A University of New Orleans polls finds almost half of Louisiana residents surveyed give Governor John Bel Edwards a positive review of his performance in office. UNO Pollster Ed Chervenak says a poll in February found Edwards had an approval rating of 43-percent. He says in this latest survey, women were more approving of the governor than men.

With the new school year right around the corner, it’s time for kids to get back into their school routine. LSU Health New Orleans Clinical Pediatrics professor Dr. Cory Hebert says to limit the amount of caffeine your child has, especially before bed to make sure they’re getting enough sleep. He says the amount of sleep a child needs depends on their age.

A Luling man has been charged with three counts of attempted first degree murder after firing more than 40 shots into his estranged wife’s parent’s home. St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne says 30-year-old William Canada shot his father-in-law in the chest but the bullet didn’t penetrate his chest cavity because it first went through a door and sofa. He says they’re searching Canada’s residence because they found a makeshift Molotov cocktail and an accelerant at the scene.

Champagne says after Canada and his wife separated, he went into a depression.

The US Coast Guard and other agencies are responding to an oil spill at the mouth of the Mississippi River. It’s estimated that the 42-hundred gallons of oil came from a well owned by Texas Petroleum Investment Company. Multiple oil spill response organizations have been contracted by the company to help clean up. Aerial assessments are now being conducted and the investigation is on-going as to how the spill happened.
