The U-S Senate Banking Committee held a hearing this morning on reforming the National Flood Insurance Program, which has a caused a lot of financial pain for Louisiana homeowners, who have seen flood insurance premiums skyrocket. President of Greater New Orleans Inc., Michael Hecht says the legislation’s primary focus should be making insurance affordable for everyone.

And the third priority Hecht told lawmakers was funding for mitigation to reduce flood risks.

LSU Climatologist Barry Keim says rain chances for the Bayou State continues into the weekend. He says parishes along the coast could see locally heavy rainfall…

He says rainfall totals for the next 24 to 48 hours range from one to five inches.
