A Senate Judiciary Committee rejected a proposal to end so-called sanctuary city policies in Louisiana. New Orleans Police Chief Michael Harrison spoke out against the bill saying it’s all about building trust. He says if the measure passed, it would hurt their ability to maintain public safety.

The Centers for Disease Control finds deaths due to Alzheimer’s disease have increased 55-percent over the last 15 years. Dr. Patrick Gahan with LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center says a reason for the increase could be that doctors are more aware of the disease.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the sky diving instructor who died after losing consciousness during a jump in Slidell on Sunday. Benjamin Crowell of Theodore, Alabama, was unconscious during the jump and did not pull the main parachute, triggering the reserve parachute which could have not opened properly. The 53-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and the trainee was taken to a hospital. The coroner says it’s possible Crowell was dead before he hit the ground.

A 23-year-old Thibodeaux woman has been arrested for allegedly forcing her way into an apartment and trying to use a hacksaw blade on her ex-girlfriend. David Melancon with the Thibodeaux Police Department says Lechelsea Jenkins punched a wall, broke a TV and chased the victim outside and tried to slash her tires to prevent her to leaving.
