Cut 2 (31) “I’m Kevin Barnhart”
Pence is cohosting the show with Southeast Louisiana Congressman Steve Scalise who reportedly is eying a run at Speaker of the House, a position that may not be available to him if Republicans tank the midterms. Hogan says hosting a fundraiser for other party members is a great way for the Jefferson Parish Republican to build good will for future attempts to climb the political ladder.
Pence’s visit comes at a particularly difficult moment for the administration that’s been rocked by criminal scandals involving former Campaign Manager Paul Manfort who was convicted on multiple counts, and former Trump confidant and attorney Michael Cohen who pled guilty, and implicated the President. Hogan says this is a chance for Pence to start building relations, in case he gets an unexpected promotion.

Louisiana is one of only five states without a statewide rideshare policy that would allow companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in any city. Rideshare legislation crashed and burned in the Senate after parliamentary maneuvers by Senate President John Alario. The Advocate reports Alario has a close friend, former legislator Francis Heitmeier, in the cab industry. UL Lafayette Poli Sci Professor Pearson Cross.
The report raised questions about the ethical problems inherent in having a legislator block a bill that had widespread support in both chambers, and had flown through the House with little opposition. That’s led to some calls for a new suite of ethics legislation, but Cross says those kinds of sweetheart deals to local businesses are common, and if you think this legislature would pass it, think again.
Cross says in cases where legislators may have acted unethically, but did not break the law, there’s only one option left….

Two Springhill men are under arrest for possession of a substantial amount of child pornography. 44-year-old Bo Skywalker Roberts is facing two counts of child porn possession, and 54-year-old Joe Palmer is looking at 200 counts of possession, and 40 counts of distribution. State Police Trooper Glenn Younger says the men were arrested in two separate investigations.
The investigation involved members of Homeland Security, SVU, Children and Family Services, Bossier and Claiborne Sheriffs, and Springhill Police. Younger says cooperative efforts like these often lead to major arrests and the dismantling of child pornography distribution networks.
