The Louisiana National Guard museum at Jackson Barracks in New Orleans has opened a special exhibit to commemorate efforts to rescue thousands of stranded residents in the days after Hurricane Katrina. On one of those missions 10 years ago, the pilots hovered to a rootop. National Guard museum director Captain Heather Englehart says the exhibit features that Huey:

She says the exhibit will remain up for 1 year but they hope to eventually keep a permanent display on Katrina response in the museum.

Many in the public are asking for ways they can help the family of Trooper Steven Vincent who was murdered in the line of duty last weekend. State Police say donations can be made at any Capitol One bank nationwide and all funds will go directly to Vincent’s wife Katherine for the widow and the couple’s nine year old son. The fallen trooper’s funeral will take place Saturday at noon at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Lake Charles.

State Police say a high-speed chase that began in Carencro ended in Duson with one trooper injured and four State Police units damaged. Master Trooper Brooks David says Carencro Police asked for assistance with this pursuit around 7:30 this morning. David says the pursuit really became dangerous when the vehicle entered Interstate 10…:

He says troopers used what’s called “legal intervention” and rammed his car to make sure he couldn’t get back on the interstate after exiting.

You woke up to temperatures in the 60s this morning, but Tim Humphrey, with the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, says these cooler temps with low humidity will only last a couple of days…:
