An agreement between the state and the federal government has been reached on a plan to borrow 650-million dollars for major roadway projects. DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson says this particular agreement with the Federal Highway Administration is the first of its kind in Louisiana….

Cut 4 (13) “…with this”

The funding will go towards widening Interstate 10 in Baton Rouge, a new interchange on I-10 in Kenner at Loyola Drive and a new road from I-20 directly into Barksdale Aire Force Base in Bossier City.  Wilson says the state bond commission will have to pick an underwriter at its next meeting later this month…

Cut 5 (09) “…for work”

The state will have to pay back the loan also known as GARVEE bonds over the next 12 years. Wilson says this financing agreement allows Louisiana to build these projects, which have been discussed for decades, but were never constructed because of a lack of resources

The CDC says there were nearly 2.3 million cases of STDs in America last year, an all-time record for the nation. Louisiana routinely ranks in the top five for highest STD rates. New Orleans and Baton Rouge often feature in yearly top tens for cities with the highest STD rates, but Department of Health Region One Medical Director Dr. Joseph Kanter says they aren’t the only areas with real problems.

Cut 7 (12) “…the state”

And it’s not just STD rates that are raising eyebrows. New, antibiotic resistant STDs are becoming more and more prevalent, leaving doctors with few options for addressing what were once easily treatable diseases. Kanter says the public needs to rethink how it approaches antibiotic use.

Cut 8 (07)  “…need them.”

There’s a number of ways to fight the spread of STDs, from yearly screenings, to safe sex, but Kanter says to really get to the heart of the problem, we’ll need to change the way we talk about the diseases.

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Gordon is expected to make landfall along the Mississippi Gulf Coast later tonight or early tomorrow morning as a category one hurricane. State Climatologist Barry Keim says the cone of uncertainty still includes the northshore of Lake Ponchartrain.

Cut 10 (08)   “…Louisiana“

Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Southeast Louisiana Coast and inland areas.

Gordon has seen rapid development over the last few days, despite many early projections showing the system had only a ten percent chance of escalating into a tropical storm as recently as Friday. Keim says its picking up steam fast.

Cut 11 (07) “…one hurricane”

And everyone knows it doesn’t take much to flood many parts of South East Louisiana, so Keim says keep an eye on your surroundings because the water is on its way.

Cut 12 (09) “…heavier rain”

The center of the storm is expected to track over north Louisiana on Wednesday.

Governor John Bel Edwards has declared a state of emergency in advance of Tropical Storm Gordon. Edwards 200 National Guard troops will be deployed today….

Cut 13 (11) “…four helicopters”

Edwards says flooding is a big concern…

Cut 14 (10) “…three to five feet”

The governor says Gordon is a real threat to Louisiana, even though Alabama and Mississippi coast lines are under a hurricane warning. He says the forecast track of Gordon can easily shift west, putting more of Louisiana under the cone of uncertainty….

Many wondered if LSU had a 1,000 yard rusher on its roster, well Nick Brossette looked like that guy in the Tigers 33-17 win over the Miami Hurricanes. Brossette rushed for a career-high 125 yards and scored his first two touchdowns in college. The senior from Baton Rouge was behind Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice during his first three seasons at LSU and knew he would get his shot

Cut 16 (14) “. season for him”

In his first start at quarterback, Joe Burrow did not turn the ball over and managed the offense well, throwing for 140 yards on 11 completions. The Ohio State transfer on his first game in purple and gold…

Cut 17 (12)  “better at”

LSU entered Sunday’s game ranked 25th and they’ll likely move up the rankings when the new polls are released later today. Burrow says projections of a 6-6 or five win season fueled the team during fall camp

Cut 18 (13) “…to it tonight”
