped refine New Orleans Big Beat and R&B into the world famous rock and roll of the 50s.

Cut 9 (12) “…fats.”

Bartholomew co-wrote most of Fats’ hits, and was the famous pianists’ band leader as he toured the world.

Shepard says Bartholomew worked with, and was loved by all the greats, including Irma Thomas, Benny Spellman, Dr. John, and more. While he was known as a friendly guy, he didn’t roll over when artists tried to rip him off…

Cut 10 (11) “…ding-a-ling.”

Bartholomew/Domino collaborations sold over 60 million copies in the 50s.

Shepard says Bartholomew was the last of the “Holy Trinity” that put New Orleans music on the international music map along with Fats, and J&M studio owner and recording engineer icon Cosimo Matasa.

Cut 11 (11) “this track”

Bartholomew is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

El Dorado Resorts, the parent company of a string of Louisiana casinos including the Belle of Baton Rouge, has purchased Caeser’s Entertainment, the parent company of several other casinos including Harrah’s in New Orleans, for 17.3 billion dollars. Casino Association of Louisiana executive director Wade Duty says for players it’s business as usual.

Cut 12 (09)   “…certainly nationally.”

The deal is expected to close in mid-2020, and Duty says he does not foresee it having an impact on the recently renewed deal that keeps Harrah’s in New Orleans gaming license until 2054.

Cut 13 (12) “…of this merger.”

Wade says the merger will create the opportunity for the company to reinvest in Louisiana, but between smoking bans and recent legislation that failed to add sports wagering to modernize the gaming industry in the state, it may not make much sense for the company.

Cut 14 (10) “…by case basis.”
