No LSU Tigers were selected in the first round of the NFL draft, but three of them went in the second round, including running back Derius Guice, who didn’t hear his name called until late in the second round. The Washington Redskins took Guice with the 59th overall pick. One report says Guice fell in the draft because of immaturity and showing up late to visits with teams.

Cornerback Donte Jackson was the first Tiger taken as he went to the Carolina Panthers, who had the 55th pick. And Alexandria native and wide receiver DJ Chark is heading to Jacksonville as the Jaguars picked up him with the 61st pick.

LSU’s Arden Key, who at one time was considered a future first round pick, went in the third round to the Oakland Raiders.

Ragin Cajuns safety Tracy Walker went in the third round to the Lions.

The Saints used their third round selection to take Central Florida wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith, who caught 13 touchdown passes in 2017.

The Pelicans have a lot of confidence heading into tonight’s Game 1 of the Western Conference semi-final series versus the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors. New Orleans went 1-3 against Golden State in the regular season, but that one win came on April 7th. Stephen Curry didn’t play in that game and he’s close to returning from that knee injury. He’s listed as questionable tonight. Tip time 9:30.

The LSU baseball team returned to the win column in the SEC last night by beating Ole Miss 5-2. After getting rouged up last week, Ma’Khail Hilliard threw seven strong innings, allowing one run and striking out six. Hunter Feduccia led the offense with three runs driven in, including a two-run double in the 6th inning.

Elsewhere, Louisiana Tech gave up four runs in the third inning and lost to Western Kentucky 6-1. UL Lafayette had a five to nothing lead, but lost to Georgia State 6-5 in the 12 innings. The Panthers scored the winning run on a squeeze bunt.

McNeese State fell behind 3-0 and lost to Sam Houston four to three. Taylor Schwaner drove in seven runs and Southeastern Louisiana smacked Stephen F Austin 11-2.
